R

esident of the City of God since 1975, Anahyde dos Santos Muniz, the Tuca

of CDD is our diamond. She was born in Santa Teresa, on March 12, in the neighborhood of Laranjeiras, is 83 years old, has a lot of creativity and is always making art. Known in the neighborhood of Rio Comprido as the Muniz, she was invited by MARIA PUPPIM BUZANOVSKY

her neighbors after a soccer match in the hills of Escondidinho, to compose a samba song for the local block. She discovered her artistic streak since childhood: her mother was a clothes-washer in the house of singer Dick Farney , an artist who was famous at the time. Following is an account by Tuca:

HONORING 50 YEARS OF CDD, ROSALINA BRITO EXPOSES MEMORIES FROM THE COMMUNITY Because of rising real estate costs and flooding, some slums were removed or transferred to various locations. The City of God received newcomers from several slums in the South Zone. The mode for transporting people and their belongings was the garbage truck.

The belongings of the new inhabitants were dumped onto the street , which contributed to the disappearance of clothes and appliances.

Rivers and canals, even with garbage, were still used for bathing.

The bathrooms were public, numbered, and provided for the collective use by inhabitants of that neighborhood.

Parks were set up informally for the enjoyment of the children.
