INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM ASB offers a rigorous university preparatory program, taught in English, that prepares students for admission to top universities throughout the world. Graduates earn a U.S. high school diploma and, in grades 11-12, can additionally pursue the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. Students also take some of their academic coursework in Spanish and Catalan. Many students will graduate having achieved a level of language appropriate for university instruction in all three languages.

Founded in 1962, ASB is an international, independent, non-profit, co-educational, university preparatory day school which serves the international and Spanish communities in Barcelona. ASB is accredited by the International Baccalaureate Organization, the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and is authorized by the Spanish and Catalan Ministries of Education.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) is a demanding, two-year course of study leading to external examinations. At ASB, the IBDP is an open enrollment program. In 2017, 50 ASB graduates earned the full IB Diploma, with an average score of 35 points.

ASB has a pleasant, open-air purpose built facility resting on 15,000 square meters of land. The campus includes: A Main building with 5,213 square meters.

Early Childhood Center and Elementary building of 2,518 square meters.

Library/media center with more than 17,595 print and media resources.

A large cafeteria with our own kitchen and views of the Mediterranean Sea. Two basketball/volleyball courts, a large outdoor lighted artificial grass field, a gymnasium, and multiple outdoor play areas.

SPANISH BACHILLERATO DIPLOMA PROGRAM Aside from the IB Diploma, ASB students can also pursue the Spanish Bachillerato in 11th and 12th grades. Students who study the Spanish Bachillerato choose either the humanities or science concentration. Students who wish to enroll in Spanish universities take the Selectividad exam in early June.

SERVICE LEARNING PROGRAMS Our High School prides itself not only on our high academic achievement, but also on the ability of our students to make a positive impact on our community through ongoing engagement. Our service learning programs offer opportunities for experiential learning, often cross age, focusing on co-curricular community-based activities. High school students develop lifelong interpersonal skills related to leadership, mentoring, respect, service and collaboration. Examples include: Sharing to Learn: An annual partnership with local primary schools where ASB students collaborate as English language assistants throughout the year.

Connecting with Elders: Students bring weekly cheer and mental stimulation to the elderly in our community through games, stories and conversation.

Bridging through Art: Students lead creative workshops at a center for adults with Down Syndrome.

Social Entrepreneurship Programs: Students develop business plans and create their own start-up companies that create solutions to social, cultural or environmental issues.

Professional Language Collaboration: Students partner with adult employees in local hospitals, universities and businesses to learn about the profession as a career path while helping to strengthen the English skills of employees.

RefugArt: Students raise awareness and support for refugees around the world through art production and exhibitions. Annual events have collaborated with the UNHCR and other international aid organizations.
