Waste is killing us and is aggressively deteriorating the environment; if we don't limit the amount of waste we throw away now, the world will tear apart sooner than expected. Nowadays, not many people know about the benefits of living an environmentally friendly lifestyle because these would require people to adopt a new way of living. Most of us live inside a commodity bubble of not wanting to learn about where our waste goes too and about the damage it creates; because of this, one is killing themselves and all living things in the environment. My project will teach about the harmful effects of our waste, what materials we should reduce, and explain how one can live an eco-friendly life by composting, reusing, and recycling. The Sunset Park Material Recovery Facility will become a center where one would go visit and stay for (a certain amount of time) and learn about the benefits of limiting our waste.

Thesis statement: It is extremely important to reduce a big majority of the waste we consume through recycling, composting, and reusing.

CAPS THE STORY: CAPS is a coworking space that welcomes women and men aged 18 and up. It is a members-only space with amenities targeted to people in the artistic field. What makes this space special is the furniture that can be adjusted and used by people who have dwarfism. The average height of an adult with dwarfism is 4 feet, which made me make most of the furniture in CAPS low. CAPS also aims to join strangers and connect them all with their art and design passion. This inviting working space is a fun place to go to relax, create art and express yourself. CAPS's location being where the Altman building is in NY lends to a young and mature clientele since the building is surrounded by museums, art stores, and universities.

INNOVA-HEALTH The building located on 326 Delancey street on the lower east side has been vacant for around 40 years: it dates back to 1901. The Baruch bathhouse was one of the first prominent buildings in Manhattan where it brought in lots of individuals related to the treatment of their bodies. Simon Baruch wanted to expand on his study in hydrotherapy. This means that this bathhouse was a place where patients were treated with therapeutic spas, bathing, and other methods of healing the body with clean water. From research, it was discovered that the site has some serious structural damage problems. For instance, corroded beams and steel columns, mold, trees growing inside and sticking through the roof, and rats and flooding in the basement. The inspection determined that “the structural condition of the bathhouse building has deteriorated to an extent that it is not practical or economically feasible to undertake the renovation. The inspiration for this project was a mix between technology and nature which received its name “Innova-Health”. Innova-Health is a wellness center that provides a unique and personal experience. The inspiration was drawn from nature and topography, as well as the movement of waves that create the shape and design of the interior walls. Additionally, the pattern of waves is constantly repeated as a symbol of purity and relaxation. Innova-Health’s purpose is to provide a memorable experience when you first step into the Innova container. This wellness center provides many services including therapeutic spas, massages, skin treatment, psychotherapy and in the lobby we have a café and a restaurant. Each guest will be presented with a “Q bracelet,” a bracelet that gathers informative data about one’s mood. Moreover, each individual will gain the experience of being a part of an advanced technological adventure.

The concept of nature and waves has been consolidated because we believe that our minds must be relaxed. With the help of our professionally trained staff, we want the guests to learn the importance of health. Moreover, the moving sensation while walking from room to room on the third floor where the walls imitate the movement of waves. The showers on the third floor replicate the Innova containers in the entrance as the design stays consistent throughout the building.

There will be a receptionist on every floor that will guide each person to their appointments. For example, the information collected from the Q bracelet will identify the person’s needs, such as the meditating accommodation; a place where you can put your mind to ease and express emotions with a meditator expert. We designed this safe space for healing to occur, mentally, physically, and emotionally. The choice of how to move forward with one’s journey is a personal decision, honored without judgment, and most importantly to provide a healthy and memorable experience at Inova-Health.

CORAL REEF Coral Reef are two installations of two wall coverings that I weaved with wire and thread to assimilate a coral reef.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST This lamp was inspired by the puzzling and messed up "love story" of the movie and book of Beauty and the Beast fairytale.
