IN THE BHUTANESE BELIEF THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT ROLE OF ITS CULTURE, TRADITION AND RELIGION. PARO IS CURRENTLY IN NEED OF A SPACE WHICH WILL BE A PROLOGUE FOR THE TOURISTS TOWARDS THE BELIEFS OF THE DRUKPA’S (LOCAL PEOPLE) OF BHUTAN.
THE DESIGN IS PROPOSED CONSIDERING FOLLOWING POINTS:
• USE OF NATURAL FEATURES OF SITE,
• MINIMAL DISTURBANCE TO NATURE OF THE PLACE,
• CONSIDERING CULTURE AND BELIEVES OF BHUTANESE PEOPLE,
• MINIMIZING PEDISTERIAN EFFORTS.
• THE VOLUMES ARE ARRANGED WITH THE INSPIRATION OD MUGHAL GARDENS.
• THE WATER CANAL IS CREATED AS A DESIGN ELEMENT TO TAKE AWAY THE GROUND WATER FROM THE HILL..
• THE VOLUMES ARE PLACES SUCH AS TO MINIMIZE RETAINING WALLS AND CONFINE TO HUMAN SCALE.
• THE BRIDGES OVER CANALS CREATE AN ENTHUSIASM IN THE PEDISTERIAN AND ALSO PAUSEPOINTS FOR THEM.
• THE DESIGN IS PROPOSED SUCH THAT THE USER WOULD NOT HAVE TO CLIME HIGH UP; INSTEAD WALK DOWN WITH THE FLOW OF BUILDINGS AND PAUSE POINTS WITH MINIMAL EFFORTS.

• ARCHITECTURE OF BHUTAN MAKES BHUTANESE CULTURE STAND APART. IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE COUNTRY’S GEOGRAPHY AND CLIMATE, THE ARCHITECTURE OF BHUTAN IS BEING DEVELOPED.
SOME PROMINENT FEATURES OF BHUTANESE CULTURE ARE 8 SIGNS OF GOOD WHICH INCLUDE:
BHUTANESE PEOPLE TIE COLOURED FLAGS AT THE HILL TOPS AND WATER BODIES- THEY BELIEVE WHEN WINDS PASS THROUGH THESE FLAGS THE WIND GETS PURIFIED. THE DESIGN IS PROPOSED KEEPING THESE BELIEVES IN MIND. THE 8 SIGNS OF GOOD ARE INCLUDED AS DESIGN ELEMENTS. THE SLOPE OF THE SITE AND THE DRAIN WATER IS TREATED AS A DESIGN ELEMENT.

LOCATION OF THE STUDY AREA: SHIVAJINAGAR, PUNE AREA: 1.71 SQ. KM GOVERNMENT TYPE: PUNE MUNICIPAL CORPORATION
• THE OPENING YEAR OF 20TH CENTURY WERE MISERABLE AND FULL OF CHALLENGES FOR THE CITY BECAUSE OF PLAGUE EPIDEMIC BETWEEN 1880 AND 1920 AS A RESULT OF EPIDEMIC AND SEVERE FAMINE OF 1897 THERE WAS AN ACTUAL INCREASE IN THE POPULATION OF SUBURBS.
• THIS WAS DUE TO THE FACT THAT PEOPLE MOVED AWAY FROM THE CITY TO THE SURROUNDING PARTS IN ORDER TO ESCAPE FROM THE EPIDEMIC ESPECIALLY TOWARDS SHIVAJINAGAR AND DECCAN GYMKHANA.
• PUNE GREW FROM AN AREA OF 7.74SQ.KM IN 1857 TO 243.96SQ.KM IN 2001 THAT IS IT HAS INCREASED BY 236.82SQ.KM IN LAST 144 YEARS.
• THE DEVELOPMENT ON THE LEFT BANK OF RIVER MUTHA WHICH WAS PREVIOUSLY NEGLECTED, STARTED WITH THE BUILDING OF NUMBER OF PUBLIC INSTITUTION SUCH AS METEOROLOGICAL STATION, CIVIL COURT, PUNE STATION OF ALL INDIA RADIO, THE COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING STUDY AREA AND LANDMARKS

• BUILDINGS ON THE NOTHERN AND EASTERN SIDES SIVE LARGER FOOTPRINTS AND CAN BE FORMULATED AS UNCORSED AND UNEVEN URBAN TEXTURE. WHEREAS BUILDINGS ON THE WESTERN AND SOUTHERN SIDES HAVE COMPARITIVELY EVEN URBAN TEXTURE.
LAND USE PLAN
• MAJORITY OF THE STUDY AREA IS UNDER INSTITUTIONAL LAND USE. THUS, HAVE FORMAL ACTIVITIES TAKING PALCE IN THE AREA.
GREEN AND BLUE NETWORK PLAN
GREEN NETWORK:
• THE STUDY AREA INCLUDES THE AREA OF AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE - FARM LANDS AROUND SHIMLA OFFICE AND OTHER SUCH INSTITUTIONAL BUILDINGS- GREEN SPACES AROUND
•TREES DO DOMINATE THE IMAGE OF THE PLACE. BLUE NETWORK:
• THE AREA INCLUDES THE LAKE OF MODEL COLONY OVER 100 YEARS OLD (LAKAKI LAKE)
• UNDERGROUND NALLAH STARTING FROM PASHAN TEKDI AND FLOWS FROM WEST TO NORTH EAST OF THE AREA TOWARDS RIVER MULA.
ROAD NETWORK
• TRAFFIC CONJESTION IS SEEN TO BE INCREASED IN THE POINTS WHERE FLYOVER BRIDGE COMMENCES AND TERMINATES DUE TO THE ACTION OF MERGING AT THE POINTS AND FORMATION OF BOTTLE NECKS AT THE POINTS.
• THE AREAS NEAR SIGNALS ARE MOSTLY CONJESTED i.e. HIGH DENSITY. MEDIUM DENSITY IS SEEN AROUND T-JUNCTIONS AND LOW DENSITY FREEFLOWING TRAFFIC IS SEEN IN THE REST OF THE AREAS.
TOD ZONE PLAN
• THE STUDY AREA COMES UNDER TOD ZONES i.e. 500 MTS. AROUND METRO STATIONS.
• TOD ZONE HAVE MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE FSI OF 4.
• ALSO PROMOTION OF MAXIMUM PEDISTERIAN FRIENDLY AREAS AND MIXED USE DEVELOPMENT IN THE ZONE.
PROBLEMS IDENTIFIED
• SINCE MOST OF THE BUILDINGS IN THE STUDY AREA HAVE INSTITUTIONS AND GOVERNMENT OFFICES, THESE AREAS HAVE HUGE COMPOUNDED BOUNDARIES WHICH BREAK THE CONNECTION WITH THE PUBLIC THROUGHOUT THE ROAD
• THE ROADS IN THE AREA ARE VEHICULAR ORIENTED AND PEDISTERIANS HAVE LEAST IMPORTANCE.
• SOME BUILDINGS IN THE AREA ARE IN DEPLITED CONDITIONS.

• A BUILDING IS A MIXED USE BUILDING.
• BEING IN TOD ZONE, THE BUILDING IS NON COMPOUNDED PROMOTING THE PEDISTRIANS TO ENTER THE SITE.
• THE PLACING OF 'HAAT' (MARKET) IS ON THE GROUND FLOOR THAT ENABLES PEOPLE TO ENTER THE SITE AND ESTABLISH THE RELATION WITH THE SPACE.
• THE PEDISTRIAN SHORTCUTS ARE CREATED THROUGH THE SITE.
• BANKS, LIC OFFICE AND IT OFFICES WITH SEPARATE CORE, MAINTAINING APPROPRIATE SECURITY.
• THE CURTAIN WALL IS DESIGNED SUCH THAT IT MAKES THE BUILDING ALMOST SELF SUFFICIENT FOR ITS ENERGY CONSUMPTION MAKING IT SUSTAINABLE DESIGN.

• THE FAÇADE IS DESIGN SUCH THAT THE UPPER PART OF EACH FLOOR (FALSE CEILING ZONE) IS TILTED AT AN ANGLE AND HAVE SOLAR PANELS ON THEM ON THE SOUTH AND WESTERN PARTS OF THE BUILDING SUCH THAT IT RECEIVES MAXIMUM RADIATION AND MAXIMUM ENERGY IS GENERATED THROUGH SOLAR PANELS.
• THE REMAINING PORTION OF THE CURTAIN WALL IS DIVIDED INTO TWO PARTS WHERE MIDDLE PORTION ACTS AS A VIEWING GLASS THAT IS INCLINED SUCH THAT IT RECEIVES NATURAL LIGHT WITHOUT GLARE.

• THE GROUND FLOOR ARE GIVEN CUTOUTS THAT WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM OF LIGHT AND VENTILATION FOR UNDERGROUND VEHICULAR WAYS.
• THE GROUND FLOOR WOULD PROMOTE PEDISTRIAN ACCESS AND WOULD INCLUDE ACTIVITIES SUCH AS JUICE CENTRES AND EATRIES IN A TEMPORARY SHADE, NEWSPAPER SAILOR, PAUSE POINTS, OUTDOOR GYM, AMPHITHEATRES ETC. SERVICE LANE IS BEING PROVIDED ON BOTH THE SIDES ONLY FOR THE VEHICLES INTENDING TO ACCESS THE BUILDINGS ON THE SIDES OF THE ROAD. THE ROAD WOULD FOLLOW THE CONCEPT OF WOONERF STREET (PEDISTRIANS AT PRIORITY).

• A VOLUMETRIC IS DESIGNED SUCH THAT VARIOUS VOIDS ARE CREATED IN THE BUIDINGS AND DOUBLE AND TRIPPLE HEIGHTS ARE CREATED SERVING AS GATHERING SPACES AND GREEN ROOFS AS WELL AS REFUGE AREAS ARE BEING SERVED AT REQUIRED LOCATIONS.
• BUILDINGS ARE TILTED AT AN ANGLE OF 18 DEGREES SUCH THAT IT MINIMIZES SOLAR HEAT GAIN.
• TRANSITION SPACES AND GREEN AREAS ARE PLACED AT CENTRAL SPACE AND BUILDINGS ARE GIVEN APPROPRIATE HEIGHTS AND VOIDS SUCH THAT VISUAL CONNECTIVITY IS NOT OBSTRUCTED.

NEW INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IS PROPOSED NEAR SASWAD TO SERVE THE CITY OF PUNE. IT IS ONE OF THE URBAN CENTRES IN PMRDA AND IS LOCATED 37 KM FROM PUNE. AN AIRPORT AUTHORITY INDIA UNDER PMRDA AIMS TO DESIGN A RESIDENTIAL COMMUNITY SPACE FOE THEIR OFFICIALS AND WORKING STAFF. THE SITE IS OWNED AND FACILITATED BY THE AUTHORITY AND THE HOUSING COMPLEX WILL BE DEVELOPED BY AIRPORT AUTHORITY OF INDIA. THIS PROPOSAL AIMS AT PROBING THE VARIOUS PROBLEMS OF HIGH RISE LIVING AND MANIFESTING THEM IN PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS, KEEPING HUMAN INTERACTIONS AND OPEN SPACES AT PRIORITY

• BANK PLAYS AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF THE COUNTRY. WITHOUT A SOUND AND EFFECTIVE BANKING SYSTEM, NO COUNTRY CAN HAVE A HEALTHY ECONOMY.
• MANY INTERNATIONAL BANKS HAVE THEIR HEAD QUARTERS IN INDIA.

• THERE ARE TWO BUILDING TOWERS; ONE WITH BANK BRANCH AND HEADQUARTERS AND OTHER WITH RESTAURANT, BANQUATES AND CAF’E AREA BRIDGING BOTH THESE BUILDINGS.
• THE PROJECT FOCUSES ON THE DESIGNING A HEADQUARTERS OF A BANK AT THE UPCOMING AREA OF KHARADI, PUNE WITH A PUBLIC INTERFACE FOR THE LOCAL POPULATION AND FEW EXCLUSIVE FUNCTIONS TO CATER TO THE NEED OF THE NEIGHBOURHOOD.
MAHESHWAR HAAT, MADHYA PRADESH
MAHESHWAR HAAT IS PROPOSED TO SUPPORT THE LOCAL ARTS AND CULTURE SHOWCASING THE SOCIO ECONOMIC ,CULTURAL ASPECTS; AIMING TO ENCOURAGE LOCAL ARTISANS INCREASE THE ECONOMIC STATUS AND EMPLOYMENT INCREASE TRADE AND TOURISM.
THE TEMPORARY AS WELL AS PERMANENT SHOPS ARE PROPOSED TO SUPPORT THE LOCAL ART AND THEREBY INCREASING TOURISM.
THE DESIGN IS PROPOSED MAINTAINING THE CULTURAL ESSENCE OF THE PLACE. ARCHITECTURE GAINS ITS IMPORTANCE AND INSPIRATION FROM CULTURE IN MANY ASPECTS AND HENCE ARCHITECTURE CAN REFLECT THE LIFESTYLE AND THROUGH DEVELOPMENT OF THE NATIVES.
IN THE TOWN LIKE MAHESHWAR WHICH EQUALLY COMBINES THE ESSENCE OF BOTH HERITAGE AND PILGRIMAGE, THE DOMINANCE IN THE FIELD OF ART REMAINS WITH THE HISTORY AND HERITAGE OF THE PLACE.
