my personal space lockdown 2020 home project (renovation)

Client - Bhimbhai Odedra (my father) The project began with the demolition of the house. Extension work commenced just before the nation-wide lockdown. The client wanted a thorough makeover of all of the bathrooms and kitchen with one additional bathroom. Some small requirements were like removing partition walls, extending rooms, new paint scheme and polishing. I was an integral part of the designing team along with Ar. Aakash Vithalani who made the final decisions and management. I independently designed as well as executed the remodeling of my own room which is located on the first floor. The design had to be done in a way that is less time consuming, simple and keeping in mind the limited availability of materials in the market. The base ideology for my room mainly had a few prerequisites such as a wardrobe, garden view face bed and most importantly a workstation with the flexibility of moving the table towards the garden view and a bookshelf cum open storage orthogonally to the table to have a sense of enclosure.

MATERIAL PALETTE Warmth of wood and shades of blue and yellow making it lively.

Sem - 5 Project name - Biopop Clients - paints Square meters - 250sqm Biopop is a brand name for the paint of all kinds. It has different uses ranging from painting a wall to artistic purposes. The pigments and dyes are made using natural resources like grass, berries, soil, turmeric and more. Not only it reduces the amount of VOCs in nature but also does not produce chemical waste during its production process compared to contemporary chemical-based paints, which are hazardous to nature. The project commenced with designing a display unit by integrating the brand’s values into the concept and

THE PERCH SEM - 4 PROJECT NAME - URBANLOFT CLIENTS - HORTICULTURIST & TREKKER AREA - 55 sqm Urban Loft is a proposal made as a part of an investigation into the effects of population growth and overcrowding on interior space. The project started with learning modular furniture, pivot box (spacesaving furniture) and the importance of staircase in space. These learnings were later translated into a final project.

MODULAR (WOODEN) FURNITURE - By using various compositions and variations different arrangements of seating are arranged for any space.

PIVOT BOX - A box of 2.4M x 2.1M has to include living, dining, study, pantry, bed and storage by using different pivot points at various positions. These functions are pulled out and can be packed inside the box. (House in a suitcase)

PROCESS SKETCHES

STRETCHING THE TIGHT: UNFOLDING IMAGINATIVELY - Taking the pivot box from the previous exercise and placing it on an empty box of 5.5M x 5.5M x 5M which is then perched on a machan. After that, introducing a staircase to the top, in relation with the placement of pivot box and fenestrations.

Urban Loft is a proposal made as a part of an investigation into the effects of population growth and overcrowding on interior space. The project started with learning modular furniture, pivot box (space-saving furniture) and the importance of staircase in space. The final design began with the idea of metal extensions on rooftops as a part of studio apartment and workspace for millennials. The proposed site is a rooftop of an old Parsi apartment know as Sitaram Sadan located in Marin lines, Mumbai.

SOLARIUM sem - 3 library (community services)

for full portfolio, click on QR code or scan it

SOLARIUM SEM - 3 PROJECT NAME - SOLARIUM CLIENTS - LIBRARY AREA - 760sqm Solarium is a proposal made as part of an investigation into the effects of population growth and overcrowding on interior space. The project begun with a study of the iceberg basement phenomena, where multiple levels are excavated under the homes of the uber-wealthy in central London. This strategy was transplanted to the UNESCO listed walled city of Ahmedabad and used to propose a means of adding new facilities to support existing residential communities. Building underground provides the opportunity to give the city spacious new community facilities, without disrupting its existing crowded urban fabric. The proposed site is under Manek Chowk Fruit Market and the adjacent main road and laneways. It is a community library designed to preserve rare physical books in an increasingly digital world. The proposal re-imagines the stepwell typology. In place of the well shaft, a large void is lined with plants to form a sunken reading garden. Mezzanines accessed from main stair landings provide individual study areas. In the design the key factors are to provide a large volume and a connection to nature. The structure articulates a changing pattern of light and shadow. These attributes counteract the typical image of underground space as dark and frightening.

Flexibility will be an important factor in the coming times, providing us an opportunity for movement and exploration within the living spaces being not a major constraint. With flexibility comes a challenge to create something which is small, mobile, modular and assemblybased yet providing it an opportunistic idea in a creative way to occupy. Providing personalization through the means of transformations, alterations and combinations by only using spaces that are essential and others as shared spaces. experience center (for pods)

Established in 1923, Warner Bros. is one of the most wellknown entertainment companies with the creation, production, distribution, licensing, and marketing of content across feature films, television, home entertainment production, animation, comic books, video games, product and brand licensing, and broadcasting. Among its most prized properties are the DC universe, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Friends, and The Big Bang Theory. Owned by WarnerMedia (which is owned by AT&T), Warner Bros. The intention is to design a dedicated Film museum (entry portion) on the occasion of its historic 100th anniversary of incarnation. Tributing its iconic and heritage movie and characters with a glimpse of their future cinematic universe. As we can we see them adapting to changes and evolving with newer elements like logos and values like Clean, Modern and Timeless similarly showcasing the same in the space.

This elevation/section render was a part of an online workshop and competition conducted by Essajees Atelier interior design studio in Mumbai (Credits of elevation to Essajees Atelier studio). The brief was to render an elevation/section on photoshop as creatively as possible. The main intention of the workshop was to explore and learn from each other. In this particular section, I tried to create a monochromatic colour scheme with textures and depth. . RENDERED SECTION

ARBOUR This pavilion design was part of an elective work - parametric design & digital fabrication. We started learning tools like Rhino and Grasshopper in-depth as a medium to parametrically design and manufacture digital fabrication. The intention was to design either a pavilion, facade or roof and script it in grasshopper. This particular pavilion is located in SID double height, creating a recreational space for seating, storage or display of studio models during the regular semester and even during exhibition duration.
