This course will allow students to explore the practice of self-portraiture in conventional and unconventional ways using both drawing and painting techniques. The practice of self-portraiture will be used as a way of mapping the self, using an exploratory approach to drawing and painting that attempts to answer the question: who am I? This course is an introduction to weaving as a form of visual art-making. To begin, you will be guided through the building and setting up (warping) of a frame loom. In this workshop, you will learn the creative process to create an abstract embroidered composition in volumes and textures We work with a variety of supplies: beads, sequins, flat and tubular ribbons, cords, large threads, fabric scraps, metallic threads You will learn a multitude of volume stitches: fillings, stems, ribbon folding, garter stitch, couching, application of appliqués, etc., from which you will be able to create textures by choosing your materials, your colour palette, and the application of points.
