SEBOKENG.- “ We are here to make sure that community members, particularly contractors are given a fair share of the wealth of this region.” These are the words of the committee members of the newly formed Lesedi Community Forum that aims to unite and help contractors reach their business potential. Speaking to Vaal Weekly, the forum’s chairperson Elias Kheswa says that their aim is to bring workshops and seminars closer to township contractors who have for a long time been declined a chance to raise

their voices on issues that concerns them. Kheswa says that for a long time local contractor have been overlooked and that contractors from outside were the one’s given tenders. “We are inviting everyone who is interested to come join us so that we can better the lives of our people in this region who have, for a long time been neglected. This is an initiative of the community, for the community by the community,” Kheswa says. The members of the newly formed Lesedi Community Forum say that they are here to help the community. MAKUMANE: News in brief Malema to meet samrem over slur PIETERMARIZBURG. - Beleaguered ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema is to meet with the SA Minority Rights Equality Movement (Samrem) on Tuesday to discuss his recent reference to Indians as “amakula” (coolies). His offensive charm follows his declaration on television on Sunday evening that he “loves whites.” Samrem laid a crimen injuria charge against Malema in Pietermaritzburg after his use of the derogatory term during a speech in Gauteng. Samrem convenor advocate Ashin Singh says Malema phoned him last week to request a meeting to “discuss” the matter. By Lazarus Dithagiso BOIPATONG. - The Executive Mayor of Emfuleni Local Municipality, Greta Hlongwane says she feels proud to still rub shoulders with a 107-year-old granny, Lettia Mthimkulu. The mayor recently took time to pay Mthimkulu a special visit after she was invited by the members of the Mensana Corposana Church in Boipatong. She also rolled her sleeves up to join the church members by cleaning and painting the house of granny Mthimkulu in Tshepiso Phase 3 over the weekend, on Sunday. The house was given to the granny by the mayor as part of the Mandela Day activities in Emfuleni. The dream of the granny to live in her own house before she dies became a reality when the mayor handed the key as a commitment in response to

President Jacob Zuma’s call that July 18 should be commemorated by improving the lives of the communities. “Mthikulu is my mother and very glad to be able to spend time with her,” says the mayor before leaving to attend God’s Presence Healing Prophetic International Ministries service in Bophelong Extension 17. The mayor was joined by the MMC for safety, Velly Mcera, and MMC for sports, recreation, arts and culture, Shaka Radebe and ward councilor.
