Zoe is being left out… Ioanna Babeta, illustrator Sophia Touliatou, Publ. Patakis

The school year has already started and before even managing to adjust to our new environment, a problem which makes us very sad arises. Our friend, Kalliopi will soon have to move and therefore go to another school. As we express our emotions it seems that most of us are very frustrated that our friend has to go. Some of the students on the other hand, are happy that Kalliopi will make many new friends. So, we decide to take action, in order to make our friend feel nice and to make sure that her new friendswill love her as much as we do. The situation reminds us of the book by Ioanna Babeta “Zoe is being left out”. We read the story and decide that we don’t want our friend Kalliopi to be left out in her new classroom!

We ask Ioanna Babeta to write a song for Kalliopi, which she does with sincere pleasure! “Kalliopi, every morning we will send you a thousand kisses and, that way, you will not feel alone. You will make new friends easily, and play with them in the school yard. Your new dress will not need any pockets, because your friends will embrace you right away. We love you with all our hearts, and will remember you, always. You will tell us all about it when we meet again! We give you sweet, sweet kisses and a very big warm hug!” Ioanna Babeta September 2016

We wrote some beautiful words about Kalliopi and collected them to make a book to give her new friends to read.

And of course, we also made the dress without pockets…

And now it is time to say goodbye… We give you an enormous hug!!!

Kalliopi, you will always be in our heart!!!!

The little tailor of words Antonis Papatheodoulou, illustrator Iris Samartzi, Publ. Metaixmio

“Out of all the beautiful things in human nature, only words are able to console any heart in need”. A verse by the play “Erotokritos” by V. Kornaros initiates the story by Antonis Papatheodoulou, illustrated by Iris Samardi “The liSle tailor of words”. The book is about the power of words, about how they can warm one’s heart. It is the ideal story to work on during this period, and it inspires us to make a corner where we can discuss our problems with our friends, always with politeness and respect towards our classmates.

The liSle tailor of words gives us two precious gifts: an ear, and a mouth! To remind us that when we are having a conversation with our friends we have to listen to them, in order to talk and voice our opinion.

Using those gifts, we make the friendship chairs, where we can sit and discuss to solve our issues always following the principles of dialogue.

And as we promised the liSle tailor of words what we would give him balloons in order to fly over our school, we will need “light” words what will help him float in the sky! The book’s writer, Antonis Papatheodoulou gave us the words we needed…

…and we tied them on the strings that held his balloons. Now the liSle tailor of words can fly happily over our classroom, to remind us that words can warm up a heart more than anything…

…and playing using our imagination

How to get an elephant to dance Angelos Angelou-Emi Sini, illustrator Sophia Touliatou Publ. Papadopoulos

We read the wonderful story by Angelos Angelou and Emi Sini “How to get an elephant to dance” illustrated by Sofia Touliatou. We turned the heroes of the story into puppets…

We thought to ourselves “how could we try giving strength to a liSle mouse?” And we had many ideas on how to do so!!! We thought of making a manual that anyone could read in order to help a liSle mouse (and not just that mouse) in need. Our ideas were magically turned into a wonderful cover by Sophia Touliatou, the book illustrator, whom we would like to thank very much!!!!!!

And we were even more touched by the gifts that Angelos Angelou and Emi Sini, founders of Kopernikos, sent us!!! We are so, so thankful!!!

Â

I have a pirate as my classmate Antonis Papatheodoulou illustrator Natalia Kapatsoulia Publ. Papadopoulos

A funny, but also sweet and touching story by Antonis Papatheodoulou, illustrated by Natalia Kapatsoulia is with us in our world of fairytales. How would we feel if we had a pirate as our classmate? We would surely love it! We have many ideas! We turn the book heroes into shadow puppets and the story into a shadow play…

We meet pirate Belami himself....

we help him express his emotions…

We cleaned up the hurtful words and turned into words that warm our hearts!

We made a quiet book for Belamis and his friends!

We are sure that Belamis would feel welocome in our classroom!

A child of books, Oliver Jeffers, illustrator Sam Winston , Publ. Ikaros

A child of books… she comes from a world full of stories… A story by Oliver Jeffers illustrated by Sam Winston about a girl who is sailing an ocean of words on her raft. When she reaches this boy’s house she invites him to an adventure in the fairytale world where one can do anything using their imagination… We decide to invite the two kids to our world which is made of the fairytales that took us on amazing journeythroughout the year! A forest of fairytales, clouds of song lyrics…

We want them to find our treasure!!!

Let’s unlock the chest…

And let’s begin our journey!

Â

Οur first stop is Ioanna Mpampeta’s book illustrated by Sofia Touliatou “Zoe is being left over”.

Our second stop is “The tailor of words” by Antonis Papatheodoulou, illustrated by Iris Samardi. Words can warm up a heart more than anything…

Next stop is “On sudden hill”by Linda Sarah and Benji Davis. Birt, Etho and Shu are with us on this trip…

Our fourth stop is “How to get an elephant to dance” by Angelos Angelou and Emi Sini illustrated by Sofia Touliatou.

The fifth, but not least, stop is “My classmate is a pirate” by Antonis Papatheodoulou, illustrated by Natalia Kapatsoulia.

I love you, too! Nina Zafeiriou illustrator Lia Fotiadou Publ. Varfis

A wonderful book amazed us… “I love you, too” by Nina Zafeiriou, illustrated by Lia Fotiadou published by Varfis publcations. A book about love, love that comes in many forms, love that never ends. The four heroines experience true love or they try to find it. Helen is a preschool student, Froso, the cat, is after her Casanova, Margaret has a secret and Soso is in agony, waiting for a leSer from her daughter. We are drawn to how wonderfully the windows are illustrated and we keep imagining our own mom standing behind the windows of the book pictures, dreaming on about her life.

This image is turned into an illustrated reality by Lia Fotiadou! We are very thankful!!!

Mom is dreaming of… … returning to her homeland …becoming a painter …reading books …working as a hairdresser …becoming an explorer and a swimmer …picking up beautiful flowers in the garden …cleaning some spider webs …going on vacation Mommy, I hope that your dreams come true!!!

However, we are concerned…the book heroines never play together in our book. Moreover, what actually happened during the night, when Froso, the cat, was chasing Casanova, still remains a mystery! So, we decide to write a story to solve the case, and reveal more about the relationship between the heroines!

We love the phrase “I love you” and we also love games. So we make a boarding game where the book heroines, on their way to finding true love, collect the leSers to create the phrase I LOVE YOU.

Love exists in friendship, in a hug, in a heart, in a warm home and a in warm smile!

Â

Epilogue Hoping that the books we read will become our future world, this year'ʹs journey to the world of the children'ʹs book is over We are very grateful to the writers and illustrators who responded to our game and travelled besides us. I am grateful, however, to my students who gave me the opportunity to transform their incredible ideas into a pedagogical act. Let this journey never end!
