Capstone Project – Each semester (Fall & Spring) we will be given a capstone project to work on. This project will impact our Division and give us practical experience and tangible items to add to our resume. During the Fall semester will be working on develop a new Performance Training Center at the Natatorium (West Campus). The Performance Training Center will be a conversion of three racquetball courts to create areas for personal training, small group training, and Olympic Lifting to better serve our clients, members and clubs. Together as a cohort During the Spring semester our internship group will be helping to design the inaugural End of the Year Formal Banquet for all our student employees. This group will determine location and all logistics in the planning, logistics and communication of the event.

Overview.


What is the purpose of PTC? The purpose of the Performance Training Studio is to provide a safe space for individuals to execute Olympic lifts and performance training exercises in a supervised environment by a certified coach. Along with providing space for the Olympic lifts, there will be additional space for small groups and personal training. Sports Clubs will be allowed to use the small group training area and the personal training area during their workouts as long as there are no additional clients or group training session going on.

What is the PTC? The performance training center is 3 racquetball courts converted into one facility to provide sufficient space for various types of exercises that our current facilities can’t accommodate for (such as Olympic lifting).

Website: Announcement RACQUETBALL COURTS CLOSURE: Courts 1 - 3 will be unavailable for future use beginning Thursday, August 6. All three courts are planned to be renovated during the Fall 2015 semester in preparation for a new! Performance Training Center.

>> Produce video with PTC overview to share on social media platforms and touch screens. >> #GetFitUW installation with Marine Corps pull-up challenge concept for a lift exercise. Challenge participant’s performance to pursue interest in Olympic Lifting.

What will the members of Sport Clubs experience in the small group class? The small group classes are focused on multiple aspects of health and fitness. Classes will include performance based training, exercises that increase speed, strength, agility, power and general fitness and health. Examples of exercises and equipment include, but are not limited to: kettle bell usage, plyo box usage, prowler pushes, squats, deadlifts, military press, lunges, KB swings, resistance band usage, monkey bars, TRX, battle ropes, climbing ropes, medicine balls, body weight movements (burpees, planks, push ups, mountain climbers etc.) and much more.

General Policy >> Food, gum, tobacco products, and beverages are prohibited. Water is resealable container is allowed.

>> No spitting on floor, machines, or equipment. >> Closed toes shoes must be worn at all time while lifting in the PTC. Sandals, open toed shoes and street shoes are prohibited.

>> Loose chalk is prohibited. Block compressed or liquid chalk are allowed on lifting platforms.

>> Control weights at all times. No swinging weights. >> Assistance from weightlifting coaches and spotters is strongly recommended at all times, except when performing Olympic Lifts.

>> Olympic lifting exercises are only allowed in specified areas. >> Weight collars must be worn on all barbells at all times. 30

>> Appropriate athletic attire is required. Shoes and a shirt be must worn at all times. >> Return and rerack weights and equipment to their appropriate spaces. >> Removal of any equipment or altering equipment is prohibited. Do not neglect or misuse equipment.

>> Bags and personal items are not allowed in the facility. Appropriate storage space is

available outside of the facility. Coaches and staff members are not responsible for lost or stolen property.

>> Only USAW weightlifting coaches may provide fitness instruction. >> Music recommendations and selection is at the USAW coach’s discretion. Explicit or offensive music is prohibited.

>> USAW coaches have authority over all conduct use of equipment. Inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated and may result in expulsion from facilities.

Platform Use – Olympic Lifting Policy >> Use of Olympic lifting platforms is restricted to members who have passed the Olympic Lifting Test-Out.

>> All lifts must be performed in a controlled manner throughout the entire movement. >> Releasing weights, including drops, is allowed in a controlled manner only. Do not slam weights.

>> Competition bumper plates and Olympic Lifting bar must remain in the Olympic lifting platform area at all times.

>> Return and re-rack bumper plates and Olympic Lifting bars to their respective places after use.

>> Loose chalk is prohibited. Block, compressed or liquid chalk are allowed on lifting platforms.

>> Only ONE member is permitted on the platform areas at one time. A maximum of TWO members may use each platform at time. Group use is strictly prohibited.

>> Only ONE barbell is permitted on the platform at any given time. All other barbells MUST be racked.

>> Vertically stacking weight plates to create a heightened pulling base is prohibited. >> Failure to follow these guidelines will result in suspension from platform privileges and possible suspension from the facility.

Analysis.


Who are the people that will be running each class? There will be a USAW certified coach or a certified personal trainer that specialize in performance training that will be running the classes.

How many times per week will classes be offered? Each class will be offered twice per week in 45-minute sessions.

How many classes will be offered each semester? There will be two or three, 4-week sessions per semester.

How many people can be in a class? There can be a maximum of 10 people each class and the class will run for 4 week sessions.

How much does one 4-week session cost? One 4-week session costs $25 = ($3.13 per class) per person. Performance Training Center.

What equipment will be in the facility? Facility equipment includes: 3 Olympic Lifting platforms, climbing ropes, turf strip, prowler pushes, power racks, functional rig, TRX mounts, medicine balls, etc.

What equipment can Sport Clubs use? >> Sport Clubs will be able to use Olympic lifting platforms if they have tested out and if there is a USAW certified coach present.

>> During small group training sessions, depending on the type of small group program;

Sport Clubs members will be able to use all the equipment the workouts require under the supervision of a coach.
