The Axworthy Health & RecPlex is a state-of-the-art facility with a community gym and an indoor green space that accommodates a variety of sports like soccer, flag football, and track and field. You can use the artificial turf fields, four-lane sprint track, retractable batting cages, or the dance/yoga studio.

Gallery 1C03 is UWinnipeg’s campus art gallery. Take in a variety of exhibits throughout the year, or showcase your own art in our annual staff and student exhibit. Our Theatre and Film department is one of the largest in Canada, and students can experience free live performances right on campus at the fully-equipped Asper Centre for Theatre and Film.

Recreation and wellness

Dining You don’t have to leave campus to get fresh, delicious and authentic dishes made from scratch. Award-winning Diversity Food Services operates many of the restaurants and cafes at UWinnipeg, and is a recognized leader in sustainable food services.

Squash, strength training, and basketball are just some of the free intramurals, classes, and dropin sports available to UWinnipeg students. There’s something for every interest and skill level. The Bill Wedlake Fitness Centre features quality cardio equipment, weight machines, and free weights. Students enjoy unlimited access to the facility year-round.

What are undergraduate studies? A 3-year degree can be your path to employment in your area of interest, while a 4-year degree can lead to employment, graduate studies, and the option to complete honours courses. A bachelor’s degree consists of a major (area of focus), degree requirements, and electives (engaging courses that are not necessarily related to the major). Electives and degree requirements enable you to take courses in multiple areas of interest. Business students can take a course in theatre and film, for example, while science students could also study literature or philosophy. Find the courses and subjects that are right for you!

Faculty of Arts Studying within the Faculty of Arts develops your perspective on a variety of topics in the social sciences and humanities, while building essential skills in problem-solving, creative and critical thinking, research, teamwork, and communications. Taking a variety of Arts courses while completing any degree is a great way to add breadth to your knowledge base and skill set. A degree in the arts can be your pathway to careers in the fields of communications, cultural heritage, law, policy analysis, and more.

Classics is the study of the Ancient Greek and Roman worlds from the perspectives of literature, history, archaeology, and art history. For various historical reasons, the Classical world and Classical languages have had an enormous influence on critical contemporary concepts, and therefore Classics is a great way to delve into a fascinating topic and learn critical research, writing, reading, and presentation skills.

Examine concepts and practical applications of justice, as well as historical and contemporary explanations of responses to crime. Students are asked to think critically about the key challenges confronting the criminal justice system, and to always question how justice might be achieved.

Think about “disability” and “ability” in new ways. Using the social model of disability rather than the bio-medical model, the problem becomes a lack of ramps rather than someone using a wheelchair. The focus of this interdisciplinary program is the critical analysis of disablement in society.

Consider the various aesthetic, political, and historical factors influencing literary and media artforms. Indigenous languages are the foundation of Indigenous knowledges and communities. Women’s and Gender Studies Promotes an intersectional approach to understanding social problems and phenomena. It pays special attention to the ways sex, gender, and sexuality are shaped by colonialism, racism, ageism, homophobia, and transphobia, as well as by constructions of difference based on class, (dis)ability, religion, ethnicity, and culture. In our classes, students of all genders and sexualities learn about feminist movements to end sexism, exploitation, and related social oppressions. This unique program will allow students to work towards two degrees at the same time, while gaining practical experience. Over a period of five years, students will work towards a Bachelor of Arts, Kinesiology, or Science at the same time as a Bachelor of Education.

Starting in the second year, students are placed in the classroom to observe and gain teaching experience — and continue student teaching in every year of the program for a total of 24 weeks of experience.

Explore the study of human movement. The scope of practice of an athletic therapist is devoted to the health care of the physically active individual. This involves injury prevention, immediate care, and reconditioning of musculoskeletal injuries. UWinnipeg’s AT curriculum is one of only nine programs accredited by the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA).

Students thinking about teaching physical education in the school system as their career of choice should consider this integrated program. Combine kinesiology and education courses throughout five years of study to prepare to teach at the early, middle, or senior years level.

AP & IB credits

Regular requirements for programs in all faculties (except the Faculty of Education):

UWinnipeg recognizes the Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) secondary school programs, and will take these courses into account when considering admission requirements, scholarships, and university credit. Transfer credit is awarded for more than 25 AP courses and more than 20 IB courses.

Current high school students graduating in June, or high school graduates, should have at least 30 Manitoba high school credits, including: › Five credits at the Grade 12 level (40 A, S, G or U). Three must be 40S. Physical Education 40F cannot be used as one of the five courses. › Present at least one credit of core English 40S (Comprehensive, Literary, or Transactional Focus) and one credit of core Mathematics 40S (Pre-Calculus, Applied, or Essential).

In addition to transfer credits, students receive awards for successful completion of AP and IB exams. Visit uwinnipeg.ca/ap-ib for more information.

In-course awards and bursaries

Opportunity Fund Bursary and General Bursary

First-year and continuing UWinnipeg students are eligible for a wide range of awards, bursaries, and prizes in the fall term. The online awards portal automatically matches students to awards based on their student record. Be sure to log in to provide additional information required for many in-course awards and bursaries.

Bursaries are available to current full-time students with a financial need and a minimum GPA of 2.0. The Opportunity Fund is a unique UWinnipeg initiative and endowment that supports bursaries for Indigenous, low-income and refugee students, as well as those from war-affected countries, recent immigrants, and mature learners. General Bursaries for other domestic students are supported by UWinnipeg to supplement living costs while studying.

It is now easier to apply for awards with our online application. You must apply and be accepted to UWinnipeg before applying for awards and scholarships.

Government student aid Federal and provincial student aid Provincial and federal student aid and loans are the best options for students who are unable to cover their tuition and living costs while studying. Applying online is easy and the Awards office is here to help. If you are approved for student aid, you will automatically be considered for grants and bursaries. Your student loan will not need to be repaid while you study full-time. Obtaining government student aid could mean having more time to study. With tuition and living expenses covered through grants, bursaries, and loans, you won’t need to sacrifice study time to earn money at a job during the academic year.

Five courses per term, or 30 credit hours per academic year, is the maximum course load. Full-time status requires a minimum of three courses per term (18 credit hours per academic year).
