Cardiff Met Conferences Keeping you in the Know Recent Events Prisoners’ Education Trust On 16th September 2016 Cardiff Met hosted the Prisoners Learning Alliance conference at Llandaff campus. Over 150 prison educators, academics, support staff and prison professionals from all over the UK attended, to discuss how education can play a significant part in helping reduce reoffending. The conference was launched by Chair of Governors Barbara Wilding and included a keynote speech from a Prisoners’ Education Trust alumni and current Cardiff Met student who presented his learner journey and how Cardiff Met has helped him turn his life around.
“Lunch, venue and location were all very high quality and we enjoyed the Welsh cakes too! Thank you so much for your incredible organisation and help putting the conference together.” Prisoners’ Education Trust

Downs Syndrome Association of Wales On the weekend of 22-24 July we hosted a residential event for the Downs Syndrome Association. The group came together to discuss and plan how they can contribute to the training programme for professionals across Wales. An important aspect of the course is the opportunity for professionals to hear directly from individuals with Down’s syndrome. They shared their experiences to tell professionals about their lives and to help in changing people’s attitudes.

“The lovely en-suite bedrooms and attractively designed conference rooms gave a very professional feel to the event. The catering and support from onsite staff made for a stress free conference. In particular we were grateful that staff made an extra effort to ensure that our guests with learning disabilities felt welcome and had everything they needed. We would definitely look to use this venue again.” Downs Syndrome Association

South Wales Potters For the second time running South Wales Potters held their residential weekend at Cardiff Met, with two well-known ceramicists being invited to demonstrate their work. The Science Lab proved a perfect space for renowned ceramicists Clare Wakefield and Doug Fitch to demonstrate their particular skills, and gave the delegates a chance to try out some of the techniques in the ensuing workshop sessions.
