On February 11, 2025, the Richards College of Business hosted the Black History in Business Luncheon in the Campus Center Ballroom, bringing
together students, faculty, and community members to celebrate the legacy of Black leadership in business The event featured Durran Dunn, CPA, CIA, a distinguished business executive, decorated worldclass athlete, and passionate advocate for diversity.
Dunn delivered a powerful keynote address, highlighting the enduring impact of Black labor and leadership on the business world
During his speech, Dunn shared his four-point play to success belief, commitment, resilience, and relationships, a compelling reminder of the dedication it takes to lead with impact His insights on perseverance, entrepreneurship, and diversity left attendees feeling motivated and empowered to strive for excellence in their own careers In a memorable moment, Durran invited a student to take a risk and embrace an opportunity. Congratulations to Maria Mendes, who was awarded a scholarship simply by saying “Yes ” Her willingness to seize the moment exemplifies the power of confidence and initiative A special thank you to Kendal Sparks, who did an outstanding job as the event’s MC, and to Justin Harris for his powerful performance of "Lift Every Voice and Sing. " Special recognition also goes to Caleb Murphy, who introduced the keynote speaker, his mentor through the C-SUITE program, adding even greater significance to the moment The luncheon sparked meaningful discussions on the importance of representation, mentorship, and community in shaping the future of business. The Stone Center for Family Business, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation hosted an engaging luncheon featuring Gary Schoeniger, founder and CEO of the Entrepreneurial Learning Initiative As an inter
tionally recognized expert in entrepreneurial mindset education, Schoeniger captivated attendees with his insights on "The Entrepreneurial Mindset Advantage: The Hidden Logic That Unleashes Human Potential. " Throughout his presentation, Schoeniger explored the powerful concept of the entrepreneurial mindset and how it can unlock untapped potential in individuals and organizations
His talk highlighted the importance of fostering this mindset to drive innovation, overcome challenges, and maximize opportunities for personal and professional growth. On April 25, the Richards College of Business hosted Analytics
Day 2025, a signature event that brought together students, faculty, and industry professionals to explore the evolving role of data and analytics in business decision-making The day featured a series of keynote presentations, breakout sessions, and expert panel discussions focused on emerging technologies, data literacy, and the strategic use of analytics
to drive organizational growth. Industry representatives from companies such as Southwire, Chick-fil-A, and Delta shared
practical insights on how data is transforming operations, customer engagement, and innovation in their fields.

The University of West Georgia Newnan hosted the Newnan Economic Forecast in May, a timely event that coincided with the 10th anniversary of the UWG Newnan campus The event welcomed business and community leaders from across Coweta County to explore emerging economic trends at the local, state, and national levels. Attendees heard from keynote speaker Dr. Jerry D. Parrish, chief economist for the Metro Atlanta Chamber, who provided an in-depth analysis of current economic indicators and projections. Dr. William Smith, Chair and David A. Johnson Professor in Predictive Analytics, also shared valuable insights on data-driven decision-making and market forecasting. The event opened with a welcome from Associate Dean Dr Hilde Patron and included remarks from UWG Interim President Dr. Ashwani Monga. Faculty experts from the university’s Center for Business and Economic Research further contributed to the program, offering research-based perspectives on the region’s economic outlook
