A Message from the President & CEO and Chair of the Board
Dear Friends,
We are profoundly grateful for your unwavering support of United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region and the critical work of our partner non-profits. Your generosity has enabled us to achieve remarkable progress in our community, providing access to healthy food, education for youth and struggling women, free tax preparation, legal services, and affordable housing for veterans in our community.
In the fiscal year 2023-24, our initiatives began with our 4th annual Diaper Distribution, where over 100,000 diapers were donated and distributed to non-profits, thanks to the generosity of individuals, local corporations, and department stores. Following this, our School Supply Distribution provided essential resources for families with school-age children, enabling them to start the academic year prepared.
In September, our Community Breakfast celebrated the spirit of giving, honoring local ‘Kindness Champions’ who exemplify compassion in our community. We were particularly proud to recognize the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley as our Community Champion. Thomas Nardacci, CEO of the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, provided insightful remarks about their vital work. This organization stands as our leading partner in combating food waste and ensuring food security, reaching over 150,000 individuals monthly through a network of 258 sites across the Hudson Valley.
Participants were able to access a financial literacy seminar about surviving an inflationary economy online, with Zoom facilitating greater attendance. Volunteer involvement at the 9/11, MLK and Juneteenth Days of Service were equally supported and the online Equity challenges for MLK and Juneteenth had enthusiastic participation by staff, friends, and community members.
Our year culminated in the Celebration of Service, the highlight of the evening was presenting the Distinguished Leadership Award to RBT CPAs, LLP. Their unwavering commitment shines through their continued support of local non-profits like the United Way. We were again overwhelmed by the support of sponsors and partners in our community and recognized the top Corporate Campaigns for this year at our dinner. We also congratulate and thank the Talent United contestants and winners.
Our second Pull the Tank event was announced to be held in June, where teams of 20 people will again be challenged to pull a WWII Tank 50 feet. Proceeds from this event benefit UWDOR’s veteran assistance initiatives.
Thank you again for your continued support of the United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region, united in purpose to fight for the health, education, and financial stability of everyone in our community.

Volunteering Impact
VOLUNTEER:
Every hour, every minute you give helps someone in need. Through our online volunteer portal, United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region makes it easy for individuals and companies to ensure everyone finds their perfect volunteer “match.”
WHY VOLUNTEER?

According to a new study noted in Time Magazine’s article, “Why Volunteering is Good for Your Mental Health” not only is it a great way to give back, but a new study shows that volunteering provides important health benefits.
THE IMPACT OF VOLUNTEERING IN THE COMMUNITY
Last year, we touched the lives of more than 214,688 individuals. Volunteers helped make that difference with 3,494 individuals contributing their time and talent. To continue to support our Dutchess and Orange communities, we are counting on you. Studies show that volunteer hours, valued at $28.06 per hour for each volunteer, add up and save donor dollars allowing more money to go to much needed services in our community.
WANT TO VOLUNTEER?
Visit our volunteer portal at donate.uwdor.org/Volunteer/VolHome.jsp to find the perfect match for you or contact our Community Impact team (ci-inbox@uwdor.org) for special opportunities and our Days of Caring! To help out year-round, email Rebecca Lull (rlull@uwdor.org) for our essential needs program.

JOIN THE LEGACY CIRCLE
LEAVE A LASTING LEGACY ~ INVEST IN YOUR COMMUNITY AND YOURSELF WITH UNITED WAY
A Gift that Costs You Nothing Today
SHAPE A BRIGHTER FUTURE
United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region has a long history of improving lives in our community. You can be a vital part of our future by making a legacy gift. Joining the Legacy Circle alllows you to:
• Support the causes you care about Direct your gift to any of our initiatives, ensuring your passion continues to make a difference.
• Secure your legacy
Leave a lasting impact on our community and create a meaningful inheritance for future Generations.
Here are two impactful ways your dedication can continue for generations:
BEQUESTS
The easiest way to make an impact. A simple, flexible and versatile way to ensure we can continue to build a stronger community is through a charitable bequest, a gift in your will or living trust. Add as little as one sentence (often called “bequest language”) saying you want to support United Way. Please feel free to use this sample language, which may be of assistance to you and your advisor: “I hereby give United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region, a 501(c)(3) charitable Organization (Tax ID: 06-1045698), the following sum of $________ OR ________% of the residue of my estate, OR described property: _________________ to use where the need is greatest OR to be directed toward _______.________” United Way has partnered with FreeWill (www.freewill.com) to offer a free tool that allows users to create a legal will, update their will, or start planning before consulting a lawyer.
BENEFICIARY DESIGNATIONS
Beneficiary designations allow you to transfer assets directly to individuals or organizations like the United Way. Some common examples include life insurance policies, bank and brokerage accounts and retirement accounts including IRAs, 401K/403B accounts and health savings accounts. Contact your retirement plan administrator, insurance company or financial institution for a change-of-beneficiary form or ask how to change beneficiaries online. On the form, list the percentage you would like United Way to receive.
By joining our Legacy Society, you’ll be ensuring funding for our programs today and well into the future. To find out more, contact Jeannie Montano at jmontano@uwdor.org or 845-471-1900, ext. 3101
