Pride Guide 2020

Meet your Officers Anna Kimpton

Hi! I'm Anna, one of your 2020 Pride Officers! I'm studying Business Law and Marketing because I'm a money hungry Commerce student. I can speak moderate Italian and do a bit of singing here and there so thats pretty cool I guess. I'm also originally from down south so I'm always getting lost every time I go for a drive RIP. I have soo many exciting plans for this year and I can't wait to have a merry gay old time in 2020!!

Sophia Perkins

Hey! I'm Sophia, the other 2020 Pride Officer and I'm a Marine Biology Major so i can fulfil the artsy environmental sciences gay role. At any time you can find me running late to class or making pikelets in the Pride Room (yes you can have some). I'm also super pumped to have this role and very ready to keep the success of 2019 going!

WHO ARE WE? The UWA Student Guild Pride Department represents and advocates for LGBT+ students on campus. All UWA students are welcome to get involved (whether you identify as LGBT+ or an ally).

What do we do? The department runs regular social events for students, such as movie nights, games nights and brunch meetups. We also hold a range of bigger events, including a quiz night, a camp, and Pride Week in Semester 2! We also sit on the Guild Council and work in collaboration with other areas of the Guild and the University to represent the interests of LGBT+ students. We’re here to help; if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch!

Contact us! Email: pride@guild.uwa.edu.au Facebook Page: fb.com/uwastudentguildpride Closed Facebook Group: UWA Pride Dept & Supporters- www.fb.com/groups/15592015514/

The Pride Room The Pride Room acts as a hub for the Pride Department's various weekly events, as well as a safe space and community area for members of the LGBT+ community at UWA. Everyone is welcome to drop in to take a break between classes, socialise and take advantage of resources like our library, fridge, microwave and kettle.

How to find the room The room can be found on the 2nd floor of Guild Village. This can be accessed via the stairs in the guild courtyard or via the lift (press P3). A more detailed guide can be found at fb.com/ uwastudentguildpride/notes

ge,

IN THE CLOSET? It can be nerve-wracking to participate in LGBT+ events if you’re not out. Having a space to be yourself can be necessary at this time, so we take steps to protect students’ privacy: Our Facebook group is closed, meaning non-members can't see if you join or post, and we never disclose who attends Department events. If you can’t like our page or join our Facebook group, you can find out what we’re doing through the Guild Weekly mailing list. You are automatically subscribed as a Guild member. The Pride Room is in a low traffic spot. You can definitely be involved while in the closet. If you have any concerns, please email us at pride@guild.uwa.edu.au and we can find a solution for you!

Events Weekly Events Pride is the only department that runs regular weekly events- two a week in fact! Look out for a fun, action packed year with activities such as movie nights, arts and craft sessions, brunches and catch-ups at the Tav! These events are advertised on our facebook page: fb.com/uwastudentguildpride

Collectives

This year we will be committed to running regular, autonomous collectives. The currently run collectives are the Trans and Non-Binary Collective, the Lesbian Collective and the Bisexual Collective. This year however we are so excited to introduce two brand NEW collectives! The MLM Collective (for men who like men) and the WLW Collective (for women who like women, in collaboration with the Women's Department). The collectives are a super awesome way to meet people within your community, hang out and discuss issues related to you.
