

BioIgnite Chronicles: Student's Journey at UWA's BES
Student Competition
This competition encourages students to consider their experiences, inspirations, and motivations as they reflect on their journey through the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences. Students are encouraged to express their journey through a medium that best reflects their experiences, creativity, and inspiration. Submissions may include, but are not limited to:
Written Essay: 1000-1500 words, Word document format
Video Presentation: 3-5 minutes, MP4 format
Reel: Short-form video, 30-60 seconds, MP4 format, focused on key moments or highlights of your journey
Multimedia Presentation: e.g., PowerPoint, Prezi, or similar, including a narrative component
Song or Music Composition: MP3 format, with accompanying lyrics and a brief explanation of the inspiration behind the work
Artistic Creations: e.g., digital art, photography series with captions, etc., submitted as a JPEG or PDF file along with a narrative component
Other Creative Works: Students may propose other formats that effectively communicate their journey; these must be pre-approved by the competition organizers by contacting bes@uwa.edu)
Eligibility and Judging
All undergraduate students enrolled in the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences and completed at least 60 credit hours.
All submissions will be judged based on those criteria by at least three external judges (not affiliated with BES).
Awards
All individuals submitting an essay will receive DES swag. Monetary awards will be given to the top three submissions.
First Place: $100 and a certificate
Second Place: $75 and a certificate
Third Place: $50 and a certificate
