Workshop Objectives: • Define evidence-based practice (EBP) and related concepts • Identify the 7 steps involved in the EBP process • Apply the EBP process to a clinical problem • Design an EBP project to address a clinical problem • Develop skills to implement the EBP process within the scope of your professional role and responsibilities The workshop will be delivered via team-based learning. Participants will: • Be responsible for pre-session reading, viewing videos • Engage in interactive learning sessions • Participate in the EBP process within small interprofessional teams to • Identify a clinical problem • Develop a PICOT question • Gather and appraise pertinent literature to learn what is known • Develop an evidence-based plan that might be initiated at their institution to address the clinical issue.

Cynthia Ann Leavers Keynote Address
Cynthia Ann Leaver, PhD, APRN, FNP-BC, is an established Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and Family Nurse Practitioner who currently serves in multiple positions throughout Maryland. She works as a Nurse Research Consultant at Meritus Health - Medical Care Services in Hagerstown, Maryland. Furthermore, she is an Associate Dean at the United States University in San Diego, California, and Family Nurse Practitioner at Kaiser Permanente in McLean, Virginia. Dr. Leaver has 25 years of clinical background in nursing education, administration, post-surgical care, neurologic intensive care, ambulatory care, post anesthetic care, occupational health, school health, well-women, and well-baby care.

Cheryl Parker
Dr. Parker is a clinical assistant professor at the University of Texas at Tyler and the informatics lead faculty. She has over 35 years’ experience in the healthcare industry including clinical nursing, management, nursing informatics, and education both corporate and academic. Prior to joining UT Tyler, Dr. Parker was the chief nursing informatics officer for PatientSafe Solutions and Rubbermaid Healthcare, senior clinical informatics specialist for Motion Computing and Providence Health. She has served as adjunct informatics faculty at Walden University, Texas Woman's University and Rutgers University. She serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the American Nursing Informatics Association and is a lead instructor for the ANIA Nursing Informatics Certification Review course. She is Fellow of Healthcare Informatics Systems Society (HIMSS) where she is a section editor for the Clinical Informatics Newsletter, belongs to the American Nurses Association/Texas Nurses Association where she served the Scope & Standards of Practice for Nursing Informatics revision workgroup and to Sigma Theta Tau International (Sigma), the international honor society for nursing. Her areas of interests including clinical workflow improvement using technology and educating the next generation of informatics nurses. Dr. Parker is ANCC board certified in nursing informatics and is a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE). She is a frequent speaker, educator, and author on nursing informatics topics.
