EXPERIENCE

VOL 101 ONLINE INTRODUCTION TO UT

Online Introduction to UT is an online, interactive program that introduces new Vols to all the resources available to them as a UT student. Students will receive access to Vol 101 in early June and must complete this required program before the first day of classes.

VOL 102 NEW STUDENT ADVISING

New Student Advising is when new Vols meet with an advisor from their academic college and register for classes. Students will select their advising date when they register for orientation. More details regarding their appointment time and additional requirements will be emailed to students from their college closer to their selected date.

Students will not be able to register for their fall classes without meeting with an advisor.

VOL 103 ON-CAMPUS EXPERIENCE

On-Campus Experience is a one-day, in-person program for first-year students and their families to engage with their academic college, tour a residence hall, eat at a dining hall, learn about campus resources, and connect with other new students.

While it is not a required component of orientation, Vol 103 is strongly encouraged.

Vol 103 is for first-year students only; however, incoming transfer students can request to participate by emailing firstyear@utk.edu.

VOL 104

BIG ORANGE WELCOME

Big Orange Welcome is designed for students to explore campus, engage in opportunities to drive academic success and connect with other new Volunteers.

There will be required events the weekend before the first day of classes, with hundreds of additional events throughout the first six weeks of the semester. Students will receive full details in July.

VOL 105 FIRST-YEAR SEMINAR

First-Year Seminar is a one-credit course designed to support new Vols as they acclimate to life at UT, while connecting them with other new students.

First-year students will automatically be enrolled in an appropriate section of First-Year Studies (FYS) 101 (or a college or Honors equivalent) before or during New Student Advising. Transfer students have the option to register for Transitioning on Rocky Top (TRNS) 201 during New Student Advising.

VOL 106 VOLS START BACK

Vols Start Back is a re-orientation experience that occurs at the beginning of the spring semester designed to help students get off to a strong start. This immersive, in-person program is designed to equip students with the tools and strategies needed to excel and thrive at UT. Students will register for this program at the end of the fall.
