Everything we’ve done over the last four years has been focused on boosting their confidence, setting high expectations, and creating an environment where every student thrives. Through innovative programs and personalized support, these strategic investments significantly improved retention and graduation rates in just a few years. For the second straight year, UT has posted a record retention rate, with 92 percent of first-year students returning for their sophomore year.

RECORD RETENTION RATE

UT’s success in retaining students and keeping them on track to graduate has driven enrollment growth, reaching 38,728 student scholars this fall, a 7 percent increase and record high.

Graduation rates at UT have improved for four consecutive years, with 74 percent of students graduating in six years.

A record 62 percent of UT students now graduate in four years.

This improved four-year graduation rate has created capacity for more students, meeting a demand for a UT education and strengthening the state’s workforce.

UT continues using a strengths-based approach for student leadership, academic, and professional development. Firstyear students take a Clifton Strengths assessment in their initial semester and receive mentoring on leveraging their strengths for success.

Gallup data shows individuals who develop their strengths are 12 percent more productive and six times more engaged in their jobs.

Student engagement with academic coaching tripled in three years, with 12,353 interactions reported last year.

Peer learning sessions doubled from the previous year, reaching 70,178 interactions.

The average GPA for the Veterans Impact Program—a program which helps provide holistic support for first-year veterans students—climbed to 3.39, a 13 percent improvement from the baseline GPA from two years ago.

In 2023, 97% of first-year Vols had positive academic standing, the highest in UT history.

UT graduates in the class of 2023 reported a median starting salary of $62,000.

For the sixth consecutive year, UT has been recognized as a top producer of Fulbright Scholars, highlighting its commitment to academic excellence and global engagement. Within the Southeastern Conference, UT ranks second, producing 12 Fulbright students during the 2023–2024 academic year.

A record 91.4 percent of UT graduates reported a positive career outcome in 2023.

The Vol Edge program, launching in January 2025, will cultivate a thriving source of highly skilled graduates for the workforce. The career-readiness program will harness individual strengths and promote well-being. With 100 percent participation in internships, undergraduate research, education abroad, or servicelearning, the program will equip graduates to effectively articulate and showcase their strengths to employers. This initiative also allows employers to build relationships with future talent before graduation.
