A WORD FROM THE PRESIDENT On behalf of our Club, I would like to welcome Mt Evelyn, Emerald and Belgrave we hope you all have an enjoyable day.

U14s have had a really positive start to this season after a tough season last year which is great to see.

This round commemorates Anzac Day, I hope we can all take the time to remember those gallant men and women who sacrificed their lives in service to their country.

A big thank you to the 17 U13 boys willing to play up and support the U14 side this season.

We wish the Upwey Olinda U16s all the best as they take on Monbulk under lights tonight at Olinda.

The first two weeks of the season have been great, mixed result for our sides in regards to wins but the enthusiasm is terrific.

I hope everyone enjoys their footy today and we look forward to seeing you all tonight at 5pm for our home game spit roast dinner.

Mission Statement - IT’S ABOUT THE KIDS Upwey Tecoma Junior Football Club aim to provide a non threatening environment for the youth of the area to participate in Australian Rules Football where they can feel involved, safe, connected and belonging by: • Acknowledging that not all players are of the same ability so as to ensure that all players have an equal opportunity to develop their skills by having a focus on skill acquisition, • Providing the building blocks for a future of playing football, winning comes from good fundamentals so the reward for what you do may come many years down the track, • Providing as far as practical an equality of game time, • Providing an opportunity to experience a variety of playing positions, • Instilling into the players an understanding of the tactics and style of game applicable to their age group • Ensuring that no player gives up for lack of opportunity, and that no player leaves with low self esteem, • Being aware of what influences and issues our players may be facing away from the Club, • Ensuring that players treat each other and those around them with respect, • Communicating the Clubs philosophy to the coaching staff, players and parents.

Changes to the State Tobacco Amendment Act 2013 mean smoking is now prohibited within 10 meters of children’s playgrounds, outdoor skate parks and sporting venues during underage sporting events.

Upwey-Tecoma Junior Football Club Juniors to receive new Sherrins thanks to Rory Sloane’s NAB Supergoal The Upwey-Tecoma Junior Football Club will receive a Sherrin Football Pack thanks to the NAB Supergoal kicked by Rory Slone in the Port Adelaide v Adelaide NAB Challenge match.

Introduced in 2006, the grassroots initiative sees NAB donate $500 worth of footballs to an AFL player’s nominated junior club when they kick a NAB Supergoal - a goal kicked from outside the 50 metre line during the 2015 NAB Challenge.

The monster kick not only adds nine points to the scoreboard, but also adds a raft of football supplies to the star’s junior club - each of which receive a Sherrin carry bag containing six Sherrins in assorted sizes to benefit all age groups.

Rory was recruited to the Adelaide Football Club in selection 44 in the 2008 NAB AFL Draft.

Rory said he was pleased that his junior club was benefiting from his performance at the elite level.

“Junior footy at the grassroots level is the foundation of the game - it’s where you learn to play the game and develop a love for the sport. I think it’s great NAB is helping local clubs, I’m sure the footballs will be put to good use,” he said.

Since 2006, NAB has donated over $280,000 worth of cash and resources to junior football clubs through the NAB Supergoal program, assisting with the future development of potential AFL stars. It’s all part of NAB’s commitment to Footify Australia and grow the game.

NAB has been Footifying Australia for over 10 years through NAB AFL Auskick, the NAB AFL Rising Stars Program, the NAB AFL Trade Period and the NAB Challenge.

CODES OF CONDUCT pARENTS • Abide by the rules and conditions as set down by the DRJFL and UTJFC • Consumption of alcohol, in any form, is strictly prohibited at all DRJFL matches, inclusive of finals • Remember, children play sport for their enjoyment, not yours • Encourage children to participate, do not force them • Turn defeat into victory by helping your child work towards skill improvement and good sportsmanship • Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or losing a game • Teach your children that honest effort is as important as victory so that the result of each game is accepted without due disappointment

• Remember that children learn best by example - applaud good play by both your team and by members of the opposite team • Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from sporting activities • Do not abuse or criticise official’s decisions and teach children likewise • Support and show appreciation of volunteer coaches, officials and administrators as without them, your child could not participate • Speak with your child’s coach if you or your child has have a problem, before approaching a member of the committee • Support your Club officials in maintaining the highest standard of behaviour both on and off the field for betterment of the League and your family

PLAYERS & COACHES • Play by the rules • Never argue with an umpire or official • Control your temper. Verbal abuse of officials, umpires or other players or provoking an opponent is neither acceptable nor permitted in any sport • Work equally hard for yourself and your team • Be a good sport - always shake hands with your opponent/s before and after the game, saying thanks to them and the umpire/s

• Treat all players as you would like to be treated • Do not interfere with, bully or take unfair advantage of another teammate or opponent • Play for the fun of it, not just to please anyone else

CODES OF CONDUCT SPECTATORs • Children play organised sport for fun. They are not playing for the entertainment of Spectators only nor are they miniature professionals.

• Applaud good performances and efforts from each Team. Congratulate all participants upon their performance regardless of the game’s outcome.

• Respect the Officials’ decision. If there is a disagreement, follow the appropriate procedure in order to question the decision and teach the Children to do likewise.

• Never ridicule or scold a Child for making a mistake during competition. Positive comments are motivational.

• Condemn the use of violence in any form, be it by Spectators, Coaches, Officials or Players.

• Show respect to your Teams’ opponents.

Without them there would be no game.

• Encourage Players to follow the rules and the Officials’ decisions.

• Demonstrate appropriate social b ehaviour by not using foul language, harassing Players, Coaches or Officials.

Under 9 It was a special effort from all the players from Upwey/Tecoma and Monbulk to battle through the very cold and wet conditions in our round 2 match. Despite the slippery ball, cold hands and soggy ground, the skills and endeavour from both teams was fantastic. So thank you to all the players for putting in such a great effort. Thank you also to our two captains this week who lead by example on the field; Connor Bianchi and Oskar Taylor.

Round 1 Report - Awesome effort goals and very stiff not to score by the kids this week, the tackling a couple more. When the final and pressure was outstanding. siren sounded, we were down by 7 points.

The opposition had the ball in their forward line for 8 out of 10 Our young Tigers should be very proud of their efforts. Thanks to mins in the first quarter, and not allowing them to score was a Dylan and Regan Comello for filling in for us. credit to the young Tigers.

After an even scrap in the second quarter, our players seemed to fall off the pace in the third, with Mt Evelyn kicking 3 goals to our zero. But the final quarter was excellent by the Tigers, kicking 2

Round 2 Report - The kids played a strong Monbulk team, who gave us a bit of a touch up in the practice match. It was rather pleasing to see the players take it right up to them this round, with some fierce but fair tackling.

Even though the Tiges didn’t score, they certainly are proving to the parents, coaches and themselves that they are improving. With a little more listening at training and on game day, I think they will keep improving.

A big thanks to those who help out at training and on game day, as we all know that these games wouldn’t go ahead without the help of the parents and families.

Under 11 Wow, what a difference a few weeks make! When we last played Monbulk about 4 weeks ago, they gave us a football lesson. Our boys took it right up to them, particularly in the second half where our confidence grew and we outscored them. Some wonderful desperation displayed by our boys as they concentrated on getting to the ball first. Our challenge now is to start the game better, so we can maintain our strong efforts for 4

Under 12 Footy and winter are definitely back! Cold and wet is an understatement, but great to see the whole team turn up to play.

Under 13 Round 1 What a great start to the 2015 year. The weather and the football treated us well. The kids looked great in their new style jumpers.

The boys banded together and all contributed to an excellent game. We had some excellent signs of what we’ve been practicing over the last month, which is a credit to our players.

Great job guys for a real team effort.

Awards: Parri, Ethan, Lachie ( on debut ), Cody and Rory. Special Round 2 What a shockingly wet and cold day. You had to feel for the boys who spent the first 10 minutes of the game getting poured and hailed upon.

When the game started it was clear that this took the wind out of a lot of the boys sails ( can’t blame them really ) . Whilst we were great with our chasing and pressuring, we were beaten by a team that was first to the ball and were willing to pick it up and take the game on. Under 14 Sunday’s match against Monbulk was hard fought. The conditions all morning had been wet which rendered the ground soggy at best and taking into account the sloped nature of Monbulk’s ground, a ground level style of football was played. The footy was often bogged down in packs, slippery and difficult to handle- a low scoring game was on the cards.

The scores were fairly even in the first and in the second, we lead by two goals. Monbulk got a run in the third and kicked 5 goals to

pull away and lead by 19 points by the break. We made a final push up-hill (literally), kept them scoreless and reduced the margin to 12 points.

The final scores were Monbulk 5.8.38-Upwey/Tecoma 4.2.26.

We had many great passages of play, but I think difficulty in adapting to the ground and conditions proved to be our downfall.

We meet Monbulk again in round 14 at home- we will hope for a reversed result by then.

OLINDA UPWEY Under 16 The guys have had a tough start to the season playing a very strong Mt Evelyn team two weeks in a row.

After a reality check in round 1 the team bounced back with a much more physical game in round two, showing they can improve week by week.

Despite two big losses they have held their heads high and put in some big positive efforts at training and are looking forward to the twilight clash with Monbulk this week at Olinda.
