Steve Butler. executive director, ITS Instructional Services reached out to Facilities when excessive heat in the A/V booth at the SAC started causing expensive equipment to overheat and break. The A/V booth is used for live streaming during UTHSC events in the O.D. Larry Dining Hall. Currently, the dining hall is being used as the control center for UTHSC’s COVID-19 information awareness efforts, which means it’s of paramount importance that everything remain operational. The Facilities HVAC department sourced a powerful but quiet fan that draws cold air from the dining hall into the booth. They also modified the exhaust system so that the equipment heat would be captured at the source, before it could do any damage. Great job and thank you the facilities team members that worked on the project. Below are a few pictures from the project.

FACILITIES NEW NORMAL - COVID-19 IMPACTS OF COVID-19 A New Normal for Facilities

BIOMEDICAL DEPARTMENT Making Plexiglass Shields

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the campus of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in many ways. Facilities had to act quickly at the onset and do our part to keep the campus clean, safe, and functional. Kimberly Moore, assistant vice chancellor of facilities and Edwin Jeffres, interim director and superintendent of custodial services, recently had the opportunity to discuss recent challenges, successes, team support/collaboration and strategies on balancing the workload within facilities on a campus HR Zoom chat. Some of those impacts are spotlighted in pictures below. As a team, we have kept the projects and work going on campus. Employees have also been working remotely for months to ensure we close out the fiscal year end in the business office. We continue to maintain all while staying safe, ensuring the campus is clean and sanitary, employees have masks and supplies and most of all, keeping our own employees healthy and minimizing the number of cases within our team. Take a look at the many ways we’ve managed the many challenges during this new normal.

SPOTLIGHT ON HVAC, BOILER, PM DEPARTMENT Jesse Johnson, Interim HVAC Superintendent The HVAC, boiler operations, and preventive maintenance department at UTHSC are working around the clock to keep our buildings open and healthy. The boiler department is critical to UTHSC in providing building heat, hot water, and steam used for sterilization. The boiler department at UTHSC is working 24/7/365 and should be commended for their outstanding work. The HVAC department is working hard to keep building functions going during this difficult time. The HVAC and Preventative Maintenance crews are working as well to keep the A/C on and the air clean, given millions of square feet they have to keep in operation when every day presents new challenges. Great job to this team!
