The Most Consequential General Session in Years? Tax Cuts and Major Milestones For Utah’s Legislators - 2023 General Session Summary

The 2023 Utah General Session could go down as one of the most consequential in many years This year, your Utah Taxpayers Association took a position on and tracked 71 bills related to taxes and spending

We supported 29 of those bills

We opposed 26 of those bills

We were neutral on 17 bills

Legislature Sets Upcoming Budget for Fiscal Year 2024 - Adds Over $1 Billion in Ongoing Spending and Over $4 Billion in One-Time Spending

After weeks of presentations to Appropriations Committees and additional weeks of number crunching and negotiations, the Executive Appropriations Committee (EAC) unveiled the upcoming budget for fiscal year 2024 in the final days of the 2023 Legislative session As the dust settles, the EAC increased the ongoing budget by approximately $1 18 billion

Utah’s Tax Policy Response to Inflation

Inflation promises to continue to disrupt the economy over the next several years; however, Utah is better-equipped than most states to handle it Our flat tax rate and reasonable tax cuts, adjusting eligibility in response to inflation and our national-standard Truth in Taxation process all protect Utahns from some of the effects of inflation
