The Utah Taxpayer - December 2022 Upcoming Budget Surplus Continues To Swell Past Our Predicted $3 Billion And Counting As the Taxpayers Association predicted previously, the surplus has crested over the $3 billion mark and sits now at $3.331 billion. As Utah legislators approach the 2023 Legislative Session that will begin on January 18th, the pile of money the state of Utah has in surplus continues to swell and they will need to decide what to do with it.

Little Cottonwood Canyon Gondola – The Best Alternative for Taxpayers While there are many considerations to be made regarding Little Cottonwood Canyon, the most taxpayer-friendly solution of the alternatives currently being considered is clearly Gondola Alternative B. Although it has high initial costs, its ongoing costs are much lower than other options, and consequently represents a better deal for taxpayers. Read more here.

UAMPS Small Modular Nuclear Reactor Program Backed By Municipal Power Companies Continues to Falter After several Utah cities wisely decided to exit the UAMPS Small Modular Nuclear Reactor (SMR) Program two years ago, the remaining cities continued to put their ratepayers and taxpayers at risk while waiting for the next round of updates on the project. With the upcoming news that is likely to be made public in January 2023, now is the time for elected officials in UAMPS cities to sharpen their pencils,


carefully review the results of the ECT, exit the project and find another route for their long term power needs. Review our position here.

Congress Needs To Wake Up To Taxpayers Largest Tax Burden - Social Security - It Is Approaching A Breaking Point Social Security trust funds are projected to be exhausted by 2037. Continuing taxes would only be able to pay for around 76% of scheduled benefits. This will be an issue for Congress to address, and everyone who pays into this program or expects to benefit from it in retirement should be interested in the potential solutions.
