What is an Executive MBA? An Executive MBA (EMBA) is a type of accredited MBA program designed for working managers and professionals, typically with over ten years of work experience or prior management duties. The program allows students to work while they earn their degree.

Do I need to be an ‘executive’ before I enter the program? Actually, no! Although at least six years of work experience is required to apply, and many students are often entrepreneurs, small business owners, and C-level executives, aspiring mid and senior-level managers often account for most of the class.

How do Executive MBA programs differ from others? EMBA students continue to work while they study, are generally older, and average 13-16 years of work experience. Classes are held for the full day on Fridays and Saturdays, and the program places additional focus on applied learning, leadership, and a global mindset.

How important is program accredidation? In the U.S., accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International) is the gold standard. AACSB accreditation ensures the quality of the program’s faculty, curriculum, resources, and learning.

What are the benefits of an Executive MBA? • Access to a business school’s top faculty • An outstanding, senior-level peer group • Education with an executive perspective • Collaborative learning environment • Immediate workplace application • Increased confidence as a leader

How can an Executive MBA help me achieve my goals? Those pursuing an MBA at mid-career typically seek education as a career transition. An EMBA typically helps students: • Go from functional manager to general manager or executive • Move from manager to entrepreneur • Transfer from one company or industry to another

How can I fit this program into my busy schedule? • Class schedules typically require some “release time” from the employer and weekend/evening hours from the student. • Some work and study is conducted online or divided between group members. • Administrative tasks that normally fall to students are taken care of by program staff.

What support will I need from my employer? Most Executive MBA programs require an explicit statement of support from your employer, as they must agree to release time to allow you to participate in Friday classes during the work week. Some employers also provide financial support to cover some or all of the cost.

How much will an Executive MBA cost? Tuition for Utah’s EMBA is expected to be $93,000 - $96,000, covering career advancement services, networking events, meals, textbooks/materials, international travel, amenities, and more. Many students qualify for loans or scholarships.

How competitive is the admissions process? While admission committees consider work experience, current employment, prior education, leadership potential, and ability to contribute, many EMBA programs work with students before they even apply to ensure they are the right fit.
