NANCY GLOMB, Ph.D.

Commencement Speaker

A native "Jersey Girl," Nancy landed in Cedar City, Utah in 1980. As a 20-something special education teacher, she taught in a classroom-based program in the mornings and traveled to rural areas of central and southwest Utah in the afternoons to provide homebased services for children with disabilities and their families. She began her master’s in special education at USU in 1981, and went on to complete her Ph.D. in 1992.

After a few years as faculty in special education at Southern Utah University, Arizona State University, and James Madison University, Nancy returned to USU as a faculty member in the Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling. Her research focused on evaluating ways to engage students in the teacher education program in distance education programs when she became an administrator in USU's Statewide Campus system, and she returned to serving the communities in central and southwestern Utah that she deeply loves.

Nancy lives in Parowan, Utah (where she started back in 1980) with her husband Marty, horse Chloe (born at the USU horse barn in 2000), four cats, and the occasional rescue animal courtesy of her amazing son Alex.

LORNA OLSON

Commencement Speaker

Lorna Olson lives in Ephraim, Utah. She is a devoted wife and mother of six children, and grandmother of six precious grandchildren. She graduated with an applied business degree in 1992 from Snow College. Then a few years later, she returned to college as a young mother taking one or two classes at a time. It took 10 years, but she finished her bachelor's degree in family, human and consumer development only weeks before her last child was born in 2007. Two years ago, she felt the desire to return to college to get a master’s in rehabilitation counseling, again through the USU Statewide Campus system.

She thoroughly enjoys her work as a mental health counselor as well as serving as the director of the Ephraim City Housing Authority. Other things that fill her life with joy are hiking Utah's peaks with her husband, tending to her garden, reading good self-help books, and helping with the baby turkeys on the farm. Lorna plans to be a life-long learner and finds her greatest satisfaction in her relationships with God and her family.
