Dear Aggie Graduates,
I extend my warmest congratulations on your well-deserved accomplishment. Your graduation is an important milestone that marks a pivotal moment in your life. We share in your joy and know that the next chapters you write for your stories will be extraordinary.
Your dedication and perseverance have culminated in an achievement that is both personally and professionally transformative. The education you have earned is an enduring asset, a foundation for resilience and lifelong growth. It empowers you to navigate challenges with critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication—durable skills that will enrich your lives and contribute to your success.
As graduates of a land-grant university, you carry a special responsibility. You are stewards of knowledge, equipped to address the challenges facing our communities and our society. I challenge you to think broadly, to consider the ways in which your education can be applied to create positive change, to innovate, and to lead with integrity.
You are prepared for more than you might currently imagine. You have demonstrated wisdom in pursuing your education. And now, you are ready to apply your talents and insights in ways that will shape you personally and professionally. Lt. Gov. Deidre M. Henderson lives in Spanish Fork, Utah where she and her husband, Gabe, raised their five children.
In 2024, she was re-elected as Utah’s ninth lieutenant governor. During her first term in office, Lt. Gov. Henderson has been a leading voice for helping Utahns rejoin the workforce through the Return Utah program, bringing Utah’s history to the national stage, advocating for survivors of domestic violence, and instilling a culture of service in Utah’s youth.
Lt. Gov. Henderson’s dedication to public service is rooted in her belief in the power of civic responsibility. That dedication led her to serve two terms as a state senator before her time as lieutenant governor. A graduate of Brigham Young University with a degree in history, she is passionate about preserving Utah’s heritage while shaping a future grounded in opportunity and growth.
Lt. Gov. Henderson serves on the executive committee of the National Lieutenant Governors Association and is the chair of the Republican Lieutenant Governors Association.
ANTOINETTE “TONIE” DEE
Student Speaker
Antoinette (Tonie) Dee hails from Black Mesa, Arizona, but has spent the majority of her life in Monument Valley, Utah, which she regards as her true home. She is a member of the Todich'ii'nii (Bitter Water Clan) and is born for the Tł 'ízí Łání (Many Goats Clan). Her maternal grandfather is from the Nát'oh Dine'é Tachii'nii (Tobacoo People - Red Running Into the Water), while her paternal grandfather is from the Yei Dine'é’ Tachii'nii (Giant People - Red Running Into the Water). Together with her husband, Howard, she proudly raised three children.
Tonie earned a bachelor’s degree in family and consumer sciences from Brigham Young University, in addition to obtaining an English as a second language endorsement from the College of Eastern Utah. Her career in education spans 37 years as a family and consumer sciences teacher within the San Juan School District. Throughout her tenure, she became actively engaged with the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), a student organization dedicated to enhancing the FACS program, earning several prestigious awards at both state and national levels, including Master Adviser (2013), Adviser of the Year (2014), and the Integration of Core Academics Award (2015). Additionally, she was honored as the Outstanding Bilingual Educator in 1995. Currently, she is employed with Utah State University Blanding as an academic success mentor for the TRIO program. In her personal life, she enjoys reading, sewing for others, hiking, and spending quality time with her family.
