I Activities planned for ummer

Summer quarter is porbably called "opportunity " quarter for several different reasons. One good reason is that the student s have the opportunity to get away from the form al atmosphere of the other quarters and really relax.

Some 850 summer quarter courses , one of the largest offerings in the United States , according to Dr . E .H. Himes , summer quarter director , get underway tomorrow . An emphasis on a relaxed , fun, opportunity quarter is stressed by the summer quarter office but through workshops , seminars and colloquiums , they try to add an extra learning experience . Summer workshops at USU will provide information on such topics as agricultural education , high school journalism , vocational education , international folk dance , business education and aerospace education . Population studies, clothing and textiles , weight control and consumer experience seminars will all be held at USU this summer. Visiting professors , guest lecturers and members of the Utah State staff will participat e in these seminars . One of the highlights of the summ er program will be the Mathematics Colloquium Series to be held from June 28 to Aug. 17. Five internationally known professors , including Professor Rudolf Mossbauer , a Nobel Prize winner from Munich, Germany , will be featured . The major objective of the series is to present modern trend and applications of science and mathematics at a level which can be understood by a

Recreation and entertainment has also been planned for those attending summer school and their familie s. Traditional ice cream socials and watermellon busts are planned during the upcoming weeks . Also the UC movies ¡held during the regular school year will continue throughout the summer. Summer quart er gives the theatre department a chance to produce several productions during the three months . This year "Hay F ever, " "The Deadly Game " and "The Odd Couple" will presented at the Old Lyric Repertory Theatre . In addition a Reader 's Theatre featuring work of D.H. Lawrence will be held on Jun e 23, in the FAC. Over 15,000people came to the Utah Stat e campu s last summ er for classes , se minars , workshops a nd special features.

Bookstore shortens hours The bookstore will be closed on Saturdays beginning June 12, Dean Haslam , bookst ore manager, has announced. It will continue with this procedure for the remainder
