Machine translators x real translators About culture Differently of a human translator, a machine can’t understand culture. They just don’t have the complexity to know or recognize slang, idioms and in some cases names. This is a challenge that machines have never been able to overcome and it will be very difficult for them too. However, native incountry speakers who get to know all the idioms and slang the culture has to offer are skilled enough to find suitable equivalents in the target languages.
About context In the different languages, there are many words with dual meanings and this can be a significant problem for the machine translators. The words must be related to context to help to define their meanings and, again, only a human translator can do it. As an example: the word “tears”, in English, could refer to holes in a bag or an action of tearing something. It could also mean the tears when someone is sad.
