Editor in Chief | Transcend Daily
Hi readers!
Welcome to the first official issue of Transcend Daily! We have four (4) issues for this Academic Year as we have decided to incorporate the seasons as themes autumn, winter, spring, and summer. In this Autumn issue, we highlighted events from the first day of the Academic Year 2021 2022 until the month of October. We were surprised by the amount of events we had in the past three months. Personally, I will never notice them if it were not for Transcend Daily. This issue is jam packed with CTHM Student Council events from CTHM students' awards and achievements to other interesting developments You see, we are used to just existing and letting time pass by We do not even realize how much we have grown, how much we have achieved, and even how much time we have left for the year 2021 Do you realize we only have more than a month left before the end of the year? For sure you have surpassed a lot this year (and I’m proud of you). This year has been hard for most of us. But just like autumn, we fall in so many ways, so many times. But that doesn’t mean that it’s the end. Autumn is the season of falling to give way to something beautiful, right? Life may bring us down, and if it’s time to fall, let the fall be the beginning of a new life , a new experience. We might as well dance on our way down.
We created Transcend Daily not just to showcase events and projects of the Student Council, but also to make you feel that your achievements are appreciated and valued. To all the CTHM students featured in this issue, I hope you are proud to see yourself here, because we are I can’t wait to see more of you and a lot of new faces for the next issue
We are preparing a lot for you, stay tuned!
Go beyond the limits, Rise above your capabilities, Transcend every trial coming your way, TRANSCEND DAILY, CTHM!
With love, Beanne Faula C. Santos

THE COLLEGE of Tourism and Hospitality Management Student Council (CTHMSC) recently aired a podcast to relive the experiences of its students prior to the implementation of flexible learning
The podcast titled, “Buhay CTHM,” which was organized by CTHMSC Secretary Mark Terence Cruz was viewed via YouTube live.
“[This] podcast can become an avenue for the students to manage the stress and remember their CTHM identity by listening to inspiring speakers,” Cruz said in an interview with Transcend Daily
CTHM seniors Asha Lovilla and Jonsandae Pascua emphasized the importance of “hug culture” in UST where students randomly hug their colleagues to give comfort
“[‘Yun] nakakapag boost up ng confidence mo [at] ‘yun ‘yung nagbibigay ng motivation sa’yo especially kapag mag isa ka lang sa dorm mo,” Pascua said
“[“[The] hug culture of UST is very contagious [ ] [during] SHS (Senior High School), hindi naman ako ma hug at medyo ilag ako n’on but the culture grew on me immediately,” Lovilla said in an interview with Transcend Daily.
The hug culture was also featured in CandyMag com in a 2020 article wherein Thomasians were interviewed about the concept and importance of the said unique campus culture
“As Thomasians, we’ve been known as resilient kasi kahit bumabaha, lumilindol, hell weeks, and everything, patuloy pa rin lumalaban karamihan sa atin so I guess, the hug culture is a small act of [a] Thomasian to comfort or relay a message na ‘Kaya mo ‘yan’ or ‘I'm always here,’"Lovilla added.
Aside from the mentioned culture, Garcia anticipated to ably “produce events in a sensible setting ”
The second segment of the podcast, titled “Living in the Moment,” talked about the necessary adjustments done to uniform oneself to the implementation of flexible learning
“Siyempre, while in a home setup, it is easier to get distracted [with] all the noise,” Bondoc said
“Accept the situation and make the most out of it by setting a routine and [setting up] a dedicated workplace,” she added Bondoc said that Notion, an organizing application, aided her hectic struggles by allocating “proper time management and sufficient rest "
Garcia also stated the importance of quality time with family members and friends, as “they are the ones keeping you sane” amid a stressful environment
“My routine consists of alarming 30 minutes before classes so that you can have a clear mind [ ] and have time for yourself Iwasang buksan ang phone," Lovilla added.
Lovilla emphasized the importance of being with friends, family members, and oneself The two podcasts were aired last October 25 and December 3, 2021 and the last one will be on February 11, 2022 JUSTIN LIM

BLIP CENTERS ON ANTIDISCRIMINATION AND COMPASSION
Anti discrimination and compassion were the topics spotlighted in the second episode of Being Left in a Phase (BLIP)
Ms Amber Gonzales Quiban, a student from the University of the Philippines Diliman, was the guest speaker of the podcast which aired on Oct 20
Ms Quiban was a part of the Philippine Anti Discrimination Alliance of Youth Leaders since 2017 and was always outspoken about discrimination, gender equality, and empowerment.
She was a former Political Science student but the discrimination she experienced forced her to leave the program.
“Worth it ba ‘tong ginagawa natin if at the end of the day sobrang stretched in na ng ating mental stability?; if at the end of the day, hindi na natin alam kung para kanino ba natin ginagawa ‘tong mga bagay na to?,” she stated.
Remedios said that these are the reasons why we “must be compassionate and understanding during these trying times ”
“It costs nothing to be kind, considerate, and understanding to the people around us,” Ms Quiban stated
She also mentioned the need to normalize compassion
Babst said, “It’s really all about compassion at the end of the day ”
THOMASIAN

The United Nations World Tourism Organization Academy officially opened its Student's League competition challenge for travel and tourism students worldwide last May 17, 2021 The UNWTO Student’s League provided online training sessions that gave the global student teams insights on Tourism Destination Marketing best practices in this field
The THOMASIAN SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) Keepers, a team who represented the University of Santo Tomas (UST) College of Tourism and Hospitality Management in the said contest bagged the 5th place among the 65 competing schools globally. The team consisted of Mary Maureen Cucio, Mark Endrinal, Floresca May Martin, Tiffany Montances, Gershei Mae K Quirao, Al Reile Dela Torre from 4TOM3 to 4TOM8,
The team conceptualized a virtual discussion to aid in the development of a tourism marketing plan for TENANI’s stakeholders: Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 8, the Municipality of Paranas, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Tour Guides and Boat Operators for River Protection and Environmental Development Organization, and TENANI Association for Women and Development
The NWTO competition aims to foster creative, innovative, and sustainable solutions to pressing challenges concerning the tourism sector, and such solutions must be developed in accordance with the SDGs TIFFANY B. MONTANCES
IN THE last episode of the B L I P podcast, Mr John Micko Pazcoguin, an instructor from the Department of Psychology in the College of Science, highlighted the importance of validating all feelings and raising awareness on mental health to end the stigma on the topic
in terms of how we deal with our thoughts, feelings and behaviors,” he stated
He added, “We need to check first our [privileges because] hindi kayo pare parehas in terms of the environment [you live in] ”
During this pandemic, he considers webinar as the most effective way in bringing awareness about mental health.
“‘Yung mga simpleng pag share niyo [in social media] ng mga infographics and video clips concerning mental health, it really matters,” he stated
“My mental health suffered and it spiraled down the drain,” she said as she shared her encounter with a transphobic professor She took a leave of absence because she felt the need for time to compose herself and find where she wants to go

“We’re in the same storm right now but not in the same boat,” Remedios added.
For Ms Quiban, “It’s okay to not be okay when things are out of your control and you just feel so lost ”
“Since we’re not experiencing the same hardships, I think it’s very unfair for us to discriminate against people who have life a little bit harder. She mentioned how a lot of students have been suffering from worsened mental health problems and isolation amidst the pandemic.
“It’s okay to not be okay kasi ang [pagdaramdam], ang pagkakaroon ng damdamin ay pagiging isang tao ”
“What’s not okay is when we keep our feelings inside us and normalize self torture [and] self pity ”
He said that it matters to cultivate a safe space for people “to say or verbalize their thoughts and feelings ”
He mentioned that we should not compare our situations to others because all of us are different on how we adjust to our stressors
“We do have differences
He said that we do not need to always give advice and what matters is “kailangan mo lang samahan ‘yung tao na ‘yun kasi kailangan niya ng makakausap ” Mr Pazcoguin also stated the need to instill a sense of empathy
In fighting mental health stigma, he said, “It’s all about how we educate them Awareness is the key in order for them to find out the truth ”
He added that educating and advocating on mental health is not enough because there is also a need to “apply what you have learned ”
He mentioned “time management, taking a break, and doing self care strategies” as coping mechanisms
