College of Science previously known as the College of Liberal Arts was established in 1926. It initially provided four year degree programs in science and arts. In 2003, Computer Science, Information Technology, and Information Management programs shifted to the Faculty of Engineering. Moreover, ever sensitive to the demands of modern technology, the Bachelor of Science in Biology program branched out in three specializations: Industrial Biology, Environmental Biology, and Medical Biology. This year, the Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Analytics (BS DSA) program was co offered with the College of Information and Computing Sciences.
Furthermore, the College of Science continues to equip its students with the necessary knowledge and abilities in shaping them into qualified and all - around professionals, exemplary in their Christian faith similar to its patron saint St. Albert the Great as well as fosters their capabilities in the particular areas of their professional responsibility; motivated and confident enough to actively participate in the formulation of decisions involving matters of Science, Technology, and Society.
Finally, it caters to four degrees - conferring departments namely Department of Biological Sciences (Biology and Microbiology), Applied Math and Physics, Chemistry, and Psychology.

One thing about math is that there would really be a time (even just once!) wherein you would have the urge to ask questions If that urge comes, please ask away There is no shame in asking questions, it only shows that you are very much willing to learn Don’t be discouraged if you cannot do mental computations.
One stereotype that people tend to label us as math majors is that we could easily solve math problems mentally. This is to inform you that it’s not the case! There are a lot of us seniors who prefer manual pen and paper computations rather than mental ones because it’s just safer that way Remember that math is about accuracy and not just speed
34
Math is not a spectator sport!
You can’t learn effectively if you just watch and listen The most efficient way of learning how to solve specific problems is by practicing it until you grasp the optimal solution to a problem Writing it down helps in developing muscle memory to answer exams and assessments more easily! Resting and sleeping is essential. Studying for countless hours without having breaks is definitely a big no Try incorporating the Pomodoro Technique into your study habit for it definitely helps your brain in absorbing and retaining information
Never hesitate to ask questions.

Take rests whenever you can.
This is the most important one! You cannot function properly without taking enough rest. Your body will eventually give up at some point and take a break for you
Contribute efficiently in EVERY group work. May it be a small or big task, always coordinate with your peers more so when it’s your friends We all have our own personal responsibilities, most especially in this kind of setup
Avoid situational procrastination.
Inform your group mates whether you would be able to contribute or not and if not, the least you can do is tell them ahead of time and do better on the next activity.
Even though the professor would give out copies of the learning materials, it is also important to jot down details during the lecture itself It’s easier to review when topics are explained in a less technical manner (emphasis on the majors!).
From your professor, from your seniors, or from your blockmates You may not know it yet, but there will always be people who will be ready to lend their hand Who knows, they might also be needing help and you can study together instead Group study!
No matter how tempting it is to think of how much free time you have and push the items on your to do list at a later time, wouldn’t it be more fulfilling if you finish all your tasks ahead of time and spend the day freely? Props if it’s a weekend!
In this kind of setup, we all feel lonely at some point. Discord calls, messenger calls, or any platform you prefer! It is advantageous to acquire different sets of learnings from your peers as it may help you understand the lesson easier You can also quiz each other!
Surround yourself with the right people. You may feel happy with a certain group of people and think they’re the best, but they may not help bring you up Surround yourself with the people who will motivate you and accomplish tasks with you. College life would be much easier!
Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
As student chemists, we may think that we have less math, but in reality everything we do actually involves problem solving, solutions, and the like 35
Take notes during lectures!
A calculator and a periodic table should be within your reach at all times!

Find your support group. Collaborate with blockmates/friends.
I found it very convenient when I listed the things I need to accomplish, deadlines, meetings, etc This will be very useful to keep track of your progress in academics/orgs and to easily monitor how your week/month is going Tip for us: Let’s do our best to not commit planning fallacy Always have time to rest/have a ‘me’ time. Sleep if you must!
One of the things that I want to emphasize is to have a proper rest Studying will be very tiring, but rest is just as important as working. Just remember that ‘you won’t be able to function at your best if you don’t have a proper rest’ Personally, if I’m reviewing for hours already and feel tired, I really take a quick nap or sleep (and just wake up early) It’s because I know I won’t be able to retain any information if I just keep on pushing myself while being sleepy
My fingers are not enough to count how many reportings we did during our whole Psych journey Even at first year, you would already be asked to report so prepare yourself well The key here is to know your report and to trust yourself (as you made the report yourself!) Make it an avenue to strengthen your communication skills and to learn from your professors Don’t worry as you will eventually get the hang of it.
I find it very helpful if I review with my friends, especially when we ask each other questions Practice together especially if you have an upcoming recitation/exam Different ideas will also be laid out if you collaborate with others, making it a great avenue for learning Make a to do list/schedule and try to stick with it!
Studying is tiring and joining organizations was helpful because it gave me a different environment; it was what I needed to grow holistically. I also met people from other programs which enabled me to widen my network. Finally, I was able to apply some of the things I learned in my courses to real life situations so it was really a great experience!
36
Do not be afraid to ask. Remember that we are college students so learning is vital Asking questions is not an easy thing to do especially if you are not used to it but if you wouldn’t do it, you wouldn’t be able to get past the confusion. People in UST, especially in Psych are understanding and very willing to help! Your seniors are also one message away so don’t hesitate to reach out if ever you have any questions. Join organizations!
Make reading a habit. Psychology as a program is HEAVY on readings starting from first year until fourth year (especially when you start your thesis) Some might be hard to absorb but most books are interesting as they include real life situations so you could better understand it Additional tip: if you can do advanced reading, the better! Be ready for reporting/talking in front of a crowd!

37
Make sure your schedule is balanced between study and rest.
This is very common advice but extremely important! This program is very demanding in terms of tasks, so dividing work and breaks into manageable chunks throughout the day would prevent burnouts and give better results Forcing your exhausted self to finish an activity won’t end in a good mark It is better to rest and recharge when you need it
Your questions may sound “dumb” but I assure you it’s okay! We are students; thus, we are still learning and we can’t acquire new knowledge if we are too afraid to clarify something Wag mag assume! It’s better to be certain about your lessons than overthinking what information is true or not Participate in class and recitations. Again, it’s okay if you answered the recitation incorrectly There’s no shame in that At least you tried! And to be honest, these recitations are actually the ones that stick to you, which will be of great help in quizzes or exams Be comfortable working in groups, even in groups you don’t like.
Do not be afraid to ask questions to your professors.
Our courses, both lecture and lab, require us to memorize so much knowledge and information So, it would greatly help you to have an efficient memorization technique that works best for you! Take chemistry courses seriously! It's important that you try your best to understand your lessons right from the start This is because all the following lessons and chemistry courses will be built on the foundations built during our organic chemistry courses in the first year You’re going right into the deep end with organic chemistry first, so take this course into heart! Don’t be afraid to ask for help from your professors, blockmates, or fellow biology students. Everyone is willing to help in the learning process Plus, you will absorb information better by discussing what you know with others and by getting other opinions Remember, we are always here for you! Don’t forget that we, the higher years, are always ready to listen to your rants and stuff Just approach us Mabait po kami!
Start an efficient studying routine as early as now. We can’t stress this enough! Developing study habits that work best for you will help in the long run as subjects get even more grueling as you go up the biology ladder.
In reality, you don’t get to choose your team So it is better that you practice this during college When working in groups you should be respectful about the task distribution and speak up if you have issues or clarifications about it If you are the group leader, delegate the tasks properly and be approachable so that you can all work efficiently Read your lessons in advance! This may sound tiring because it is but it really helps You don’t need to fully understand the lesson, but at least you have a brief idea about the topic This really helps in a way that you’ll only need to focus on things you find hard to understand while you're reading and it keeps you active in class which prevents you from dozing off Be prepared to memorize a lot of things.

Recently, the UST College of Science Student Council's Center for Student Services, also known as Sciger's Hub Online, has been launched during the academic year 2021–2022 and is still catering to the student body's necessities until present. The website contains up-to-date announcements and direct links to the council's services such as the Feedbox, Adversity Response, Student Assistance Help Desk, and other college services. Aside from that, it also contains downloadble documents frequently asked by the students, as well as a summary of all the necessary contact information within the college and the university. You may visit the website here: https://ustcssc.wixsite.com/scigershub
The UST College of Science Student Council (UST CSSC), the primary student governing body of all bonafide students of the UST College of Science, is a democratic and student led organization that dedicates itself in recognizing the rights and participation of every student in activities pertaining to their interests and welfare.
