LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear Members of the United States Swim School Association,
e USSSA’s commitment to continuous learning and professional growth sets us apart and drives our success.

One of our Core Values is being Lifelong Learners. As members we are constantly seeking new knowledge and skills to better ourselves and our swim schools.

While there are many conferences and educational opportunities available, USSSA stands out for it’s unique blend of professional development and shared commitment to excellence. Our events are not just about learning, they are about forming connections, exchanging ideas, and growing together as a community of professionals.

First, I want to mention my two favorite events: the Spring Workshop and the National Conference. A valuable tip I learned from former Board of Director’s President, the late Tyler Brewer, is to stay an extra day after the conference to review notes and prioritize takeaways. He advised that once you get home, it’s easy to fall back into your routine and forget to revisit your notes and everything you learned. Taking the time to gather your thoughts and reflect the day after the conference makes you more likely to follow through on your idea. The first time I did this, Carrie Demont and I sat by the pool, discussing our biggest takeaways and what we planned to implement. It was one of my favorite days! You can read a bit more about why I love the conferences in the “Getting to Know Your BOD” article of this magazine.

One of the most rewarding aspects of these events is the opportunity to connect with fellow members. Many of us have formed lasting friendships over the years, and it’s often during informal moments—whether at dinners or at the bar—where some of the best sharing happens.

In addition to our in-person events, we have also made significant strides in our online learning content. Our dedicated Committees have worked tirelessly to develop comprehensive programs for courses such as Preschool, Infant Toddler, and Special Abilities courses. These resources are designed to provide continuous learning opportunities and to support the diverse needs of our members and the families they serve.

Finally, the Certified Fundamental Swim Instructor Certification. This certification represents a significant milestone in our commitment to excellence in swim instruction. It provides a structured pathway for instructors to enhance their skills, ensuring that they are well-equipped to teach swimming effectively and safely.

Let’s continue to embrace the spirit of Lifelong Learning. Together, we can achieve great things and make a lasting impact on the world of learn to swim.

Thank you for your dedication and passion. Hope I see you in Vegas!!!

BUFFY FOLISE

FROM THE DESK OF THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

You hear the term lifelong learner used often, but what does that really mean?

According to Dictionary.com the definition of lifelong learning is “the provision or use of both formal and informal learning opportunities throughout people’s lives in order to foster the continuous development and improvement of the knowledge and skills needed for employment and personal fulfillment.” I find it interesting to note, it’s about a combination of both formal and informal learning. Lifelong learning is not just about going to college or taking courses, it’s about staying curious, embracing new challenges, and continuously seeking to enhance your skills and knowledge.

USSSA offers a number of opportunities for swim school owners, managers, and swim instructors to embrace lifelong learning, from events like our National Conference, to our Certified Fundamental Swim Instructor (CFSI), to our mentor program, to the new book club being formulated, you have numerous opportunities to be curious and enhance your skills.

And speaking of book club, did you know that being a regular reader can actually result in more money in your pocket? According to Sales & Marketing Executives International, those who read at least 7 business books per year earn more money. In fact, they earn 2.3 times more than people who only read one book per year. Be sure to check out the article in this issue that highlights some of our members’ favorite business books to help get you started on your reading journey.

And we hope to see many of you this fall learning from keynote speakers, industry experts, as well as from the peer learning opportunities planned at our National Conference in Las Vegas, NV. Be sure to visit our website to get all the details, book your hotel, and register for the conference.

As a swim school owner, committing to lifelong learning is a strategic investment in your business’s future. It empowers you to lead effectively, innovate continually, and provide unparalleled service to your clients. In an industry where the currents of change are constant, lifelong learning is your buoy, keeping you afloat and steering you toward success. Embrace it, and watch your swim school thrive.

PROPEL YOUR SWIM SCHOOL TOWARD EXCELLENCE: EMBRACE LIFELONG LEARNING

DIVE INTO NEW CURRENTSTHE POWER OF CONTINUOUS LEARNING

One of the greatest legacy gifts my mother gave me was a love for lifelong learning! Because of that, I’ve been able to connect and grow with leaders in the swim industry for decades. Attending workshops and conferences amps up leadership skills, sparks fresh ideas, and levels up business operations. By diving into new knowledge, swim schools spark a wave of change that elevates staff, levels up student learning, keeps parents in the loop, and raises community awareness.

Tony Robbins emphasizes, “Knowledge is not power, it’s potential power. Execution trumps knowledge.” The true essence of wisdom lies in applying what we learn, making us better leaders and educators, and allowing us to make a lasting impact.

USSSA: SETTING THE STANDARD IN SWIM EDUCATION EXCELLENCE

The USSSA Education Committee collaborates with passionate industry leaders to create awesome resources for swim instructors. Our mission is to deliver top-notch information that positively impacts the “Learn to Swim” community. Educated parents and well-trained instructors are essential to combining water safety with enjoyment in the aquatic classroom.

The USSSA’s Preschool Course, developed over five years, is a gamechanger that reduces onboarding costs and ensures uniform quality education.

This investment empowers staff with the tools necessary to excel and solidifies your school’s reputation as a leader in safety and quality, creating a brighter future for your business and students.

For further expertise, the USSSA offers the Certified Fundamental Swim Instructor (CFSI) certification. This certification represents a commitment to excellence and high standards set by the USSSA.

3 THINGS YOU CAN DO RIGHT NOW TO INCREASE YOUR PRODUCTIVITY, POPULARITY & VALUE

It seems a lot of people are asking the same questions these days…
How can I better my nancial situation? How can I increase my ability to connect with people and nd lasting and ful lling relationships? How can I nd peace, joy and contentment in my life?

Isn’t it interesting how even though fashion, music, communication methods and cultural icons are always in a state of change, our deepest desires seem to remain somewhat unaffected and untouched? So, what actions do we incorporate and what steps do we take that can lead us to the answers of these universal questions? Well, there may be many, but here are three that you can do right now that aren’t difficult at all.

1. READ FIVE PAGES OF A GOOD, POSITIVE BOOK EACH DAY. Now, even though they may be great for relaxation and fun, Harlequin romance novels and comic books don’t apply in this instance. On the contrary, make it a book that develops you as a person… one that stimulates your mind and increases your knowledge. There are a number of great authors out there who have written content just for that purpose. Experiment and ask questions of friends and family who are avid readers of self-help books.

This small action may seem insignificant until you do the math. Reading just 5 pages of a good book each day for 365 days will lead you to have read 1,825 pages in one year. That’s equivalent

to reading about 10 books. The knowledge and inspiration to which you will have exposed your mind will have an enormous impact on you and the people around you.

2. MAKE YOUR ATTITUDE EACH DAY BE REFLECTED IN THE QUESTION,“HOW CAN I MAKE SOMEONE’S LIFE BETTER TODAY?” Now, I know this goes against everything our “it’s all about me” society has adopted, but when you survey the greatest and most impactful people in the history of our country you will quickly notice that this is the question they all learned to ask and answer. Here are some examples:

• Sam Walton – Walmart

• Ray Kroc – McDonald’s

• Steve Jobs – Apple

• Phil Knight – Nike

These individuals learned to take their ideas and impact the lives of people all over the world. Likewise, any individual who wishes to achieve lasting success must adopt the philosophy of not “what’s in it for me?” but instead “what’s in it for them?”This same idea can be

implemented into businesses, families and even personal relationships. The most pleasant person to be around is the person who makes us feel good about ourselves…the person who listens to us and is genuinely interested in what we think is important. It takes a conscience effort and some practice to put this idea into practice, but the payoff is priceless. When we make life better for others we inevitably make life better for ourselves as well.

3. SPEND FOUR MINUTES EACH DAY IN REFLECTION…TWO MINUTES IN THE MORNING AND TWO MINUTES AT NIGHT. This seems too easy to make any sizable impact but on the contrary, the impact it brings can be immeasurable. Just taking time each morning and each evening to reflect upon what we are thankful for…the relationships with our kids, our family, our friends and our creator can go a long way in reducing

(908)889-4242 | info@aquamentor.com

our stress levels but in also reminding us of why we do what we do and what is truly important to us. It is so easy to get “caught up” in reacting to life’s situations that we tend to forget to enjoy the moment. Taking time to reflect on the positive things in our lives and the moments we experience every day can be instrumental in all aspects of our health and well-being. Likewise, it can help increase our productivity as we are reminded of the road we have traveled and also the one before us.

So if these things are so easy to do, what stops us from doing these and other activities that require very little effort but produce significant benefits? Unfortunately, sometimes things that are “easy to do” are also “easy not to do.” It is easy to put them off because the results, good or bad, do not show up immediately. Everything reveals itself through time.

“Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have, and only you can determine how it will be spent …”

8 EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT IDEAS TO TRY WITH YOUR TEAM

Employee engagement is a measure of how much employees are invested in their work and the organization. Engaged employees:

• Display higher productivity.

• Display higher levels of workplace satisfaction.

• Are less likely to quit.

An employee engagement strategy is well worth an investment of time and resources as engaged employees are the foundation for a strong, thriving business. We’re sharing 8 proven employee engagement ideas to help inspire you and your team.

EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT IDEAS

There are many ways to engage employees and strengthen your workforce; there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. The following employee engagement ideas can help you start crafting your own engagement strategies.

Continued on next page...

1. Let employees be problem solvers. Employees feel more engaged when they can play an important role in the workplace, especially if they can be problem solvers. Avoid the temptation to fix all problems in the workplace on your own.

Ask your employees for ideas and engage them in conversation as you try to decide how to solve organizational, operational, or strategic problems facing your workplace. Make a committee or hold a staff meeting to talk about issues and give your employees a chance to step up and be a part of the solution

There’s a bonus benefit for managers and business owners here as well. When you allow your employees the opportunity to tackle problems in your business, you can identify the future leaders on your team and where their strengths lie. When you give your highperforming employees the freedom to innovate, they can help your business grow in ways you might not even see yet.

2. Support professional development. Our research has shown that professional development opportunities are one of the most desired benefits of a workplace, and many employees will leave a company to seek them out. Employees that feel you are invested in their growth as professionals and individuals will be more motivated and loyal to your company.

Some ways to support your employees’ development:

•Help them set and reach goals related to skills they want to learn and how they want to progress in their career.

•Map out a “growth plan” or career track with them and help them visualize how to get to the next level.

•Set aside funds for your employees to use for education and growth opportunities like online courses, seminars, books, etc.

3. Set aside time for team-building days separate from daily work.

Try setting aside time to get your staff away from their desks – or the sales floor, or the showroom, or the kitchen, etc. The goal is to pull employees out of their day-to-day work activities and allow enough time for them to unwind, get to know their co-workers in an informal setting, and build trust through familiarity.

That’s not to say that team-building days should be one non-stop party. You can provide structure with activities like:

•An icebreaker exercise or game to help loosen people up

• A sit-down meal (plus, let’s be honest: people love free food)

•An overview of upcoming strategic plans for the business

• Problem-solving sessions

If possible, engage in a team-building day at least once every year. Even one annual team-building day fosters bonding and camaraderie and can pay dividends for your company culture long after the day ends.

4. Create a plan to solicit feedback from employees.

As a manager, you’re used to delivering feedback to your employees on a regular basis. It’s just as important to ask for their feedback in return.

A good place to start is during any regularly scheduled one-on-one meetings with your team. Get into the habit of ending these meetings by asking questions like:

•Is there anything I’m doing that you think I should change?

•What would you do differently?

•How can I help you be more productive? What obstacles can I remove for you?

•What should the business be focusing on that we’re not focused on currently?

Regularly asking employees these questions increases their awareness and reminds them to be on the lookout for opportunities to offer helpful feedback for the business. And most importantly – when the feedback is constructive, be willing to accept it and make a plan to act on it.

You can also give employees a way to regularly provide feedback through employee surveys.Pulse surveys are short, frequent surveys where employees can provide insight into how they’re doing and if they have what they need to do their jobs effectively.

5. Create a working environment where employees feel comfortable. As a business owner or manager, it’s up to you to make your working environment clean, safe, and comfortable. If possible, give employees a break room or space where they can go to relax. If costs allow, consider offering free snacks or drinks at work. It’s also important to make sure that everyone has what they need to do their job effectively.

And since no one is more comfortable than at home, if it’s possible for your business consider offering hybrid work where employees can work from home occasionally. Studies show that hybrid work can help improve productivity and increase employee satisfaction.

6. Recognize their individual achievements.

Recognizing employees for achievements is one of those things that all managers know they should be doing, but it can often take a backseat to a variety of more day-to-day business matters. So it helps to make a plan for how you’re going to recognize your employees. After all, showing appreciation is a no-cost employee engagement strategy!

Performance reviews are an excellent opportunity to praise your employees for good work and effort. Keep notes on each employee, including good ideas they had, times when they went above and beyond, and anything they did that contributed to the team. Citing specific examples of good performance can help your employee feel more valued overall.

Don’t just save your appreciation for performance reviews, though. Show your gratitude by sending an encouraging email or thanking them for how they handled a tough project or challenging customer. High-performing employees want their work to be noticed by leadership – and you owe them frequent reminders of appreciation if you expect them to stay engaged on your team for the long haul.

One last thing: Whenever possible, make sure to deliver your gratitude publicly (as long as the employee is comfortable with public displays of appreciation) in addition to doing so in private. For big accomplishments especially, remember to celebrate your employees in front of their peers.

7. Support your employees’ health and wellness.

Your employee’s mental and physical health is important, and impacts every area of their lives – including their work life. All too often, employees become disengaged and even quit jobs, because they are stressed, burnt-out, or are struggling with poor physical health.

Encouraging employee health and wellness shows that you care about them as a person, not just an employee. Here are a few ideas you might try:

• Provide health insurance benefits, including coverage for mental health.

•Offer a monthly wellness stipend that employees can use for things like gym memberships or massages.

•Host wellness events that get the whole team involved. For example, CareerPlug hosts an annual wellness challenge, where employees earn points for checking off different activities like journaling or going on a walk.

• Provide educational opportunities for employees like workshops on nutrition, financial wellness, work-life balance, etc.

8. Help employees buy in to your mission and values

Ideally, when hiring new employees, you focus your hiring process on finding someone that can not only do the job, but is also aligned with your core values and purpose. If someone resonates with your values and mission they are more likely to be motivated by it.

Make your values prominent and important. Make sure that your company lives its values in how decisions are made. When you fall down (which you inevitably will) make sure that you acknowledge it and keep realigning with your values so that your employees see that you mean what you say.

Employees that are dedicated to your mission will commit to helping you achieve it long term and will feel more engaged with the work they do daily.

EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT IDEAS FROM GREAT COMPANIES

CareerPlug encourages team members to celebrate each other

One fun way that CareerPlug incorporates positive feedback and celebrating achievements is through weekly “shout-outs” during our company-wide meeting. Employees take the time to shout each other out and tie winning moments back to our core values. This is a great way to help coworkers feel seen for their contributions, and encourages an “attitude of gratitude” at the company.

Google’s

80/20 rule

Have you heard about Google’s 80/20 innovation model? This tech giant supports employee engagement in a unique way: They encourage employees to spend 80% of their time on “core projects” and the other 20 on an activity that they are personally interested in or passionate about. This helps encourage innovation and has produced great results for the company – it even led to the creation of gmail!

Nvidia

supports life outside of work

This large tech company goes above and beyond when it comes to supporting their employees through major life events. They have a generous parental leave policy and offer reimbursements for adoption and surrogacy expenses. They also provide employees with resources and programs to help navigate other stressful circumstances like planning for college, going through a divorce, and moving.

SWIM SCHOOL TRENDS ON THE RISE: FINDINGS FROM THE 2024 INDUSTRY BENCHMARK REPORT

When the Jackrabbit team compiled and analyzed data from swim schools worldwide for the 2024 Swim School Industry Benchmark Report, certain rising trends were noticed. As a swim school owner, here are ve trends you should be aware of when planning for and heading into the remainder of the 2024 season.

5 SWIM SCHOOL TRENDS ON THE RISE

Leverage Big Data and Analytics

Swim schools require deeper reporting and data analytics tools to make informed decisions for everything from class schedules to marketing strategies. In response to that need, tools such as Business Intelligence Dashboards have gained popularity when reporting on multi-site and franchise swim schools. With the assistance of business intelligence functionality, more schools will be able to:

• make informed decisions on class schedules, pricing, staffing, and marketing strategies,

• create targeted marketing plans and retention strategies during peak enrollment and drop periods, and

• consider special promotions or loyalty programs for year-round enrollment.

Continued on next page...

ENHANCE DIGITAL TOOLS AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT

The 2024 Swim School Industry Benchmark Report showed a high use of Jackrabbit Swim’s digital features, such as live streaming with Spot TV, custom-branded mobile apps, Self Check-In, and other self-service functionality for customers in the Parent Portal.

Utilizing digital tools to enhance customer engagement and their experience has been a trend on the rise for years. Now, swim schools are seeing digital tools as a requirement for customers - they are no longer a nice-to-have.

To enhance the way you’re using digital tools at your swim school, focus on improving your online registration processes, mobile app and text communication, and offering one-of-a-kind services like live streaming to increase accessibility for families.

STRENGTHEN YOUR BRAND AND TARGET MARKET

Understanding the age makeup of your student base has been a trend since the inaugural Industry Benchmark Report was published in 2021. Now the trend is optimizing your swim school’s marketing initiatives to ensure your brand image is appealing to your target market.

MAINTAIN OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY

A top finding from the Swim School Industry Benchmark Report was seasonality variability and the distinct seasonal patterns in swim school enrollment peaks and valleys. To see continued growth and success, swim schools will need to adjust to operational efficiency trends by:

• optimizing class scheduling, timing, and staffing to what’s trending at your organization,

• monitor and adjust staffing and compensation in response to business needs and market conditions, and

• explore flexible staffing models for cost-effective operations.

EVALUATE PRICING STRATEGIES

Operational costs increased across all youth activities businesses. In response, there are growing trends to: monitor tuition increases and their impact on customer enrollments and retention; adjust pricing strategies for affordability and profitability; and refine customer-friendly policies and payment protocols that secure business interests.

Read the 2024 Swim School Industry Benchmark Report to take a deep dive into the data and see how your business measures up against others in the industry. The key takeaways, trends, and additional insights you can find in the benchmark report will give you ideas on how to make this year your best yet.

SWIMMER EXPECTATIONS AND TECHNIQUES FOR OUR FUTURE CHAMPIONS

ABOUT LAURIE LAWRENCE:

Laurie’s learn to swim philosophies are the product of more than 50 years of successful swim techniques and coaching achievements. This includes 10 gold, 11 silver and 12 bronze medals from swimmers he assisted at Olympic level. As a result, the Australian Olympic Committee make Laurie an integral part of the Australian team at all Olympic Games between 1996 and 2012.

The culmination of decades of experience in the swimming industry has lead Laurie to create World Wide Swim School an online training and learning platform for Swim Schools and their teachers. Get more information here and save https://worldwideswimschool. com/swim-schools/USSSA/

Swim teachers and junior coaches must have a clear understanding of what good technique is for the four competitive strokes and a strong belief in the bene ts of that junior learn to swimmer progressing to the squad level of development.

If the teachers have a strong understanding of stroke development themselves and the Swim School, where they are working, is in tune with progressing the learner through a carefully planned swimming syllabus that prides themselves on producing great swimming technicians you will start to produce great little swimmers.

The real stroke development journey starts when the children get their fine motor skills and can control movement. This usually starts around four years of age.

Swim teachers and junior development coaches must understand that muscle memory in the swimming journey is vital and we must only progress the child when the current skill is mastered and repeated until that simple swimming skill has become automatic.

Continued on next page...

For example, the four your old who has mastered the simple kicking skill progresses it to then on to use in the junior squad program.

Skill building is the basis of all learn to swim and coaching and our swimming syllabus must be mindful of this in both the learn to swim and stroke development journey. The Swim School syllabus must allow for this smooth transition from learn to swim to mini squad (junior squad). At Laurie Lawrence Swim School we do transitions through turtles, seals, dolphins to sharks.

However, in the transitioning period many of the groups can be combined if the coach wants to do it.

As a parent, swim teacher, or junior coach don’t be in a hurry to get your little learner in and out of the swim safety journey and have them finish up with inferior technique because of your impatience.

GOOD

TECHNIQUE TAKES TIME

Take a few minutes to speak to the parents about this and the importance of following the program curriculum if you want your child to be a competent swimmer in all strokes. If you don’t get the parents on side your champion swimmer will wither on the vine.

In-service training for swim teachers and junior coaches where the syllabus is, specifically emphasized on learning proper stroke components, and getting teachers and coaches on the same wave length with same long term goals of “Making Great Little Swimmers”

At these meetings we strive for all our swim teachers, no matter their swimming background, to learn and understand what truly makes up each of the strokes. This empowers swim

teachers with the ability to understand proper teaching progressions, breaking down the basics, and to not only identify incorrect form in swimmers but to also know what corrections to make to ensure proper technique.

WE MUST BUILD SKILLS

Students learning to swim the four competitive strokes within our syllabus progress through different phases, emphasizing the importance of skill building and gradually adding and refining technique to build endurance. This approach allows students to learn correct swimming techniques with a focus on building a strong technique from day one, and not rushing the process. This way we ensure that students develop a lifelong, lifesaving skill with great technique as well as fostering a love of the sport!

In building the skills the teacher must always refer back to basics. That is the prone float. The prone float is where all good swim techniques have their beginnings. In addition to this they must understand and implement the importance of correct repetition to consolidate that all important muscle memory into the selected skill.

Once you have a direction of where your junior squad members are heading the next most important factor comes into play - the junior coach.

INSIST ON PERFECTION

The junior coach must be pedantic insisting on perfection.

They must love racing, love winning, sell the Olympic dream, and inspire the young swimmers to come to practise more often. Once again if you don’t have an age group coach who will inspire, is passionate and pedantic, insists on perfection, your young swimmers will wither on the vine.

The swim school too has a responsibility of encouraging their pupils to nominate for and go into their school swimming events. Success breeds success then you can start talking about PBs and going to some of the sanctioned carnivals.

Choose carefully so you beginner competitor is not put up against the local champions where competing may have a negative effect.

At Laurie Lawrence Swim School this is put up on our “WALL OF FAME” every year and children are encouraged to win their school championships and get onto the Swim School “WALL OF FAME.”

This has become quite prestigious and encourages squad swimming.

REMEMBER

As they progress squad stroke technique still remains the most important feature as they learn swimming rules and understand each stroke and what is required for good technique and racing.

This group now must be well disciplined and encouraged to do all the basics such a streamline, dolphin kicks

underwater stroke counts for all strokes know backstroke finishes and correct medley turns in other words this is squad where they are expected to be one committed team member.

Remember the most important tip of all as a coach and swim teacher “ e standard you walk past is the standard you expect”.

– Laurie Lawrence

TURNING SEMINAR IDEAS INTO ACTION: A SIMPLE, PROVEN METHOD

Attending a seminar can flood you with new ideas. But often, these ideas fade away. Why? Because we don’t act on them.

HERE’S HOW TO CHANGE THAT.

First, realize it’s not the instructor’s fault if nothing happens afterward. They give you the tools. It’s up to you to use them.

Here’s a simple method honed over 30 years of teaching workshops worldwide. After your seminar, pick three specific actions from what you’ve learned. Be precise. Vague goals don’t work.

Next, print out these actions. Make them visible. Post them where you’ll see them every day. This could be on your fridge, beside your computer, or even on your bathroom mirror. The key is constant visibility.

Now, focus on these actions. Start with one. Once you’ve achieved it, replace it with another. Keep this cycle going. Always have three actions in front of you. This keeps your goals clear and manageable.

Remember, the secret is in the doing, not just the planning. Keep it simple. Focus on one action at a time. This way, you’ll turn seminar insights into real-life results.

PS: APPLYING THIS METHOD TO ALL YOUR GOALS

This approach isn’t just for seminar learning. It works for any goal they want to set in your life. Keep it visible. Make it easy to implement.

For example, if you set a goal of going to the gym, have a gym bag with your shoes and clothes that you can grab every morning. Also, put a different one in the back of your car. Possibly put another one at the office. This completely removes the excuse of “I forgot my gym bag.”

I have lost 90 pounds over the last few years. One way I accomplished this was by removing everything from my house that I should not eat. If it’s not there, I can’t be tempted.

Make it easy to win. Set yourself up for success. Take away the excuses so you can focus on what you want to do.

GETTING TO KNOW YOUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS

What educational opportunity that USSSA o ers do you nd the most value and why.
ere are two educational opportunities the USSSA o ers that I nd incredibly valuable. Both the Spring and National conferences are my favorite.

I always come home with a ton of takeaways. While I may not always take away the exact point the speaker is making, their words often inspire me to think of something else, leading to new ideas. During these conferences, I use a specific note-taking system: when I come up with an idea or thought unrelated to the speaker’s topic, I mark it with brackets. Any great ideas that I definitely want to pursue are marked with a star or arrow.

The second opportunity is Book Club, which started in 2020. Due to high demand, a second Book Club was recently launched. The original Book Club has read 37 books in the last four years. We meet monthly to discuss the selected book. We choose a variety of books, covering topics like business, personal development and health. Some of my top picks are “Never Split the Difference”, “Atlas of the Heart,” and “Life is Messy”. However “Outlive” stands out as my favorite book because it has made a significant difference in my life. Funny as that book is not one of the business books on the list!

BUFFY FOLISE CHICAGO SWIM SCHOOL

I TRULY BELIEVE THAT WHILE WE ARE DEEPLY INVESTED IN AND TRAINED TO TEACH SWIMMING LESSONS, WE ARE ALSO, IF NOT MORE SO, IN THE BUSINESS OF CHILD DEVELOPMENT. DON’T GET ME WRONG—THE FUNDAMENTALS OF KNOWING YOUR SWIM PROGRAM ARE ESSENTIAL TO YOUR BUSINESS AND YOUR SERVICE TO CUSTOMERS. HOWEVER, WHO CAN ARGUE THAT IN RECENT YEARS AND MONTHS, WE’VE SEEN AN INCREASING NEED TO SUPPORT OUR INSTRUCTORS WHEN IT COMES TO WORKING WITH OUR YOUNGEST SWIMMERS?

This newly designed Infant/Toddler Course is fabulous. Developed by experts in the field and crafted with the expertise of a learning designer, this course will not disappoint! Here, you will find reminders about common behaviors, practice soft skills to help communicate with parents, use empathy and understanding, and much more. Visuals, videos, gamification, and thoughtful research all come together for an amazing learning opportunity.

The Value of Enrolling Your Team

Enrolling your team in this course offers immense value. By enhancing their skills in child development and communication, your instructors will be better equipped to create a positive and nurturing environment for your little swimmers. This not only improves the overall experience for the children but also builds trust and satisfaction among parents. Additionally, the course’s comprehensive approach ensures that your team stays updated with the latest techniques and strategies, keeping your program at the forefront of child-centered swim education.

Don’t miss out on this one! Investing in your team’s development is investing in the success of your swim program and the well-being of your young learners.
