Whether you’re at the helm of a fishing boat, ferry, tugboat, pilot boat, or patrol boat, ensuring the safety of your crew and passengers requires the installation and maintenance of various safety systems.

Some of these important safety systems include:

FIRE DETECTION SYSTEMS

FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS

CARBON MONOXIDE (CO) ALARMS

FUEL FUME DETECTION SYSTEMS

IMPACT–ABSORBING SEATING

ACTIVE AIR PURIFICATION

SINGLE DETECTOR TO COMPREHENSIVE SETUPS FIRE DETECTION

Given the substantial risk of fire at sea, a Fireboy detection system monitors your vessel around the clock, ensuring early detection of fires for improved suppression capabilities. These systems range from single smoke detectors to comprehensive setups featuring heat and smoke detectors, pull stations, and horn/strobe alerts.

FIRE SUPPRESSION AND GAS DETECTION

CLEAN AGENT FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS FIRE SUPPRESSION

Every vessel should be equipped with an automatic fire suppression system capable of swiftly extinguishing any fire outbreak. Fireboy systems, for instance, activate automatically at 175°F, swiftly dousing flames without the need for manual intervention. Additionally, a pull cable is typically provided for manual activation as a backup measure.

Fire suppression systems are tailored to the size of the area they protect, dictating whether to use a pre-engineered or an engineered system.

A Fireboy pre-engineered system can safeguard spaces of up to 4,000 cu. ft., depending on the specific application and necessary approvals. These systems boast easy installation, often manageable by vessel personnel themselves.

A Fireboy engineered system is designed for larger spaces and requires installation by a licensed fire professional, who also oversees the system’s commissioning.

CARBON MONOXIDE (CO) ALARMS

PREVENTION IS THE BEST DETECTION

Equipping all boats with a Fireboy CO Alarm is essential, as carbon monoxide, an odorless and colorless gas, poses a lethal threat. This gas is a byproduct of burning fossil fuels such as gasoline, propane, and diesel, meaning it can accumulate even if your vessel isn’t actively running.

Every enclosed space onboard, such as cabins, bunks, or salons, should be equipped with a CO alarm. Even areas enclosed by flexible curtains or eisenglass can trap CO, leading to potentially fatal consequences. ABYC mandates their installation on all new recreational boats, with some states enforcing their use on all vessels in their waters.

Regular testing is crucial to ensure proper functionality. Simply pressing the ‘Test’ button and listening for the beep before each voyage ensures your safety.

GASOLINE AND PROPANE FUME DETECTION SYSTEMS

FOR ALL VESSELS

Gasoline and propane vapors are highly explosive and can accumulate in the lower bilge of any vessel. Fireboy fume detection systems are designed to detect these vapors and ventilate the area, pre-empting any potential hazard.
