DISTINGUISHED FACULTY The USP Program offers a rich history of excellence in undergraduate education. RED faculty are experts in a variety of disciplines, including urban studies and planning, economics, real estate, and management. Half of our core faculty are recipients of UC San Diego’s Distinguished Teaching Award.

Unique among other undergraduate majors on campus, RED students work with distinguished practitioners from industry who teach foundational courses, exposing students to real-time challenges and opportunities.

“In our new real estate and development major, students receive pre-professional training in social sciences and in issues relating to real estate: affordable housing, transportation, conservation, taxation, and finance.” —Dean Carol Padden, Division of Social Sciences

DYNAMIC NEW SPACE In fall 2020, the USP Program moves to its new home in the North Torrey Pines Living and Learning Neighborhood. This sustainable, mixed-use community of housing, classrooms, offices, and retail shops features state-of-the-art technology for RED students and faculty. The setting will also host alumni and community partners. Central to our new space is a design studio and adjoining geographic information system (GIS) and visualization lab. This dynamic neighborhood, including restaurants open late into the evening, will be a hub of constant activity.

CAREERS RED graduates pursue a variety of career tracks, including real estate development, finance, law, and investment; architecture and design; urban data analysis; and urban planning. Students also pursue graduate degrees in law, real estate, architecture, and urban planning at top programs, including UC Berkeley; UCLA; Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Harvard, Cornell, and Columbia Universities; University of Southern California; and the University of Pennsylvania. Our strong network of alumni and industry leaders in the field provides students with plenty of networking and mentorship opportunities.
