Working alongside the project architect on the concept design and detailed design stage of an orphanage for 60 youngsters in Boma, Tanzania. Worked on the technical and detailed design stage for the design of a children’s school expansion in Niger, West Africa. KAO LA AMANI CHILDREN’S VILLAGE BOMA, TANZANIA 2019 ARTICLE 25 Kao La Amani is an Irish/Tanzanian charity that runs an orphanage in Boma Ng’ombe, in the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania. The orphanage is home to more than 50 children aged 2-18. Kao La Amani dream of moving the orphanage out of its current rented building, which is cramped and unfit for purpose into brand new purpose-built facilities on a riverside site west of town, designed with the help of architecture charity Article 25.

I had the responsibility of creating the conceptual visuals for the new project, showing various views of the masterplan design. I am also working on the detailed design of the library and reading tower for the children of the orphange.

COLLEGE HAMPATÉ BÂ HIGH SCHOOL NIAMEY, NIGER 2019-2020 ARTICLE 25 Existing School Site

College Amadou Hampaté Bâ (CHB) is an existing college serving middle school aged children up to secondary aged. We have developed a substantial masterplan design that has expanded the school facilities to allow more children to attent. These new classroom blocks will accomodate primary school children, giving education to those who would otherwise not have access to it. CHB has the objectives of engaging and supporting the local community and creating a positive impact on education in Niamey; the school is aiming to improve learning outcomes in Niamey, increase the number of girls in education and assist underprivileged youth in becoming active contributors and leaders within their communities.

WRITERS’ RETREAT JERICHO, OXFORD SEMESTER 2, YEAR 3 2017 OXFORD BROOKES UNIVERSITY The Writers’ Retreat is a project located along the River Thames, Oxfrord, that brings a tradional craft back onto site - the craft I chose was bookbinding. The design of the spaces is influenced by a number of casting experimentations, along with site conditions. The retreat allows for writers to come and be in an environment that allows them to focus on their writing, with a public space also integrated into the building that encourages people to engage in discourse and read books - with a small amphitheatre and book exchange. The bindery itself has bookmakers who hand bind and the finished products of the writers, along with any customer who also wishes to have their work bound.

METAL FOUNDRY JERICHO, OXFORD SEMESTER 1, YEAR 3 2017 OXFORD BROOKES UNIVERSITY

The Metal Foundry was a response to a brief requiring us to restore a heritage aspect of our site, located along Castle Mill Stream, Oxford. I, after researching the site, found that a historic foundry had recently been shut down, and descided to bring a similar concept back, with the added purpose of recycling scrap metals within the area into bespoke ornamental bows for the local narrowboat users. The building itself is a distorted narrowboat, which is composed on site in a way that gives passers by a false, forced perspective, making it look like it is just a normal narrowboat beached along the canal bank.

THE MUSSEL FARM REGENT’S CANAL, LONDON SEMESTER 2, YEAR 2 2016 OXFORD BROOKES UNIVERSITY

The Mussel Farm was a project that looked to create a connection between the private users of the St Pancras Cruising Club, located along Regent’s Canal, London, with the public realm. I decided to create an interactive restaurant whereby customers can harvest their own mussels form a raft culturing station, and fresh vegetables from the terraced gardens designed along the docks.

I thought this would be a great way for the previoulsy secluded Cruising Club to welcome and allow for public discourse and integration.

THE SEED NOOK GRANARY SQUARE, LONDON SEMESTER 1, YEAR 2 2016 OXFORD BROOKES UNIVERSITY THE SEED NOOK EXTERNAL RENDER IN CONTEXT

A short project to bring awareness to the lack of treatment along Regent’s Canal, through public interaction in the form of a seed nook that encourages the public to construct balloon seed dispersal mechanisms that once complete, will be released once a week in the nook. The mechanisms will have a personal message attached to them that will encourage the reader to visit and help with planting the seed they receive along Regent’s Canal.

A PASSAGE OF TIME THROUGH SPACE REGENT’S CANAL, LONDON SEMESTER 1, YEAR 2 2016 OXFORD BROOKES UNIVERSITY

A passage of time through space was a competition held by Oxford Brookes University in collaboration with TRADA. I worked on this competition with a colleague.

We designed a pavilion that overlooked the Cruising Club along Regent’s Canal, which was formerly the home of the coal drops in London. The concept was for the puiblic to be able to explore transition through experience of a space. This was done throught the aesthetics of the pavilion, along withe the materiality.

Final Pavilion Design using various types of timber and distorting the form to emphasise the concept of transitioning from one space to another.

FABRIC FORMWORK CASTING SEMESTER 1, YEAR 3 2017 OXFORD BROOKES UNIVERSITY A project that allowed us to explore the dynamic properties of casting. We created ‘casting frames and then used various fabric types to create abstract forms. I created a total of 3 plaster casts and a concrete one using this method and found that photographing them in high contrast black and white produced some surreal looking landscapes that I used in the development of some of the projects that followed this one, I used Freud’s paintings as inspiration to produce a similar form to his.
