On behalf of the whole team we would like to wish you a pleasant stay. Free Access to The Crowns Wi-Fi is available in the bedrooms and public areas.

The Chilterns is an area of outstanding beauty; if you need any assistance or advice about local attractions or walks, please speak our reception team.

Dinner is served from 5.30pm - 9.30pm daily. If you’d like to reserve a table for dinner please speak to one of the restaurant team.

Alternatively, our sister restaurant, The Wyvern at The Kings Arms Hotel just 200m down the high street, serving a classic British menu between 6.00pm and 9.00pm daily. If you would like to reserve a table there, please speak to our reception team.

A little bit about The Crown Hotel and Amersham The building dates back to the 16th Century; a 45 bedroom Coaching Inn. The Crown Hotel is a traditional old coaching inn which has been sympathetically refurbished and extended into a beautiful hotel in the historic village of Old Amersham.

Before 1200, Amersham was an isolated farming community, however by 1300 it had become prosperous enough to become a Borough. It was also at a crossroad for three significant trade routes due to its proximity to London, so in the 17th Century when more people started travelling through the town, there was an increase in the need for coaching inns. Old Amersham preserves in its streets the same general appearance that it displayed during the 17th and 18th centuries.

However, the origins of the town go back to pre-Saxon times.

Amersham was then called Agmodesham.

In 1200, King John granted the town a market fair, which is still held every year in September when rides and stalls occupy the High Street.

A noteworthy feature of the High Street is its spaciousness which is a characteristic of coaching towns.

During a particular hotel fire in 1935, legend has it that a sulphurcrested cockatoo screeched so loudly it woke all the staff and guests, who went on to survive the fire. Sadly the bird did not, but is now in the Amersham Museum as a tribute to its bravery.

Besides King George III, we have had many other famous visitors. The inaugural meeting of the Amersham Tennis Club took place in 1886 and that of the Amersham Football Club in 1890. Our Elizabethan Suite which overlooks the courtyard was also location to a very famous scene from ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’.

Room 12’s Hand Painted Wall

This original hand painted wall dates back to approximately 155060, surviving a series of serious fires which destroyed much of our original oak framing. It is one of the finest examples to be found today and is registered in a historic record at the British Museum.

The hours of dedication and the ability of the artists who hand painted this forerunner to the modern wallpaper has to be admired.

Sadly, in the past many people felt them to be worthless, and most were destroyed.

We hope that you will appreciate that we have managed to keep this one wall in its original state. Ask reception if the room is available to have a look yourself!

The Wyvern The Wyvern, located in the heart of the beautiful old town of Amersham, is set within our sister property; The Kings Arms Hotel; a characterful, traditional coaching inn dating back to the 1400s.

The restaurant derives its name from the two legged dragon on the logo of the Kings Arms Hotel which takes inspiration from King Henry VII’s coat of arms, as it is reported he stayed at the hotel several times while visiting Chenies Manor.

The Wyvern is a relaxed, home from home dining experience and we pride ourselves on delivering a quality, friendly, and personal style of service.

Directory Accounts Your account is readily available upon request at reception. The following methods of payment are accepted: cash, Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.

Alarm Calls: Please contact reception by dialing ‘100’ who will arrange an alarm call for you.

Assistance (24 hour reception) Reception is staffed 24 hours. From 11pm to 7am the night porter will cover the reception to deal with any enquiries. Should you require any assistance, please dial ‘0’ Bar The bar is located on the ground floor at the front of the hotel. This provides a wide variety of beverages including beers, wines, cocktails and spirits as well as tea and coffee.

Car Parking We have a large car park at the back of the hotel. This can be accessed through a side lane on Wielden Street. Please register your car at reception as we operate and ANPR camera system.

Checkout Check out time is 11.00am. A late check out can be arranged by prior arrangement by contacting our reception team.

Fire Procedures It is imperative that guests read the fire notice on the back of the bedroom door, or near the door and familiarise yourselves with the fire evacuation procedure and fire exits.

Flowers If you wish to send flowers or have them delivered to your room, we would be happy to arrange this for you with our local florist. Please contact reception with your requirements, by dialling ‘0’ on your phone and they will do their best to accommodate your request.

Heating and Cooling The heating in the room may be adjusted by using the thermostat dial on the side of the radiator or by adjusting the temperature on your air-conditioning unit.

All our rooms are airconditioned please adjust this to your preferred temperature. For assistance please speak to reception.

Leisure Facilities The nearers leisure facility is….

Luggage Assistance Please speak to reception for help with your luggage or for luggage storage at anytime. Luggage may be stored at the hotel free of charge, although we have a limited amount of space and so this is offered on a first come first serve basis.

Maintenance Should you find anything not in working condition, please contact the reception who will endeavour to have it rectified as quickly as possible.

Newspapers Please order newspapers by 9.00pm for delivery to your room the next morning.

No Smoking Please be aware that the whole hotel, including all the bedrooms is nonsmoking. You are able to smoke outside in our courtyard. If a guest is found to have smoked in the rooms a minimum charge of £120.00 will be made to cover the cost of cleaning and freshening the room. Each room is fitted with a smoke detector which is very sensitive and will evacuate the whole hotel if triggered.

Activation will cause further charges to the guests account.

Pets Dogs are allowed in our Main Inn rooms and the bar area. Unfortunately, dogs (except guide dogs) are not allowed in the restaurant.

Postage Postage to most destinations can be arranged via reception. Please speak to the team.

Restaurant There are several dining areas throughout the hotel. The food and beverage is operated by Hawkyns, our partner company.

We do have a sister hotel only 6 doors down the road. The Kings Arms Hotel, this is the home of the Wyvern Restaurant. To book a table at the Wyvern, please speak to a member of reception. A copy of the latest Wyvern Menu is attached to the compendium.

Security Please ensure that your bedroom windows and doors are closed when you leave the room. We would like to draw your attention to the Hotel Proprietors Act displayed in the reception area and regret to inform you that the hotel is not liable for nay loss or damage to guests property.

Toiletries A limited supply of complimentary common items are available at reception 24 hours a day. (i.e dental kits, shower caps, ear plugs) Voltage The UK uses 240v supply with three pin plugs. If you require an adaptor, please speak to the reception, who may be able to help, however we do not carry a large supply of these.

Internet The hotel has high speed internet in the bedrooms as well as all public areas. To connect to the WiFi, select the ‘Crown’ Network and fill in the information requested. Once completed, you will be signed into the Wifi.

Room Service Please contact the reception by dialling ‘100’ on your phone, where you will then be able to order room service for hot and cold meals, snacks and drinks.

After finishing you meal, phone reception and they will clear the tray from outside your room.

Please note that room service during the peak service times maybe delayed. We also charge an additional £5.00 tray charge for room service.
