COLLEGE OF NURSING CLINICAL EDUCATION BUILDING

SOLVING THE NURSING WORKFORCE SHORTAGE

A 52,000-square-foot state-of-the-art nursing simulation center and teaching space.

The University of South Carolina will increase their pre-licensure graduates by 80 percent (from 220 to 400 nurses per year) over the next decade. This 52,000-square-foot facility houses a state-ofthe-art simulation center and classroom space to provide clinical education and simulation training for the university’s third- and fourth-year nursing bachelor’s students as well as Master’s Entry to Practice Nursing students.

A true private-public partnership, Lexington Medical Center constructed the building on the hospital system’s West Columbia campus. The College of Nursing will raise additional funds needed to upfit the space with equipment and classroom technology to prepare nurses for today’s complex health care needs.

The new facility serves BSN upper division (juniors and seniors) and Master’s Entry to Practice Nursing (MEPN) students. In addition, clinical immersion for nurse practitioner students are held at this campus.

Pre-nursing freshman and sophomore students, as well as the graduate and PhD nursing programs (excluding graduate immersion) remain on the college’s Columbia campus. Research centers and the Center for Nursing Leadership also remain on the Columbia campus.

Students function within the full scope of practice, engaging in decision-making and interventions that only licensed registered nurses can do in patient care settings.

ACUTE CARE SUITE SIM CENTER

250 K

This replicates a typical hospital room and can be adapted for hospitalized adults or children. The suite holds rooms that can be transitioned from an intensive care unit room.
