Frequently asked questions about: University of South Carolina Department of Nursing RN to BSN Program for Associate Degree and Diploma Registered Nurses Q: What are the requirements for admission? A: Anyone who is considering application to the RN to BSN program is encouraged to meet with a USCB nursing faculty advisor prior to completing an application. You may schedule an appointment by calling 843-208-8124 or contacting the Nursing Department via the USCB nursing webpage (www.USCB.edu). All applicants to the RN to BSN Completion track must first apply for general admission to USCB. To be accepted into the RN to BSN track, you must have an Associate Degree or Diploma in nursing; be currently licensed and employed as an RN in good standing; submit all transcripts for any colleges and/or universities you have attended; have a GPA of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale; and complete the RN to BSN application, which can be accessed online. You will also need to submit a written statement of intent (see RN to BSN application) and two letters of reference than can be downloaded from the internet. International students may be required to take the TOEFL exam. Q: How many credits from my RN program and other schools will transfer and be counted toward my BSN at USCB? A: The evaluation of transfer credits is an individualized process aimed at maximizing the number that transfer. First, we look for your courses that are reasonable equivalents to USCB’s required courses. Then we evaluate whether you earned a “C” or better in those courses and apply them toward your USCB degree. The number of credits that transfer varies considerably but usually ranges from 35 - 50 liberal arts and science credits. In addition, during a later phase of the program, we will award you an additional 35 - 40 credits. These credits are in recognition of your prior learning from the nursing courses you took in your ADN or Diploma program. Q: How long will it take me to complete my studies and earn my BSN? A: This will vary by the number of credits you transferred in and how quickly you complete your general education requirements. The core RN to BSN courses are offered as a block schedule on Wednesdays to allow for ongoing employment. The core courses are scheduled over four semesters. In some instances, with assistance from your advisor, adaptations to this schedule can be arranged.
