Building a small deck platform can be a fun and rewarding DIY project that adds value to your home and enhances your outdoor living space. Here are the steps to follow to build a small deck platform:

Materials you will need:

● Pressure-treated lumber (2x6s and 4x4s)

● Concrete post footings

● Galvanized metal post anchors

● Galvanized screws

● Joist hangers

● Decking boards

● Railing posts and balusters (optional)

● Stain or sealer (optional)

● Tools: circular saw, drill, level, tape measure, string line, post hole digger, shovel, hammer, carpenter's square, and safety gear.

Step 1: Plan and Prepare

● Decide on the size and location of your deck platform Check with your local building department to obtain any necessary permits and to ensure compliance with local building codes and regulations.

● Mark out the perimeter of the deck using string lines and stakes. Measure and mark the locations for the post footings using a tape measure and carpenter's square. Space the footings evenly, typically every 6 to 8 feet apart.

● Dig the post holes to the required depth, typically 24 inches deep for footings that will be anchored in concrete.

● Set the post footings in the holes and fill them with concrete, using a level to ensure they are plumb and level. Allow the concrete to cure for at least 24 hours before proceeding.

Step 2: Install the Posts and Joists

● Attach the post anchors to the top of the post footings using galvanized screws

● Install the 4x4 posts in the post anchors, using a level to ensure they are plumb and level Secure the posts to the anchors with additional screws

● Install the 2x6 joists between the posts, using joist hangers to attach them to the posts Space the joists evenly, typically 16 inches apart, and make sure they are level

● Cut the end of each joist at a 45-degree angle to create a miter joint where they meet at the corners

Step 3: Install the Decking Boards

● Install the decking boards perpendicular to the joists, starting at one end of the deck and working your way to the other end Leave a small gap, typically 1/8 inch, between each board to allow for expansion.

● Secure the boards to the joists using galvanized screws, making sure they are flush with the top of the joists. Cut the last board to fit, leaving a small gap at the end to allow for expansion.

● If desired, install railing posts and balusters around the perimeter of the deck platform.

Step 4: Finishing Touches

● If desired, stain or seal the deck to protect it from the elements and enhance its appearance.

● Install any accessories, such as lighting or seating, to complete your outdoor living space.
