CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT CURRICULUM FOR MASONS (BRICKLAYING & PLASTERING)
ACKNOWLEDGMENT The Pakistan JOBs project is a USAID funded project designed to improve the competitiveness of the Pakistani economy by strengthening systems for workforce development, encourage Pakistani companies to invest in human capital, and improve access to training, jobs, and business opportunities, especially for youth and women. The four components are (1) Industry Sector-Led Technical Training; (2) Employability, Job Placement, and Entrepreneurship for Secondary School and University Graduates; (3) Integrated Work and Learning Program for Less-Educated Youth; and (4) Youth Employability Exchange Systems. The USAID Pakistan JOBS project is working for the skill enhancement of the workforce in Pakistan in several growing economic sectors including agriculture, energy, construction, information technology, call centers, pharmaceuticals, garment manufacturing, carpet making, and fisheries. Preparation of standardized and tested curriculum is one of the major contributions of this project. Construction as a whole is a labor intensive industry. This curriculum was developed to meet the requirements of the construction industry for sufficiently trained construction workers in most of the cities in Pakistan but also employment overseas. Many schools unfortunately cannot provide facilities for training of construction workers. Mostly workers get skills through on-the-job training in an informal environment. The USAID Pakistan JOBS project recognized a need to systematize the training delivery and launched training programs and training curriculums for Bricklayers, Plastering Masons, Electricians, Plumbers and Carpenters. The USAID Pakistan JOBS Project wishes to express its appreciation to individuals and organizations that contributed significantly in the finalization of this curriculum, including the Chairman, and members of the Deans Group team. Special thanks are extended to Engr. Muhammad Islam, Dean Complex Peshawar for his technical input, to Mr. Sher Akbar, ExDG NTB and to Syed Haleem Shah, Former Principal, Advanced TTC, Peshawar, for their technical support to enhance the employability skills of youth in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Imtiaz Ali from ABT Associates and Dr. Nazir Mahmood, Curriculum Consultant for USAID Pakistan JOBS Project were also instrumental in the finalization of the syllabus.
