SENIOR LIVING ( RETIREMENT HOMES ) STUDIO PROJECT : SEMESTER V AIM :

The aim of the design was to design housing for senior citizens ( retirement homes ) with all the requirements such as healthcare facilities, recreational spaces, food and hospitality services and multipurpose facilities which could bestow the interaction between the inmates and common people. The main purpose of the process was to design keeping in mind all the design standards, guidelines for barrier free built environment for people with disabilities and elderly people !

SITE LOCATION : Mysore

The idea of the design was to provide a space for the elderly people which could act as a connection with the nature, hence the design is oriented in such a way that each unit of the project receives natural light and ventilation and also gets the view of the nature.

The residential units are also provided with several areas which act as interactional spaces for the inmates and act as light wells since they are open to sky spaces !

HEALTHCARE UNIT

The recreational facilities and the healthcare unit is designed in closed proximity so that the common areas can be accessed by both the facilities easily.There are certain activities in both the facilities which are interlinked and hence to ease the process of access the design is thoughtfully done such that these spaces can be used whenever required.

The two facilities are connected to each other through the open space which is a therapeutic garden. This space not only opens both the facilities to each other but also enhances the interaction of builtup space and the nature !

The multipurpose hall and other spaces too are based on the design ideology of enhancing the interaction of nature and built spaces !

FORM DEVELOPMENT STAFF QUARTERS

The positon of the staff quarters was provided such that the staff could access all the required spaces without any difficulty.

The connecting passage

The main aim of the design was to provide a peaceful environment to the residents in the quarters. The form of the design was developed keeping the design idea in mind and accordingly was provided with open spaces and landscaping elements which could enhance the interaction of the built space and the nature !

The staff quarters consist of 50 housing units following 2 typologies TYPE 1 : Studio housing accomodating two people whereas TYPE 2 : 1/ 2 BHK houses accomodating families. The TYPE 1 consists of 40 units of 25 - 30 Sqm each whereas the TYPE 2 consists of 10 units of 60 - 90 Sqm each depending on the provision of rooms
