GOLDEN YEARS ON THE GREEN
The Joy of Golf with Friends
Retirement can be a time to slow down, but for many seniors, it’s the perfect opportunity to stay active, connect with friends, and improve their well-being— all on the golf course. Golf has become one of the most popular sports for retirees, offering a balance of relaxation, exercise, and socializing that is hard to find elsewhere. Seniors are trading in their office wear for golf attire, embracing the camaraderie and competition that comes with each round.
One of the greatest perks of golf is that it’s a low-impact sport, making it accessible for people of various physical abilities. Walking the course, swinging a club, and engaging in light exercise can have tremendous health benefits. A day on the green helps with cardiovascular health, improves flexibility, and supports mobility—all of which are essential for seniors looking to maintain their health as they age. Spending a few hours walking around the course is also excellent for weight management and muscle strengthening, especially when golfers forgo the cart and walk their rounds. Being outdoors is another fantastic benefit of golf. Sunlight exposure helps increase vitamin D levels, which strengthens bones and boosts immunity, while fresh air can improve mood and reduce stress. Studies have shown that time outdoors can significantly impact mental well-being, with the bonus of warding off feelings of isolation or loneliness, which can sometimes accompany retirement.
Retirement often marks a transition where people miss the camaraderie and regular social interactions of the workplace.

Golf, however, is an ideal social outlet. Playing with friends allows for hours of casual conversation and friendly competition, helping retired golfers strengthen their bonds and even create new friendships. Many retirees join local golf leagues or clubs to keep up a consistent schedule of games, making it easier to stay connected. Golf also provides an opportunity for mixed generations to play together. Whether it’s with adult children, grandchildren, or old friends, the inclusive nature of the sport means everyone can participate, regardless of skill level. For some, these rounds of golf are a way to create lasting family memories and share a passion for the game across generations.

GOLF TIP

Splash the Sand CONQUER THE BUNKER
To escape a sand trap with confidence, focus on “splashing” the sand about two inches behind the ball. Start by positioning the ball forward in your stance, digging in your feet for a stable base, and opening the clubface. Aim to strike the sand rather than the ball itself; this lifts the ball up and out on a cushion of sand. Keep your swing smooth, avoid decelerating, and follow through for a clean finish. Let the sand wedge do its job, and trust the loft to land the ball softly on the green. With practice, this technique will help you tackle bunkers like a pro.

EMBRACING NATURE:
THE BIOPHILIA TREND IN HOME DESIGN
& DECOR
Biophilia—the concept of bringing nature indoors—is a major trend in home design, transforming living spaces into wellness-focused retreats. This approach blends beauty with function, reconnecting us with nature to create a calming, health-enhancing environment.

Pickleball:
THE SPORT FOR ALL AGES & SKILL LEVELS
Pickleball, a fast-growing sport combining elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, is easy to learn and fun for all ages. Played on a smaller court with a net similar to tennis, it involves paddles and a perforated plastic ball. The game can be played as singles or doubles, making it versatile and social.
The rules are simple: players serve diagonally, and the ball must bounce once on each side before volleys begin. Points are scored only on the serve, and games typically go to 11 points, requiring a 2-point lead to win. A key strategy is controlling the “kitchen,” a seven-foot area near the net, where players aren’t allowed to volley.
Pickleball is low-impact, so it’s gentle on the joints while providing a great cardio workout. It’s popular among retirees and younger players alike for its quick pace and accessible skill level. Local communities are adding pickleball courts, and leagues are forming nationwide.
PICKLEBALL OFFERS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE
Whether you’re looking for fitness, competition, or simply a fun way to spend time with friends, pickleball offers something for everyone. Just grab a paddle, find a court, and get ready to join one of the fastest-growing sports around!
