We decided to map, observe and analyse urban dynamics and people stories inside El-Khalifa, a neighborhood that presented itself as a good example of a neglected area as a part of the Islamic Cairo core.
This journey was made possible with the help of both european and local young architects, designers and sociologists, all sharing their experiences, views and ideas on public spaces planning and design.
Our collaborative strategies were aimed at developing an heritage strategy for the neighbourhood. We are focusing on temporary public spaces and walkable areas, as well as activities and opportune interventions, rather than a permanent, centrally designed, space.
