Case Study: TriMet Transit
Background The Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon, or TriMet, is a public agency that operates mass transit for most of the metropolitan area of Portland, Oregon. In Portland, more people are using public transit, with transit use growing faster than automobile use. TriMet has responded to this increased demand by investing in 55 new Eco-Friendly buses, with plans for 70 more. The Challenge With increasing ridership in their jurisdiction, TriMet knew it was important to prioritize improvements to safety, including reliable lighting at stops and shelters. Choosing an environmentally sensitive option that provides effective illumination was essential to both TriMet, and their ridership.
