THE FOUNDER Urban CEO™ Network was founded January 1st

2019 by Taurea Vision Avant. After so many years of struggling as a business owner, Taurea was able to find success in 2009 and became determined to help other men and women learn about ways to make income and build a stable financial foundation within their homes. After deciding to start her coaching business in 2014, Taurea learned there were many challenges that were keeping people from ultimate success within their business. Many of these people could relate to Taurea because of where they came from. Taurea has always had a connection to the URBAN community. From the music to fashion to even communication, Taurea always had kept her connection. She was brought up in a time where in order to make it from the Urban community, you must learn how to talk, walk and act a certain way. ABOUT Urban CEO™ Academy is our online university where we have guest professors

teach on different topics from starting your business to funding to even codeswitching where we help our CEOs know how to engage in productive conversations. We also have a bartering program where we help teach our CEOs how to be effective in this space. There is a small monthly fee to be a member of only $19 per month.

The Life of an Entrepreneur Mixer is a free monthly networking event at many

locations throughout the open markets. We have about 50 to 75 business owners who attend these events. Our event is GREAT for building relationships which is ESSENTIAL in business. Our goal is to open in 5 markets (STATES) by March 2020.

The Urban CEO™ Summit is our quarterly paid event with 100 men and women

What kind of business structure do you recommend someone set up when they first get started? When someone is just starting out, I recommend that they set up a business structure that will allow them to separate their business assets from their personal assets. The easiest way to accomplish this is to set up a limited liability company (LLC) or corporation (Inc). The best recommendation I can make is to create the structure that will provide asset production at the most cost effective option for beginning entrepreneurs. They should also consult their tax professional or attorney to determine which structure is going to best meet the needs of their business. I encourage aspiring entrepreneurs to think with the end in mind, and work backwards, when they begin to formulate their company.

Why is it important for a business to establish themselves? It is important for a business to establish themselves as its own entity because it creates a credible persona for both the business and the business owner.

Both consumers and lenders want to do business with a reputable company; proper structure ensures not only compliance, but credibility as well. An added bonus to establishing your business as its own entity is the ability to build business credit and create wealth.

When it comes to business credit, is it the same as personal credit? Business credit and personal credit are two different areas. Business credit is credit that is established for a business that solely relies on the business credentials to fund and or obtain lending. True business credit is not tied to the owner in any capacity via a personal guarantee. Establishing business credit affords the business owner the opportunity to scale and grow their company when used correctly.

Should people use their own personal credit when building a business?

My best recommendation is to always structure the foundation of your business properly so that it can stand on its own when it comes to leveraging credit to operate the business. Personal credit is not meant to sustain a business. For example, when WalMart needs to procure a new manufacturing facility, do you think the CEO is personally signing off on the loan documents? Let’s think about this logically for a second, personally, when do you ever have a need to access a $50,000 line of credit? However, in business, this can be used to purchase equipment, invest i0n hiring employees, etc.

How long does it take for someone to establish their business credit? When a business is established properly, you can start to build business credit in as little as 60 days; now, you won’t have access to large unsecured lines of credit in the building, but starting off with small accounts, utilizing them properly, and continuing to build on the foundation will allow a business to be able to purchase just about anything for business use.

What can someone buy with business credit?

Business credit can be used to purchase a wide variety of things such as equipment, office supplies, cell phones, company vehicles, homes, properties, etc. A function of wealth creation is creating corporate trusts (entities owned by companies) that are essentially completely separate from an owner’s personal assets.

What are some of the challenges you see most with people in the Urban Community when it comes to their personal and/or business credit?

In my experience, most of the challenges come from a lack of knowledge around personal financial literacy and even business operations when it comes to leveraging credit. For most of us in the Urban Community we are taught that credit is bad and cash is king. However, it is because of mismanagement of credit and poor personal financial habits that create the ever increasing wealth gap and disparities. Most people are taught that credit is debt and are not taught on how to leverage it to use OPM (other people’s money) to create the businesses and lifestyles they desire.

Why You Must Legally Protect Your Business

Toni Moore is the official Trademark Lawyer for Urban CEO Network and we had a chance to catch up with her and ask important questions about legally protecting your businesses.

What kind of budget do you recommend someone have for setting up and protecting their trademarks?Lawyer budgets are similar to coaching/marketing budgets; there is no hard and fast rule of thumb.

However, the more protection a more requests and desires, the more a person should expect to pay for the services requested.

Should you trademark everything that you do? A business owner should register and protect a brand that identifies their powerful, profitable business service, conference, products, and book series. If the name is not attached to a brand that produces profit, then an Urban CEO should question why they want to brand.

How long does a trademark last?

A trademark lasts for as long as the business owner uses the mark in the international class applied for.

After the 1st approval, an owner must certify its use and pay government fee. After the first certification, the owner must certify every ten years.

When it comes to getting a trademark what is the first mistake you see people make? The No. 1 Mistake people make when it comes to getting a trademark is that they do not fully appreciate the power of naming, claiming and registering their brands. What I know for sure, the person who registers the brand gets the brand.

Why do you recommend NOT using online sites to file your trademark?

Online trademark sites do not counsel and advise registrants about international classes, provide substantive legal descriptions, nor do they provide assistance with monitoring examiner responses or Office Actions.

When should a business owner get their business trademarked?

Business owners do not have to get their brand trademarked. However, they should protect their powerful and profitable brand that identifies their business as the source and resource.

What is the difference between a copyright and a trademark? Copyright is a legal means of protecting an author's work, bloggers blog, choreographer’s moves and photographer’s photos. A copyright provides exclusive publication, distribution, and usage rights for the author. Trademark is a recognizable sign, design, or expression which identifies products or services of a particular source from those of others, although trademarks used to identify services are usually called service marks.

I would say real-bold, action-oriented, and non-conforming because I have been told that my approach is different. Example: I entered a contest in 2019 for founding entrepreneurs of color, and I only had 15 seconds to pitch my idea to Chamillionaire, a rapper and entrepreneur from Houston, Texas. My idea was, "I support brilliant, outstanding, skillful, and successful entrepreneurs of colors by leveraging social media to bring more awareness about their products and services." I had to be real-bold, I had never done anything like that before, 15-seconds to pitch an idea to potentially win 10k. My idea was simple, I wanted to use social media platforms to help others. It wasn't just about me. I wasn't just thinking of how to make money but also how can I potentially bring money to others. I believe its enough money for all of us. I'm action-oriented because I love to solve problems, I don't like to dwell on things too long and if I can't figure it out. I'll write it down and keep it moving. A solution will come to me once my mind is clear. I'm non-conforming to some because I speak up for myself, and I am not easily swayed. I am not afraid to disagree with someone or have someone disagree with me. We all have our opinions and biases, you know. It's all about how you carry yourself, if you carry yourself in a respectful way, even for those who try to disrespect you, they'll think twice about it.

Here's why...It has been my life's journey to live my life WITH purpose and ON purpose and most definitely on MY terms. There's nothing like the feeling of pure FREEDOM to be unapologetically YOU. Why do you believe you were selected as a CEO on the Rise?

I am a CEO of a nonprofit, partner in Successful Women's Conference, and I have a personal blog... In all of these endeavors, my goal is to inspire, empower, and equip women to make positive, life giving choices for themselves and others.

2020 has been historic, what do you feel you have learned the most from this year?

I have learned that it's okay to trust the voice inside of me that propels me to move towards the thing that my heart yearns to do. It's important to recognize self limiting thought patterns and it's equally important to let go of boundaries that others have placed around us through negative words. We must not allow ourselves to defined by others. Our creator has put purpose and passion inside of us. We must allow ourselves to be lead by that and by that alone!

Why do you believe you were selected as a Young Achiever CEO? I believe I have been selected for this award because of my commitment to excellence and professionalism in the workplace, while being a positive role model to my peers. I strive for my company to operate in excellence while providing a high quality beverage experience. I have received so many accomplishments since the age of 8 years old and I am truly grateful for this journey. My community and those around me, consistently see the hard work my family and I put in daily in being the best operating business worldwide. 2020 has been historic, what do you feel you have learned the most from this year?

Year 2020... will always be a year for me to remember. I have learned so much as a business owner in such trying times. This year has truly challenged various practices, policies, and operational procedures within my company. Prior to COVID-19, I owned and operated three inperson locations for customers to enjoy lemonade. Due to COVID-19, I had to pivot my company to strictly on-line! This year has taught me as a leader to think about every aspect of my business! Also, I have learned that there is always another way to get the job done! I am more flexible due to my lessons from 2020! Although so much has happened in this year, my company and I still remain true to our commitment to quench every thirst, to provide quality over quantity, and to inspire families around the world.

I truly believe I fit all of them. Throughout my journey as an entrepreneur, to be successful you need to be unapologetic, real bold, actionoriented, and non-conforming. Being a leader and trendsetter truly requires that you are able to handle any and all obstacles without breaking. As an African American/Black CEO, I have to be unapologetic since some may feel and have expressed that due to the color of my skin, I should not be doing what I am doing. They feel that the color of my skin should exclude me from the right to have a platform that inspires my generation to pursue their dreams. I totally disagree, which is why I continue to work hard everyday to show children in my community that anything is possible when you work hard and believe. Being real-bold, has truly been a daily task for me. I use to deem my light because I did not want the ridicule that was connected with being a leader, however, now I embrace my role as a leader and allow my light to shine as much as I can. I have learned that it is through my light others are provided hope and inspiration to know that anything is possible. Being an entrepreneur is truly an action-oriented process. We are tasked to provide products and services that meet the needs of those in our communities. To be relevant you must continue to revisit your plans and assess the strengths and weaknesses of your company. To be an action-oriented leader you should always desire for your plans to proactive instead of reactive. As a non-conforming young CEO, I am learning the power of my voice, my beliefs, and my actions. This power and influence is important as I desire to be the blueprint for my generation as they navigate through their dreams and goals. Why do you believe you were selected as a Young Achiever CEO? I believe I was selected because I have discovered my purpose at such a young age something I’m told that women twice my age have yet to do. I have taken my challenges in life and instead of letting them define me, I’m using them to help the lives of others. I could have easily taken the knowledge that I acquired and let it rest with me but I have chosen to share it and help others to see the power to eliminate their pain is in their hands.

2020 has been historic, what do you feel you have learned the most from this year?

The one thing that I have learned the most in 2020 is how to preserve. At the beginning of 2020, I was finally able to experience a life without pain. I was eager to gain my independence back and start working again. I didn’t want to work for anyone else so I decided to teach and do eyelash extensions under my Lorre Jai beauty brand. I signed a contract, decorated my studio, advertised, did a soft launch, and was taking clients. A week before my grand opening COVID-19 happened. I literally had to close my business before it truly opened. Because I didn’t have the income to make it thru the pandemic and take care of myself, I let my lease go and closed the door to Lorre Jai studio.

Instead of me saying why me and getting into my feelings, I started looking for other ways to make money. Through my healing journey, I lost a total of 50lbs and so many people kept asking me what I did. So I used those inquiries to create a new business teaching people how to get rid of the chronic pain and lose weight in the process. Not giving up when life was not going as planned has allowed me to find my purpose and help so many women in the process.

When I think about the acronym URBAN it’s like it was created to describe me. My entire life, I’ve always walked to the beat of my own drum and I never shied away from the qualities and characteristics that made me different. I am unapologetic because I don’t really worry about what others think of me. I am who I am and if it's not the person you want then I’m not the person for you! I was created for a purpose and who am I to limit the qualities that were chosen for me just so others can be comfortable around me. I’m grateful for every attribute that I have been blessed with because each one makes me the one woman I am today. Growing up being bold has always had a negative connotation like it was bad to be bold. I would hear how bold I was as if having control of my own thoughts was a bad thing. Some people didn’t care for me because I chose to speak what I was thinking. I have embraced my boldness and separated it from that negative stereotype. Being bold to me is about having the courage to do something different and not conforming to the status quo or the newest fad just because everyone else is doing it. Being bold is actually a superpower. Discovering this superpower has taught me that the only limits that exist are the ones we place on ourselves. Through my journey, I learned that it takes more than courage to accomplish the things I want in life. I had to become action-oriented and surround myself with people that think like me. For every goal I have, I have an action plan without one there would be no JWU holistic healing. I was chosen by my Creator to walk an URBAN life.

2020 has been historic, what do you feel you have learned the most from this year?

Covid19 happened, it has been bad, but I got to spend a lot of my time growing my business and learning more about money and entrepreneurship online. I did two online courses and ran three virtual events of my own. I love 2020 because I got to grow my knowledge beyond school education.

hearing loss. He received a hearing aid at the age of three followed by a cochlear implant at five years of age. Although, Ethan is legally deaf he does not let this stop him. Ethan plays football, basketball and lacrosse, attends

Student Government. He started his apparel company called DEAFinitelyTalented in which he sell products for individuals who are Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing. His apparel includes t-shirts, sweatshirts, onesies, bibs and stickers for people who wear Cochlear Implants or Hearing aids.

He promotes Deaf Awareness and Deaf pride. Ethan’s most rewarding accomplishment was meeting President Barack Obama when he was in first grade. Ethan aspires to attend college and major in Business Administration and eventually become a lawyer and a senator.
