Weekly Newsletter Summer 2019 Week 8 Thank you to all those who raised sponsorship for the Luke Delahunty event this month. You raised a magnificent £1,787 and this amount will be divided between Upton House for new sports equipment and Sports for Schools to support GB athletes. Wrist bands and posters will be handed out shortly. Congratulations to Ruby and Georgie in Form 3 who have been accepted into the Royal Ballet Junior Associates programme. This is an amazing achievement! And congratulations to Romilly in Form 4 who is Berkshire League U10 Girls Football champion! Romilly was presented with her fabulous trophy in assembly this morning. Next week’s forecast is for hot and sunny weather. Please ensure that all children have long-lasting sun cream applied before coming to school and that they have their UHS sun hat and their UHS reusable water bottle (F1 upwards). We are absolutely delighted to let you know that in the annual Holroyd Howe People Awards, our very own Mrs Hanyny was nominated by Nicky James in the Customer Service Champion category. This year there were 700 nominees in 9 different categories and Mrs Hanyny was shortlisted to the top five out of 80 other nominees in her category. Mrs Hanyny attended the Awards Dinner in London last Friday where it was announced she was runner-up. Mrs Hanyny had a wonderful evening with plenty of dancing and received a lovely trophy and certificate. Well done Mrs Hanyny and thank you for all your hard work throughout the year.

To mark the 75th Anniversary of D-Day, we listened to Bob Sullivan on film in Monday’s whole school Assembly, talking about his experiences during World War Two. He was a paratrooper on D-Day and his mission was to capture Pegasus Bridge. He said it changed him from a boy into a man, that it was an achievement just getting there, and that he looks back on his time in the army with pleasure. It was inspiring and moving in equal measure. Form 6 helped to re-enact the parachute drop, using their own creations. You could feel the anticipation in the hall as all three landed safely! Martha (F3) and Ava (F5) then talked to us about their recent trip to France with their great-grandfather Bob, to mark the 75th anniversary. They saw the actual re-enactment of the parachute drop, together with gliders, old jeeps and tanks on display. They also each laid a wreath during the ceremony. We are fortunate to have such a story to share with our Upton Community. Thank you. Miss S Smith
