Weekly Newsletter Summer 2019 Week 1 A warm welcome back to school after the Easter Break. It is quite incredible to find ourselves at the start of the summer term. The children look wonderfully smart in the Upton summer uniform. For those children in Nursery donning their Upton blazers for the first time it was a wonderful moment this week to see them walking so proudly through the school gate. We are delighted to welcome Miss Holly Drewett as our temporary Head of Art for this term, Miss Caitlin McArthur as our Gap Student and Mrs Victoria Davies as our new Playground Assistant replacing Mrs Chawla. Imogen Pritchard, our Gap Student for the last two terms, is well on her way around the world and is currently in Fiji! In the Autumn Term we will be hosting two Gap Students, Molly Broad and Oliver Wigzell. The children thoroughly enjoy the presence of the Gap Students and hearing about their school days and time at University. Mrs Seldon-Walsh joins us now full time as Upton’s Head of Sport and Mrs Lisa Collings is a wonderful permanent addition to Nursery team. Whilst writing, I would like to inform you that our much-loved chef Nicky will be off school for a number of weeks due to illness. She is currently in hospital and we are all thinking of her and wishing her a speedy recovery. In her absence, Paul Beeney is our Chef in residence and already popular with the children and staff. This term we warmly invite you to meet our new Head of English for September, Miss Fiona Solomon, who is currently the Head of English at Parkside Independent school in Cobham. I know they are very sorry to lose her. Mrs Charlotte Morris, the new MFL teacher for September, will also be in school this term to meet parents and children. She will be teaching French, Spanish and Latin. We will notify you of the date to meet both as soon as possible. We have a very busy term ahead with a key focus on the curriculum and core subjects, combined with many amazing events to look forward to, all outlined in the Upton calendar which you will have received on Tuesday; trips, residentials, Sports Day, Prize Day, welcome meetings for moving up and our end of year production Aladdin. After Wednesday’s auditions, the Form 6 girls find out today which parts they will be performing; so exciting! We look forward to the whole school photograph next week and I do hope you can join us for the Junior, Middle and Senior Choirs Assembly next Friday 10th May at 8.50am.
