Weekly Newsletter Spring 2020 Week 2 The Transition classes enjoyed a trip to Combermere Barracks yesterday to further explore their topic of 'People who help us'. They visited the Welsh Guards to find out more about how they help the community and learnt lots about the roles of soldiers and guards. They explored the museum, working in teams to complete a treasure hunt before meeting some of the horses who help too ... horses who really like mints! A big thumbs up from Transition!
Miss Shaw & Mrs Broad Charity Update Some of you may remember that over the past two years we have been sponsoring the education of a child overseas. Due to a change in circumstances, Daysi and her family have moved to a different region in Ecuador and we are no longer able to support her. Plan International have now arranged for our education fund to be transferred to Dayhana, a 2 year old girl in Guairá, Paraguay. This area has an estimated 13,604 children living in poverty. Dayhana lives with her family in a brick house with a corrugated asbestos sheet roof and cement floor. Her home has running water, but no bathroom and the nearest healthcare facility is 45 minutes away. We will be raising further monies later in the year to put into Dayhana’s education fund and we hope to be able to support her until she leaves school. Mrs Lesley Webb
The SUPADROPS are raising money to give to the Australian Bushfire Emergency Fund being run by WWF. They are concerned that the fires have been caused by global warming, and as they are still burning after several months, are adding even further to global warming. The world needs those fires put out now! The SUPADROPS have designed a collection box which is situated by the School Office, or you may see some SUPAs shaking it before school next week! Please put in any loose change you can spare—thank you.
As winter continues, we would like to request that you do not sit in your parked car before drop-off in the morning with the engine running. As we are sure you are all aware, pollution from vehicles can be extremely detrimental to health, and particularly so for children, and the elderly. We wish to avoid any build-up of pollution in the environs of the school and respect the air quality of the residents living in the local streets too. Rather than sit in your car, why not park a little further away and keep your children warm with a brisk walk to school, if you have a few minutes to spare? We ask you to be mindful of our neighbours in the surrounding streets by always parking with consideration and not staying any longer than you have to, in order to free parking spaces for them to use as they go about their daily life. Please remember that, in most of the roads around the school, you are required to pay to park in residents’ parking bays. Thank you.
Allergy awareness Day: Orange Mufti Day in aid of The Anaphylaxis Campaign: On Tuesday 21st January we will be having a mufti day to raise money for The Anaphylaxis Campaign; a charity which supports, helps and guides those affected by severe allergies. They have already provided invaluable support to two of our pupils. Please wear home clothes with at least one item of clothing that is orange - this could just be orange laces or a hair bow. To show support of this great charity we would be grateful if you could please bring in a donation of at least £1. Upton House School
