Weekly Newsletter Spring 2019 Week 2 I am delighted to welcome our new swimming coach Mr Tim Delaney to Upton. Mr Delaney will join Sarah Beattie and Laura Crossland working with the children from Form 1 upwards. Sarah, Tim and Laura are very used to working together and we are excited about our swimming here at Upton. We look forward to the annual Prep swim gala at St John’s Beaumont on March 21st. If you have a daughter in Form 5 and you are considering a swimming scholarship, please talk to us. This is of course something we can help with and advise on. We currently ask parents to provide a packed lunch when the children are going on an excursion day. We do realise that this can cause frustration on what are already busy mornings. Going forwards therefore, Upton will provide each child with a packed lunch on excursion day. We will ask parents to send each child with their Upton water bottle as we do not wish to be using single use plastic water bottles for trips, but you will not need to send anything else. The lunches will offer variety and a healthy selection, and the children will be asked to choose their preferred filling a few days before. We cannot of course provide personalised lunches, different for each child. All current health and safety food guidelines adhered to continually here at Upton will be applied to the packed lunches, alongside allergy concerns. We look forward to the Senior schools information evening next Tuesday evening for Form 4 and 5 parents. Mrs Newcombe and I will discuss the process for applying to Senior schools and the expectations of the schools in terms of their assessments. We will discuss how we prepare the children for their assessments and interviews. We are very much looking forward to the Upton Art Exhibition on March 1 st. Mrs Dearsley has a wonderful event planned, celebrating the beautiful artwork the children create here at Upton. The PTA will serve teas and coffees until 5pm after which the bar will be open leading into the Musical Soirée for the Prep girls starting at 6pm. We have so many instrumental performances and singing performances to enjoy. I am delighted to tell you that Harriett Muncaster, author of the Isadora Moon books will be in school on March 14th. She was invited by the children in Form 2 and will spend the day with Pre-Prep reading and writing stories. How exciting! Mrs Rhian Thornton
