Weekly Newsletter Autumn 2018 Week 3 It was lovely to welcome all our new parents for coffee this week and to spend a little time with them. I hope it was a good opportunity for them to meet many members of our staff team. It was also wonderful to see so many parents, lots of them new, at the PTA meeting the same evening. Thank you Mr and Mrs Maskell -Smith and the PTA for an excellent and well attended AGM. The Pre-Prep School Council were full of ideas this week. They had notepads, sharp pencils and agendas. Their ideas included Upton slippers for the classroom, an Upton senior school and keeping everybody until they go to university, painting more pictures for Mrs Thornton’s office, continual background music around the school throughout the day and more adventure books in the library. Well done Pre-Prep School Council! We had a fantastic start to our sporting fixtures this term with our hockey matches against St George’s Windsor. Form 3 won all three of their games, Form 4 won 7-2, Form 5 lost 3 and won 1, and Form 6 won 8-2. A big thank you to Dom Chapman, Michelin Star chef at The Beehive Pub Restaurant in White Waltham for cooking for some of our parents last night as part of an Upton House fundraiser auctioned at the May Ball. The food was exquisite and included Roast Cornish Cod and Blackberry Sherry Trifle. Dom has offered to “adopt” Upton House as part of the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts programme and we look forward to developing this fantastic opportunity soon. We are very much looking forward to seeing you at Upton Rocks tomorrow. Bring a picnic and your own drink and remember that you can pay on the door. Mrs Rhian Thornton
Wellbeing tip of the week:
Dream Dare Do (Ben Fogle)
We are pleased to advise you of the following: Luckley House Open Morning Saturday 29th September at 9am The Marist Open Evening Thursday 27th September at 5.30pm
Our first Upton Wellbeing Council members have been busy making 'Blurt' monster boxes to go into their classrooms. We have been thinking about our emotions and recognising that we all have times when we don't feel okay. Our new monster boxes are here to eat those worries and encourage us to think of ways to think positively when faced with challenges and ask for help when we need it. Mrs Anna Hewitt
PTA News Nearly new uniform is readily available to purchase form the PTA by request. From this term we are trialling a new system whereby it can be requested and nearly new uniform sales will no longer be held. The process is as follows: STEP 1: Please send an email to pta@uptonhouse.org.uk stating the items you require including sizes. STEP 2: You will receive an email letting you know if we have your requirements in stock and the cost. You will then need to reconfirm you are happy to proceed. STEP 3: Your items will available to collect on the last Friday of the month in term time at either drop-off or pick-up. Donating items - if you would like to donate any uniform to the nearly new stock, all future proceeds from the sale will go to the PTA only. Please hand any donated items into the School Office.
