Weekly Newsletter Autumn 2018 Week 12 Reverend Peter Matthew started our week with a marvellous assembly focused on teamwork, asking two pupils to eat Smarties with extremely long (1m long) wooden spoons. Form 4 ended our week with a simple but powerful assembly focused around kindness, delivered beautifully. Between these special assembly moments we have had the most wonderful week at Upton, vibrant and bustling. Form 3 played netball so well at Eton End (won 3-1 and 2-1), as did Forms 5 and 6 at St George’s Windsor Castle (F6 lost 8-10, F5 won 8-4) and Form 4 at Bishopsgate today (draw 5-5 and a loss 6 -1). We have had two busy and energetic parents’ evenings this week and we do hope you found them informative. It is always difficult to ensure exact timings, but I hope you did not wait too long. We are always seeking to make parents’ evening as efficient as possible without compromising on the quality of the interactions with staff. Feedback is always welcome. Form 6 spent the day at the Houses of Parliament today. Gabby in Form 5 emailed a picture of her Theresa May cupcake to the Prime Minister this week with a message that she hoped it would make her smile as her Dad had said she’d had a tough week. Theresa May replied and even gave a personal mention during an interview on BBC Radio 5 Live today. True Upton initiative and creativity inspired by Parliament Week. Well done Gabby and thank you Miss Sarah Smith for leading a thought-provoking Parliament club. The next three weeks will be busy and exciting here at Upton as we move into our Christmas preparations and festivities. We will be putting up the Upton Christmas trees next Friday in readiness for the wonderful PTA Family Festive Party on Saturday 1st December. I very much look forward to seeing you all there. Rhian Thornton We have noticed that a few of our pupils (Transition upwards) are regularly arriving late for school. Whilst we do appreciate that there are occasionally times when lateness is unavoidable, it is very disruptive to the classroom if pupils regularly arrive after the register has been taken and it is unnerving for them to be late so often. Time to settle in and prepare for the day ahead has a calming and useful effect on their well-being. Children should arrive via Beaumont Gate which opens at 8.25am, hang up their hat and coat and make their way to their classroom (independently Form 1 upwards) ready for the register to be taken at 8.45am.

The next PTA event is the Christmas Party, Saturday 1st December, 3-6pm Tickets are £12.50 per child, adults are free, all children must be accompanied by an adult Please DO NOT delay in buying tickets, to secure your child(ren) a place for the Magical Santa Experience! There is face painting for boys and girls as well as a fantastic childrens’ entertainer and a disco for all the children to enjoy. Tickets are available via our website https://www.uptonhouse.org.uk/parents/pta-events Each class has a hamper at the back of the classroom to be filled and decorated for the raffle at the end of the event so please do fill it with some wonderful luxury items. Raffle tickets were sent home with pupils earlier this week—please return the stubs and money to the School Office. More tickets are available if required. The PTA are really looking forward to seeing you all there in your fun Christmas Jumpers and for a candle-lit Christmas carol sing-a-long at the end. Food and drink will be available to purchase as well as real Christmas Trees for sale. See you all then and many thanks for your support.
