Bernard Bronner
To anyone just starting out in this industry, first and foremost, believe in your own voice, talent, gifts and purpose. Acting isn’t about being perfect or fitting into someone else’s idea of who you should be. It’s about truth, vulnerability, and connection. Never underestimate the power of bringing your authentic self into every role. Train your craft…. Whether it’s through classes or just observing life around you— keep learning. Acting is a lifelong journey of growth. Be a student, study and stay curious. Rejection is apart of the process. It’s not a reflection of your worth or your talent. Auditions will come and go, some roles will go to someone else, but that doesn’t mean your time won’t come. Stay resilient. Embrace the ‘NO’s’. Your job is to show up, give your all, and work for that ‘YES’ because that will be your life-chang-

BB: What advice would give to young actors in the industry today?
Many of our favorite beauty products contain some of the most exotic, high-performing ingredients sourced from all over the world. From nourishing hair care to radiant skincare, vibrant cosmetics, and luxurious body products— beauty is more than a routine; it’s a lifestyle.
But as we navigate the current climate of heightened tariffs and an escalating trade war, we’re reminded that no industry is immune. These changes especially impact sectors that depend on global supply chains and imported goods—agriculture, tech, food, automotive—and yes, beauty. Think of it like the endless, multicolored sprawl of Legoland: everything is connected.
As tariffs increase, so will the cost of goods. And that means higher prices on everything from lipsticks and
hyaluronic acid serums to hair care products, bundles, and wigs. The ripple effects will reach your favorite hairstylists, makeup artists, and beauty brands—particularly those that are independently owned.
So, the next time you notice a price increase, extend some grace. These professionals are making necessary adjustments to sustain their businesses while still providing top-tier products and services.
Consider revisiting your budget to continue indulging in your beauty rituals. In doing so, you’re not only investing in yourself—you’re also helping keep Black-owned and small beauty brands in business during uncertain economic times.

TYLER PERRY’S DIVORCED SISTAS
BET+
What happens when the fairytale ends? When the vows are broken, the ring is off, and the silence of starting over sets in? In Divorced Sistas, Tyler Perry invites us to sit at the table with four Black women who are doing just that—navigating the messy, brave, and often beautiful journey of life after divorce. Set against the backdrop of sisterhood, soul-searching, and second chances, Divorced Sistas dives deep into the personal lives of women who are more than their broken marriages. Each character brings her own baggage—and her own brilliance—to the screen. Former Destiny’s Child member, Letoya Luckett stars as “Rasheda”, who portrays a First Lady and serves as a pillar of faith and elegance, alongside her husband. Divorced Sistas is bold, vulnerable, and emotionally rich. It gives space to the overlooked and unspoken—the pain of divorce, the pressure to “move on,” and the quiet courage it takes to become yourself again.

THE DAILY SHOW
In the ever-evolving world of late-night television, The Daily Show has long been a space where news, satire, and culture collide. With Emmynominated writer, stand-up comedian, actor, and NAACP award-winner, Josh Johnson stepping into the spotlight as guest host, the iconic desk gets a fresh voice—one that’s clever, culturally aware, and deeply rooted in lived Black experience. Late-night TV has long needed a Black male voice that’s both socially aware and emotionally intelligent—not just funny, but meaningful. Johnson fills that gap beautifully. His humor doesn’t ignore pain; it processes it. In a world overflowing with hot takes, he offers something better: perspective. Whether he’s joking about inflation or unpacking voter suppression, there’s a throughline of purpose in his comedy. This is something we need now more than ever.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Paramount +
In a world that often feels divided by zip code, culture, and conversation, The Neighborhood dares to do something bold: bring people together laughing. In its sixth season, this comedy continues to strike a delicate balance between humor and heart.
At first glance, the show sounds like a classic sitcom setup: a white Midwestern family moves into a predominantly Black neighborhood in Pasadena, disrupting the dynamics of the tight-knit community. Cedric the Entertainer (as Calvin Butler) leads with commanding warmth and comedic brilliance, grounding the show in wisdom and wit. Tichina Arnold (as Tina Butler) is, as always, a scene-stealer—effortlessly delivering one-liners while serving as the emotional heartbeat of the Butler household. The Neighborhood is more than just a comedy, it’s a mirror and a mediator. It shows what’s possible when we listen, laugh, and lean into discomfort with grace. In doing so, it’s become one of the most relevant sitcoms on network

F WRITING HER WAY
AUTHOR ROBIN ALLEN BLENDS ROMANCE, SUSPENSE, AND EMOTIONAL DEPTH TO CREATE STORIES WHERE BLACK WOMEN LEAD, LOVE, AND RISE.
BY UTAMA BELL
FOR MORE THAN TWENTY-FIVE YEARS, Atlanta-based author Robin Allen has been consistently building a literary legacy centered on women—especially Black women—who carry the weight of the world and still rise with grace, purpose, and heart. With over 40 bylines in local and national publications including Hope, Flourish, Atlanta Woman, Today’s Black Woman, and Black Elegance, Allen is no stranger to the power of storytelling. As a freelance writer and editor, she has always used her pen to spotlight real issues, human complexity, and the beauty found in truth.
But her passion has always been fiction. Allen is a multi-published author of women’s fiction and romantic suspense novels such as It’s Complicated, Breeze, The Promise, The Best Thing Yet, and If I Were Your Woman Her foray into Young Adult fiction, The Starters: Unexpected, revealed her range, but her newest work may be her most ambitious yet.
It Starts W ith a Promise is the first novel in Allen’s Ripple Effect Trilogy, and it marks the beginning of an emotionally layered, genre-bending journey that’s as thrilling as it is deeply human. Set in the sultry heart of New Orleans, the story follows Gillian DuBois, a freelance photographer suddenly thrust into the role of guardian to her young niece after a tragic loss. As Gillian grieves and redefines her life, she’s drawn to Romare Ellington, a charismatic oil executive—only to discover that his company may be connected to her sister’s death. “A promise can change your path,” Allen says, “but it can also reveal who you really are.”
I wanted to read something entertaining, informative, and reflective of our times, so I wrote it.
Allen’s stories are never just about romance. They reflect the real-life dilemmas women face every day—love, grief, family, justice. Her characters live in the same world we do: complex, flawed, brilliant. “I wanted to read something entertaining, informative, and reflective of our times,” she says. “So I wrote it.”
A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Journalism and Communications, Allen grew up reading everything from Stephen King to Zora Neale Hurston, always searching for reflections of herself in the pages. “We have Black mayors, Black professionals in every field—why shouldn’t our stories reflect that too?”
Also a playwright (The Bridal Shower, produced by Clark Atlanta University) and a communications professional, Allen blends creativity and strategy in everything she touches. Her mission is clear: to write for women who feel everything, carry everything, and still dare to dream.
It’s a Natural Transition, Not a Taboo Conversation
By Dr. Johnecia L. Mason
FOR GENERATIONS, MENOPAUSE has been a whispered conversation—discussed in hushed tones, if at all. But it’s time we shed the shame and speak truthfully about this important and natural stage of life that every woman, if she lives long enough, will experience.
What Is Menopause?
Menopause marks the end of a woman’s reproductive years, officially defined as occurring 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period, not due to pregnancy, illness, or other medical causes.
The average age of menopause in the U.S. is 51, though the transition—known as perimenopause—can begin in the mid-40s or earlier. According to the North American Menopause Society, over 1.3 million women in the U.S. enter menopause each year, making it a common yet under-discussed reality.
Recognizing the Symptoms
Menopause is not just about the end of monthly cycles. It’s a hormonal shift—primarily a drop in estrogen and progesterone—that can trigger a range of physical and emotional symptoms:
• Hot flashes
• Sleep disturbances
• Mood changes
• Brain fog and memory lapses
• Weight gain and slower metabolism
• Vaginal dryness and discomfort during intimacy
• Joint pain and fatigue
The Emotional Shift Is Real
The emotional toll of menopause is often underestimated. As estrogen levels fall, so can serotonin, a brain chemical tied to mood. This can cause irritability, sadness, or increased anxiety.
The Mayo Clinic notes that menopause-related hormonal changes can heighten the risk of depression, particularly in women who have experienced it previously. This phase may also coincide with other major life events—like career changes, caring for aging parents, or children leaving home—which can compound the sense of emotional overwhelm.
Breaking the Silence
Menopause is not a weakness—and it's certainly not something to be ashamed of. The silence surrounding it can cause more harm than the symptoms themselves.
• A 2022 survey by Bonafide found that 92% of women felt unprepared for menopause.
• More than 70% never discussed it with their mother or close female relatives.
• Nearly 50% said their healthcare provider didn’t initiate conversations about menopause. That silence ends here.
What You Can Do
Empowering yourself starts with education and self-advocacy.
• Track your symptoms.
• Stay active.
• Build a support network.
• Don’t dismiss your needs.
• Speak with your health care provider about remedies to help manage your varying symptoms.
Final Thoughts
Menopause is a powerful transition—not a taboo. Let’s change the narrative from shame to strength, from silence to sisterhood. Together, we can normalize this conversation, support each other, and step into this season with confidence and clarity.
Rather than seeing it as a loss, we can choose to see it as a beginning—a time of reinvention, renewal, and unapologetic self-care. Menopause isn’t the end—it’s a bold and beautiful beginning. You are not broken. You are becoming!

These are the voices shaping fashion’s future—through conviction, creativity, and the courage to be themselves.

HER LEGACY LIVES ON
Harriet Tubman - Abolitionist, humanitarian and Freedom Fighter
By Annita Stokes Thomas
HHARRIET TUBMAN IS BEST KNOWN for her daring missions to free enslaved people via the Underground Railroad, but her work didn’t end there. In her later years, Tubman settled in Cayuga County, NY, with her family. She continued to fight for justice, dedicating her life to advocating for civil rights, women’s suffrage, and providing care for those in need. Tubman’s great, great, great grand-niece Deanna Stanford Walz shared, “Harriet was courageous to put her life in danger to not only be a spy in the armed forces but also to go back to Maryland to bring family and friends up north and into Canada; that’s so courageous to care so much about your people to put your own life in danger to set them free and take care of them.”
During the Civil War, Tubman was a nurse, cook, and spy for the Union Army. She played a critical role in the Combahee River Raid in 1863, guiding Union forces to liberate over 700 enslaved people in South Carolina. She is the first woman in U.S. history to lead an armed military operation.
Later, Tubman settled in Auburn, New York, working as an activist and humanitarian. She established the Harriet Tubman Home for the Aged, assisting elderly and formerly enslaved people. Tubman raised funds to maintain the home and personally cared for the residents.
Tubman also became an advocate for women’s suffrage, aligning with leaders like Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Her speeches inspired many, as she linked the struggles of Black Americans with the broader fight for gender equality.
Harriet Tubman passed away on March 10, 1913, at the age of around 91, leaving behind an enduring legacy of courage and compassion.

A TASTE OF FLAVOR
Chef ‘LJ’ Joseph Makes the Best Best Brunch Thru Flavor, Faith, and the Heart of a Kitchen
By Jonell Whitt
WWHEN LINO ‘LJ’ JOSEPH OPENED his first Caribbean cuisine restaurant “SPICE HOUSE” in 2017, it was more than a business move—it was a leap of faith. Armed with a handful of beloved recipes and a dream, he stepped into the kitchen as Executive Chef, bringing soulful Caribbean flavor to the heart of Atlanta. But once the crowd poured in, he quickly realized it takes more than talent to feed the masses. It takes teamwork, preparation, and a commitment to excellence.
Brunch has since taken Atlanta by storm, becoming more than a meal—it’s a cultural movement. LJ credits Chef V Harper and spots like Toast on Lenox and Breakfast at Barney’s for popularizing the trend in the Black community. Today, LJ’s new venture, *Taste of Flavor Brunch Bar* in Alpharetta, brings an elevated twist to Southern brunch, blending Caribbean soul with modern culinary artistry.
As a seasoned restaurateur who’s opened nine restaurants (with only one closed due to an unfortunate fire), LJ emphasizes that being a great chef isn’t just about cooking. It’s about managing teams, understanding cost control, and leading by example. He values dependability, leadership, and patience in his chefs—more than just culinary talent.
“You don’t win championships alone,” LJ says. “You need a team.” He believes the host and dishwasher are just as critical as the head chef, and that customer service—especially in Blackowned restaurants—should be exceptional. That focus on the full dining experience is what makes his restaurants stand out.
At Taste of Flavor, guests enjoy dishes like jumbo prawns over grit cakes with lobster sauce, short rib hash, and his signature lamb chops and mac & cheese. The ambiance? Impeccable. The service? Warm and attentive. LJ’s commitment to quality and consistency has made him a standout chef and business owner.
From learning on the job to mastering preparation, inventory, and staff dynamics, LJ’s journey is a masterclass in perseverance and growth. His advice to aspiring chefs? Stay humble, keep learning, and never be afraid to roll up your sleeves.
Because for LJ Joseph, being a chef isn’t just about food—it’s about flavor, faith, and building a legacy one plate at a time.

INVESTING IN GUYANA’S FILM INDUSTRY
Rae Wiltshire: A Playwright and Screenwriter’s Dreams and Aspirations
By Tash Van Doimen
BUILDING GUYANA’S CREATIVE INDUSTRY one step at a time, Georgetown Film Festival’s founder, Rae Wiltshire, will soon be honing his skills with theoretical insights in Film and Television.
BKnown for his play, Don’t Ask Me Why, winner of the Guyana Prize for Literature 2025, Guyanese playwright and screenwriter, Wiltshire recently secured a Chevening Scholarship among the 2025 list of cohorts. In an effort to further his craft, Wiltshire is slated to pursue a MA in Film and Television: Research and Production, at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom.
When asked about his choice of program, he was keen to describe it as an opportunity to align his ambition to build Guyana’s creative industries and provide greater representation to the region’s underrepresented voices in film on the global stage.
Wiltshire’s filmmaking and literary practice have been characterized by courageous storytelling and cultural activism. His plays and short films have been featured at top-tier film festivals like Locarno and BFI.
His latest feature, Eating Papaw on the Seashore, was included in the Five Films for Freedom series of the British Film Council and featured at British embassies worldwide, initiating debates on identity, sexuality, and belonging.
In 2022, Wiltshire was awarded a grant by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport of Guyana, to train potential filmmakers. During this period, he increased his annual film making workshop from 18 to 50 participants. Through the Guyana Film Festival, he has also established collaborations with organisations like the Inter-American Development Bank and the Canadian High Commission.
He further conducted workshops with young adults and screened films linking Guyana to the broader Caribbean region and the diaspora.
For him, admission to Chevening comes at a pivotal moment in Guyana’s creative sector. As the country gains international
attention and exposure from its booming oil industry, Wiltshire believes advancing his skill set and widening his networks will afford him the opportunity to further contribute to Guyana’s film industry.
His graduation plans include developing the Film Festival workshop into an accredited Guyanese film school, accessing resources through private and diaspora partnerships, and equipping future generations of creatives with the technical and creative potential to compete on a worldwide level.
“Chevening is more than a scholarship,” said Wiltshire. “It’s a chance to come home with knowledge, networks, and a newfound sense of direction for the Guyanese film industry.”
The Chevening award highlights the nation’s rising potential as a creative centre. His success has implications beyond the individual; it marks an industry-wide move toward the region’s voices creating their own narratives on the global stage.

THE LANGUAGE OF FLAVOR
Chef Serigne Mbaye Weaves West Africa and New Orleans into a Culinary Conversation
By Annita Stokes Thomas
CCCHEF SERIGNE MBAYE ISN’T JUST serving food—he’s telling a story. At Dakar NOLA, his acclaimed fine-dining restaurant in New Orleans, each dish is part of a rich dialogue between his Senegalese roots and the deep culinary traditions of the American South.
“Food is a language,” says Mbaye. “And I’m constantly in conversation with the ingredients, techniques, and legacies of both West Africa and New Orleans.”
From Dakar to the Crescent City, Mbaye’s culinary journey is as layered as his cooking. Raised in Senegal, he honed his skills in the kitchens of New Orleans’ Commander’s Palace and Atelier Crenn. Each experience shaped his vision—one that fuses soul, artistry, and cultural memory.
“At Commander’s, I learned the rhythm and generosity of Southern cooking. Atelier Crenn taught me that food is a means of communication, almost poetic. But Senegal—that’s my foundation,” he says. “It’s where I learned the respect of ingredients, the power of storytelling through food. All of these experiences shaped not just how I cook, but why I cook”
Mbaye’s mission goes far beyond technique to a legacy reclaimed. Through Dakar NOLA, he shines a light on the often-overlooked legacy of enslaved West Africans who shaped what we now call Creole cuisine. “So many Southern dishes have African roots, but the names and stories behind them were erased,” Mbaye says. “This is about reclaiming that narrative, honoring that resilience, and elevating a legacy that’s been hidden in plain sight.”
That reverence is woven into every plate—and every moment. Diners at Dakar are greeted with Ataya, a traditional Senegalese tea ceremony that marks the beginning of a meal. “It’s a ritual of welcome. In Dakar, even just walking down the street, someone might offer you Ataya. Serving it at the start of the meal is my way of saying, ‘You are seen. You are welcome.’ That first sip sets the tone. It opens the door not just to the meal, but to the experience, to the story we’re about to tell through food. Honoring that tradition in a city that also values warmth and connection makes me feel proud and deeply rooted in both cultures.”
Jeremy Tauriac
When guests dine with us, I want them to feel connected—to a story, to a culture, maybe even to a part of themselves they didn’t know was missing.
— Chef Serigne Mbaye
Mbaye resists the idea of a single “I’ve made it” moment. Instead, his journey as a chef feels like an unfolding path— deepened by reflection and community. “Cooking has always been how I express myself. But when I gave the commencement speech at NOCHI [New Orleans Culinary & Hospitality Institute], it hit me—how far I’d come and how much more there is to build.” His philosophy extends to educating diners. “If someone leaves the table curious, inspired, or with a deeper appreciation for where food comes from, then I’ve done my job. Food can nourish, yes—but it can also awaken.”
Mbaye’s connection to food is deeply personal. His favorite comfort dish is Thieboudienne, Senegal’s national dish made of marinated fish, stewed vegetables, and tomato rice. “When I smell it cooking, I’m immediately transported back to my childhood in Dakar.” He shares it was his aunt’s specialty and it’s like he’s back in her kitchen. “It brings me comfort, not just for how it tastes, but what it represents: family, memory, home,” states Mbaye.
Outside of Dakar NOLA, Mbaye finds inspiration in the city he now calls home. He’s a fan of Nina Compton’s heartfelt cooking
and the island soul food from Queen Trini Lisa. “There’s so much thought and heart in their food—it lingers with you.”
When dining you quickly realize just like his food, Dakar NOLA has a soundtrack: Youssou N’Dour, Orchestra Baobab, Ismaël Lô—voices that span oceans and generations. “The music tells a story — one that moves between continents, generations, and emotions. Music curates sound the same way we plate a dish: with intention, reverence, and soul. Music sets the tone for the experience — grounding you in the present while echoing the past.—just like our menu.” States Mbaye. Walking into the restaurant feels like stepping into West Africa - along with songs, striking carved masks, colorful-bold-patterned fabrics, and handcrafted chairs brings culture to life and sets the tone for an authentic experience.
For Chef Serigne Mbaye, Dakar NOLA is more than a restaurant. It’s a stage, a classroom, a homecoming. And, there’s a seat at the table for everyone. Through food, he’s writing a new narrative—rooted in history, shaped by experience, and expressed with every dish served.
R FINDING HIS VOICE
An Everyday PK Finding His Voice Amidst the Noise: Rudy Currence’s Unapologetic Return With “God Don’t Cancel Me”
By Audrey L. Aaron
RUDY CURRENCE IS NO STRANGER to the spotlight.
The Grammy and Dove Award-winning producer, twotime Billboard #1 recording artist, and 2024 Stellar Award nominee has carved out a lane that fuses soul, R&B, and gospel into an unforgettable musical experience. But behind the accolades and applause lies the heart of a man who calls himself an “everyday PK”—a preacher’s kid navigating the complex journey of faith, identity, and artistry in a world full of expectations.
Now, with the release of his new single, “God Don’t Cancel Me”, Rudy is making a bold, vulnerable statement— one that speaks not only to his personal struggles but to anyone who’s ever wrestled with being misunderstood, underestimated, delayed or judged. The track serves as the lead single from his forthcoming album, Everyday PK—a project that Rudy hopes will break down barriers between
sacred and secular, from the sanctuary to the streets.
“The truth is that most PKs have to live under expectations that they never asked for and never agreed to live up to.,” Rudy says. “It’s like we grow up under a microscope, sometimes. We’re expected to be perfect, to carry a mantle we didn’t choose. And now, in a social media world, those voices can get even louder. Everybody’s watching. Everybody’s talking.”
Rudy knows this tension all too well. His early career as an R&B artist sparked controversy in some church circles, yet he never let go of the faith that shaped him.
“When I say that I’m an everyday PK, I mean that I’m everyday people just like you. I just want to live a balanced, well-rounded life. My faith doesn’t limit me. Instead, it gives me the courage to navigate through the ups, the downs
Some of the darkest times of my life have come from my disappointments in the music industry but music has also given me some of the most beautiful memories to last a lifetime.
and explore all the possibilities in between.” Rudy admits a lot of people had a lot to say when he first decided to become an R&B artist. Rudy admits a lot of people had a lot to say when he chose R&B music. “At first, even my parents were shocked to hear that I wanted to sing R&B music. I still notice how some folks don’t agree with me performing secular songs, but I find inspiration in all musical genres, not just R&B or Gospel.” His education proves this. With a Music degree from Furman University, Rudy explains that true musicians love all musicfrom jazz to gospel, country to classical. “As a believer, I carry God with me everywhere I go and invite Him in everything I do. Honestly, I think people want to see more authenticity from “the church” and I’m grateful that I have a very unique opportunity to shine my light in unconventional spaces and still come home to the traditional walls of a church.”
“People are hurting. The world is heavy. My music shows them that God is love and He’s with us in every aspect of our lives – in order for them to listen, the message has to be relatable and relevant.”
That honesty pulses through every line of “God Don’t Cancel Me.” It’s not just a song — it’s a spiritual anthem, a prayer for grace in a culture that’s quick to criticize and slow to understand. “I’ve had to wrestle with God,” Rudy admits. “Why this path? Why now? I’m not immune. I’m not 100% unbothered by what people think and say, but at the end of the day, I have to be true to God and to myself. I’m learning to trust the process no matter what. Life is about change, but sometimes the seasons that bring the most pain and pressure, eventually produce the greatest diamonds. We’ve all experienced struggles.”
“Some of the darkest times of my life have come from my disappointments in the music industry but music has also given me some of the most beautiful memories to last a lifetime. I’ve been looked over, taken advantage of, and at times left to figure out how to rebuild my career from the ground up – but I never gave up. That’s what “God Don’t Cancel Me” is all about. It’s my way of saying, no matter where you are in life, God is there and as long as that remains true, you will be alright.”
And the message is clearly resonating. Since its release, “God Don’t Cancel Me”—the bold, faith-fueled anthem Rudy wrote and produced himself—has quickly climbed into the Top 10 on the Billboard Gospel Airplay Charts, continuing his streak of chart-topping success. The single, which fearlessly addresses today’s hyper-critical cancel culture through a lens of grace and authenticity, has already reached millions of online streams worldwide and is receiving heavy rotation on national TV outlets including BET Gospel, Music Choice, and
Revolt’s Sunday morning gospel block.
“God Don’t Cancel Me” serves as the lead single from Rudy’s highly anticipated album, Everyday PK, a hybrid project that mirrors his real life—half R&B/Soul, half Inspirational/ Gospel. Much like Rudy himself, the album is unapologetically layered, offering a soundtrack for those who live with faith while navigating the complexities of the real world. It’s not about perfection, it’s about balance, honesty, and embracing every emotion along the journey. Rudy’s hope is that Everyday PK will resonate with those who have ever felt caught between two worlds, showing them that faith doesn’t require forfeiting authenticity.
His music continues to break barriers and reach new audiences, with over 20 million streams across platforms and a rapidly growing fanbase. His YouTube channel alone boasts more than 75,000 subscribers, nearly 12 million views and growing, while his vibrant presence on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok continues to attract fans both new and seasoned — drawn to his authentic voice and message of hope, faith, and resilience. Rudy’s digital footprint now exceeds 160,000 engaged followers across social media, reflecting the global impact of his raw, relatable storytelling.
This new chapter comes on the heels of a remarkable run. Rudy’s last full-length project, Stained Glass Windows, is a Stellar Award nominated project earning over 15 million global streams and produced two #1 Billboard Singles, “I Belong Here” and “No Greater Love” featuring Chrisette Michele. Rudy is the personification of the term “Everyday PK”. As an independent artist, he is a musical trail blazer, having worked with the Late Great Quincy Jones, produced on Lecrae’s Grammy-winning album Gravity, and written the Grammy-nominated song “Sunday AM” for Karen Clark Sheard, From his humble beginnings in Rock Hill, SC to this year, being honored with a resolution by the State of South Carolina recognizing him as a “Native Son”, and receiving a key to the city of Greenville SC, Rudy is an embodiment of true perseverance and grace. He continues to tour nationally and abroad, leaving audiences around the world enamored with his stage presence and an interactive musical experience second to none.
As “God Don’t Cancel Me” climbs the Billboard Charts, Rudy is hopeful that the message reaches beyond the playlists and truly connects with his fans. Because at the end of the day, Rudy Currence may be a hitmaker, a performer, a preacher’s kid, but more than anything, he’s just an ordinary man with an extraordinary calling – an everyday PK.
And he’s only just getting started.
DREW SIDORA
Living Her Best Year of Evolution
Drew Sidora isn’t merely a familiar name—she’s someone many of us feel we’ve grown up alongside. From her breakout on Disney’s That’s So Raven to shining under Anne Fletcher’s direction in Step Up, and bringing a vibrant, elevated version of herself to Mara Brock Akil’s The Game, she’s shown remarkable range. And of course, who could forget her comedic turn in Marlon Wayans’ cult classic White Chicks? Now, for four consecutive seasons, Drew has been lighting up screens on Bravo’s flagship reality series, The Real Housewives of Atlanta. Her journey through the world of entertainment has been one of constant reinvention.

ut hers is not a reinvention born from pressure — it’s born from purpose.
“I’ve been in this business since I was eight years old,” Drew reflects. “Acting has always been second nature. But now, I’m in this incredible season where I’m balancing motherhood, music, reality TV, and stepping into my power behind the camera.”
A proud mother and native of Chicago, Drew Sidora fully embraces the multifaceted nature of her calling: actress, singer, reality star, writer, producer — and most importantly, a woman of unwavering faith. Each title, she says, fills her in a different way. “Scripted work feeds my creativity. Reality TV allows me to share my truth. And music has always been the heartbeat of who I am.”
While fans may be captivated by the vulnerability she shows on Housewives, behind the scenes Drew has been quietly building a creative empire. She now has producer credits under her belt and is working alongside legendary creators like Bentley Kyle Evans, starring opposite Columbus Short in Mind Your Business(Bounce TV), where she plays Aaliyah — a character whose life eerily mirrors her own.
“Bentley wrote my character Aaliyah as a Chicago girl going through a divorce — just like me,” Drew shares. “And when the character was diagnosed with endometriosis, I couldn’t believe it. I had been diagnosed with adenomyosis after having my children. They didn’t even know that when they wrote the script. It was God aligning everything.”
For Drew, storytelling is sacred. Whether she’s portraying deep emotional truths in films like the Lifetime Original movie “Vicious Murder”, Footage Films “Adopted”, The Pastor, and even when baring her soul on reality television, her choices are rooted in intentionality and grace. “Reality TV gave me a platform to be vulnerable. People don’t always understand that vulnerability is a gift. It opened the door for people to hear my music, understand my story, and see the woman behind the work.”
This August, Drew takes on an exciting new challenge in Run, directed by Chris Stokes with her Footage Films family. The film — set to premiere in New York, Los Angeles, and Atlanta — marks another major milestone in her already diverse career.
But with so many roles — both on and off camera — Drew has developed a perspective few entertainers are willing to admit that she doesn’t believe in a balanced lifestyle.
“I don’t think balance exists. I believe in being fully present,” she explains. “When I’m on set, I give 100%. When I’m with my kids, I’m 100% there. That’s how I’ve been able to grow — little by little — without burning out.”
And while the work ethic is relentless, Drew is just as committed to what she calls her “power duo”: self-care and prayer.
“Before I do anything, I go to God,” she says. “That’s where my strength comes from. I don’t make moves without consulting Him first, because that’s how people get misaligned. And I’ve been there. So now, I start with prayer, every time.”
She pairs her spiritual discipline with intentional moments of self-care: 30-minute walks, solo lunches, full-body massages, reading in silence, and time away from the noise. “I recharge by quieting the world and centering myself. That’s when I can pour back into my kids, my craft, and my calling.”
It’s no surprise then that Drew surrounds herself with a strong village. Raised in a loving two-parent household in Chicago — what she jokingly calls “the real-life Cosby show” — Drew is now raising her own “little Cosby family” with the same values. Her mother, sisters, cousins, and chosen family have held her up through divorce, motherhood, and the demands of the industry.
I’VE BEEN IN THIS BUSINESS SINCE I WAS EIGHT YEARS OLD. ACTING HAS ALWAYS BEEN SECOND NATURE. BUT NOW, I’M IN THIS INCREDIBLE SEASON WHERE I’M BALANCING MOTHERHOOD, MUSIC, REALITY TV, AND STEPPING INTO MY POWER BEHIND THE CAMERA.
“I couldn’t do any of this without them,” she says with gratitude. “They fly out to help with the kids. They show up when I’m filming. They remind me I don’t have to do it all alone.”
When asked how she would title her life, Drew doesn’t hesitate: “The Girl, You Didn’t Know You Knew.” Starting her career so young working for the Disney Network, the talented writer and creator Mara. Brock Akil’s creation of “The Game” and currently on the Real Housewives of Atlanta Drew Sidora has woven herself into pop culture through multiple generations — sometimes quietly, sometimes boldly — but always authentically.
“This is my year of evolution,” she declares. “And I’m not done. I’m directing next. I’m launching more music. I’m telling more stories. And I’m doing it all on my terms.”
If Drew Sidora is the girl, you didn’t know you knew — now you do. And with her faith as her foundation and her evolution as her compass, the best of Drew Sidora is yet to come.

WORDS BY JONELL WHITT
Southern brunch culture is evolving—and it’s getting a spicy, Caribbean twist that’s waking up taste buds and turning heads. Across Georgia, bold chefs are trading in basic bacon and pancakes for braised short ribs, jerkseasoned crab legs, and island-style frittatas. The sizzle isn’t just coming from the skillets—it’s coming from the buzz at every table.
Picture this: A platter lands at your table, steam rising, aromas drifting through the air like an invitation. Conversations pause. Eyes widen. Even nearby diners lean in, captivated by the vibrant colors, the fragrant blend of spices, and the undeniable energy that only Caribbean brunch can deliver. It’s no longer just about eating—it’s about experiencing.
At places like Taste the Flavor Brunch Bar, just outside Atlanta, guests are opting for dishes so hearty and flavor-packed, dinner becomes optional. Think garlic-herb jerk crab legs that fall apart with a gentle touch, or short ribs slowbraised in island spices and served with rich, creamy grits. Meanwhile, spots like Marietta’s top-rated French toast café let guests build their own brunch with strawberry-drenched stacks and custom frittatas that rival any chef’s special.
Is brunch becoming the new dinner? In the South, the answer is a delicious, resounding yes. Welcome to a new kind of brunch—where Caribbean soul meets Southern comfort, and every plate is fit for royalty.

from Jamaica, Lesley developed a deep connection with Barbados after frequently traveling there to escape the cold winters of the UK. Now living in the region, she continues to explore other islands, discovering the beauty of places like Grenada, Trinidad, and St. Lucia.
Lancewell House attracts a diverse range of guests, from families and milestone birthday groups to retreatgoers and cricket teams. It offers more than just a place to stay—it’s an experience. Lesley provides stylish, fully equipped accommodations, concierge services, wellness options like yoga and personal training, and event planning support for intimate gatherings.
Her advice to aspiring female entrepreneurs is simple: “Believe in your
vision but be adaptable. Building a hospitality business takes passion, resilience, and a commitment to excellence. Surround yourself with the right people, do your research, and always focus on creating value for your guests. Most importantly, don’t be afraid to take the leap—every great business starts with a bold decision.”

BY JONELL WHITT
“MUSIC IS LIFE. MUSIC IS FASHION. MUSIC IS CULTURE.” — Sean Garrett.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest songwriters of his generation, Garrett isn’t just the pen behind the hits — he’s the pulse of what’s next in sound, style, and cultural influence.
If you’ve been scrolling your timeline and wondering why Sean Garrett (The Pen)is everywhere — yes, my friend, it’s by design. The legendary hitmaker songwriter —with 18 Billboard Hot 100 number ones under his belt — isn’t just resting on his legacy.
“I’m just working, my dear,” he says with that humble edge that’s become his signature. That work includes the new single “Girlfriend” featuring Plies and Hunxho, which is already catching fire.Often referred to as one of the greatest songwriters of our generation, Sean is now stepping fully into the spotlight — not just with music, but fashion, culture, and influence. “Music is life. Music is fashion. Music is culture,” he says. “You gotta show up and show out.”While his résumé includes names like Beyoncé, Usher, and Nicki Minaj, it’s his quiet confidence that sets him apart.
Billboard ranked him #5 of all time for most Hot 100 #1s — behind icons like Paul McCartney and Mariah Carey. “I’m very thankful and humble,” he says. “But I also know the work I put in. Pound for pound, I’m one of the greatest.”And he’s not done. Between executiveproducing projects like Summer Walker’s album and mentoring rising talent, Garrett is building bridges for the next generation. “I love helping artists achieve their goals.
That’s what it’s all about.”When asked about Atlanta, he beams. “It’s not just music —it’s family, it’s real. We do lunch when we say we’re gonna do lunch. It’s different out here.”

TERISA GRIFFIN A Sultry Soul & Jazz Singer
BY JONELL WHITT
MUSIC
THERE’S SOMETHING UNDENIABLY powerful about an artist who doesn’t just perform—but pours their very soul into every note. Terisa Griffin is that kind of artist. With a voice that is velvet and fire, and a presence that is both regal and raw, she has carved out her place in the world of soul and jazz not just through talent, but through an unshakable purpose. That deep-rooted connection to music is what makes her performances unforgettable and her music timeless.
Griffin’s journey has been defined by her ability to merge passion with business savvy. Early sacrifices taught her that success in music isn’t just about talent—it’s about knowing your worth. As an independent artist, she has turned her artistry into a sustainable career by honoring both her gift and her financial independence. “I can’t sign away my passion and experience true happiness,” she says, and it’s this understanding that keeps her grounded and thriving.
Balancing love and ambition is no easy feat, but Terisa does it with grace—crediting her husband and their shared values as her anchor. Together, they pour into the next generation, mentoring youth through her nonprofit, Better Love Yourself, which empowers young people to pursue higher education and self-love.
She’s not just a singer; she’s a storyteller, a mentor, and a motivator. Inspired by the late Bernie Mac’s philosophy to “run your own race,” Terisa lives authentically, refusing to compare her journey to anyone else’s. “I’m only running against Terisa,” she proudly declares.
Even as she confronts the challenges of today’s music industry—like streaming revenue gaps and tech-based exploitation—Terisa remains resilient. Her message to aspiring entrepreneurs? Turn your passion into your profession and create wealth from joy.
What makes her impeccable? “I don’t give up on me,” she states without hesitation. That relentless drive, paired with an ability to connect deeply with her audience, is what sets her apart. Her fans don’t just listen—they feel her.
In every city, on every stage, and through every note— Terisa Griffin is the embodiment of soul, strength, and self-worth. She doesn’t just sing—she heals, inspires, and reminds us that authenticity is the truest form of success.

AUGUST-SEPTEMBER
A TRIBUTE TO MALCOLM JAMAL WARNER
A LIFE OF GRACE, ART, AND AUTHENTICITY (1970–2025)
BY DR. THELÁ THATCH
ON JULY 20, 2025, THE WORLD LOST a luminous talent and cherished presence when Malcolm Jamal Warner tragically drowned during a family vacation in Costa Rica at just 54 years old. The actor, musician, poet, and father, known to millions as Theo Huxtable, departed far too soon, leaving behind an immeasurable legacy of performance, heart, and humanity.
From his breakout role as Theo on The Cosby Show, Warner became a household name, portraying a bright, thoughtful, empathetic Black teenager whose glow defined a generation. For many of us, it’s almost impossible not to call him “Theo” and not feel like he was our little brother, the one who made us laugh, challenged us to think, and made us believe in the power of family.
Yet Warner’s career was anything but one-dimensional. He evolved into a versatile force, anchoring Malcolm & Eddie in the ’90s, bringing grounded gravitas to Reed Between the Lines, Sons of Anarchy, Suits, 911, and, most recently, Fox’s The Resident, where he infused Dr. AJ Austin with quiet wisdom and integrity for five seasons. Beyond acting, Warner was an accomplished director, stepping behind the camera for episodes of The Cosby Show, All That, Kenan & Kel, and more.
His artistry extended into music and poetry, earning a Grammy in 2015 for his soulful performance on Robert Glasper’s “Jesus Children of America,” and a spoken-word Grammy nod in 2022. Through his Not All Hood podcast, launched in mid 2024, Warner fearlessly explored Black American identity, lending his voice to thoughtful dialogue and cultural reflection.
But beyond his accolades, it was his soul that left an indelible mark. Co-stars from Angela Bassett to Morris Chestnut and Raven Symoné expressed universal sorrow and respect, each remembering Warner as both a gifted artist and a gentle spirit. Bill Cosby, who cast him as Theo, called Warner akin to a son—an emotional echo of their shared bond.
Warner’s life journey—from a poised child actor to a soulful patriarch—was guided by grace, humility, and authenticity. To fans of every generation, he was a friend, mentor, and brother figure. He represented not just hope, but the enduring power of storytelling grounded in empathy.
As his family mourns, the global community mourns with them, reflecting on the richness of his contributions, each episode, track, poem, and kindness a testament to his spirit.
